Nice! I was VERY careful when I opened it that one time too. I wasn't going to punch it until I was ready to play it which unfortunately never happened. I'm glad it is going to a great home though.

With a global game layed out on the kitchen table, all these pieces were in their trays, in a box, with the top off, sitting on a chair. In the middle of last night I awoke to a crash. I have 3 cats. By this afternoon (after I get through picking up) I think I will have 3 new sets of fur lined slippers.
I've only ever played the original back in the day. Fun game, but it's so hard to get people together to play. Shame, fun weekend game to play with friends.
To clarify: Artillery, destroyers, victory cities and individual research was introduced by A&A Revised. Some of that stuff was even earlier introduced by Xeno Games The World at War expansion for the MB version. Still a very involved and history version that is often overlooked.

So I just bought the 1941 introductory edition (the one simpler for new players) and I am very happy with it. Can you tell me please, If I want a bigger and more complete experience of AaA should I get this anniversary edition or the 1942 game? What are the differences?
The larger and more complete version is the Anniversary Edition, which takes the basic concepts of the 1941 (and 1942) edition and greatly expands them in many ways. Many players consider it the best Axis & Allies experience there is. It's highly recommended. The combined Europe 1940 and Pacific 1940 games - two different games that combine into one giant game referred to as Axis & Allies Global - is even bigger and more complex, however, it requires buying two different board games and it takes up a LOT of space and time. A large gaming space is needed. The Anniversary Edition is still arguably the better choice over that.
How do I identify if it’s this anniversary version or the re release a&a anniversary version? Is anything different on the box, like the 1940/41/42 or something? Thanks a lot for the input.
I have the re released Anniversary Edition of Axis and Allies and agree it the best A&A game of the lot, the only thing I wished they did, was more units unique to Italy, but other than that, perfect game!!

If you like playing WWII strategy game, the most historical accurate version of the game is from Historical Board Game, the Global War series. (Personal opinion) You can choose to buy a 1936-1945 version or a 1939 version. They are even better than Axis&Allies Global 1940. If you have tons of money, a lot of spare time and with an excellent gaming community, go for them!
So I have a question, I played the Revised edition, loved it! Especially the unique national advantages. Like the US had super carriers. Does the new versions have these rules as well?
There also had been a very well done Computer game Version by HASBRO done at the end of the Ninetieth with the preword of the creator of AXIS&ALLIES. I loved that one untll it had been no more compatible with my PC. Naturally I have the board game also. :) Every time I like to put an ax to the Axis as it was said in this long time forgotten musical QUOTE UNQUOTE.
I got this on Black Friday at a local gaming store for $50 and I have never played axis and allies (it was the original anniversary not the reprint) I’m a huge twilight imperium fan and this was recommended to me, looking forward to trying it out

I tried to host a game of this (well, the newer edition) -- I made copies of the rules available to my friends. Only two people showed up -- one of them swore that he knew the game (in spite of my telling him that it was different from the original, and the other one actually owned a couple of Axis and Allies games, but never played it. NO ONE READ THE RULES. OK, I knew them well enough to teach, but the guy who claimed he understood the rules didn't want to hear them. I made sure that they were on opposite sides, and we started the game -- unfortunately, both players played so entirely timidly, not wanting to make more than one or two attacks per turn, not wanting to actually play to win. The guy who played Germany and Italy decides to pull back his troops in Russia back to Berlin (in spite of me asking him repeatedly if he was sure). The guy who played the Allies never tried to bring more troops into Europe (or Asia) anywhere, didn't want to attack hardly at all. The only interesting thing that happened is that the guy playing Germany and Italy decides on his first turn to roll for research and got Improved factory production. After a few turns, I made an executive decision to call the game a draw on the basis that if neither Germany nor the Allies were going to go after one another, that the game would take forever, and I didn't have forever to play it. I put it away and haven't tried to play the game again.
That is awesome that u got this version to man, i have this one since it came out, but its a tat to big to really play on the table size we have, but still easier then the global one that really just takes up the compleet table indeed.So far i have only 15 versions of the game including 2 second editions (sealed) of the global one as i play just the first edition when i get the change. Oh and got ww1 sealed to just why not hehe. The most played version i have is the MB one for me the very first one i got. So u say they reprinted this version? Ok now im curiouse if i missed that one i have not been following the series for a while now. Guess will have to check and see if i own the rerelease yet or need to hunt it down. Gotta catch em al, right :). Still find it a shame that with the version changing the money dissapeared out of the box, and the newer the versiin the less components u seem to get as in storing ur items after u punched and unbagged em, dissapearing factory sculpts etc, guess a way of saving money for them. Still great games all on there own. Although the cheapest version they brought out is kind of a let down, it does not do the line proud. To few components to even set uo the starting board, i find that a no go for any gameboard so very very disapointing indeed.

I bought the reprinted version for cheap : love it. So glad they reprinted it, especially that I sold my first copy cuz i though 400 $ for a game was too much, now hou can afford ot for normal price

Hey Al. We went over a good amount of the rules - but stopped short of making this a "gameplay" video. Our attic set-up doesn't make a play-through very easy. And Eric plans on getting his hands on the re-release to play, while he wipes this un-punched copy with a silk cloth from time to time.

However, if you're not 100% certain if this style of game is for you, get 1941 instead. It's very affordable, a great introduction, and if it turns out you like it so much you want to get the Anniversary edition, you can combined the games and use all the pieces from 1941 with Anniversary. Happy gaming!"

It took me a solid 5 minutes to get it of the shelf. It's one of the biggest game boxes I've ever seen.

The original has a "50" in the lower right under the Avalon Hill logo, the re-release does not.

Almost Dec 2019 now, seeing it for $60-$100, looks like you can snag another copy to punch and play.
I have a lot of time do to quarantine, so break out A&A
