Why the Soviet Coup Failed

  • In August of 1991, Soviet Party hardliners, members of the military, and KGB agents attempted a secret coup to overthrow the sitting Russian government in order to prevent the collapse of the Soviet Union. Due to several blunders and shots of vodka the coup planners failed miserably and were arrested. This final failure of communism in Russia helped the already snowballing effect of of the dissolution of the USSR into the Russian Federation we see today.

Decent and interesting story. It takes time to develop a style for public consumption that is both entertaining and provocative. It is with this in mind that for most of the episode you spoke with a monotone that lead me to think that you were reading an ingredient list. A personal perspective with your own sense of humor interlaced within the information given will allow for others to find what you offer in the basement. If that makes sense.

Possible videos. Your thoughts on the performance and usage of the Bradley in Ukraine (if i recall that's your area of expertise M-2).
The way drone proliferation is impacting warfare.
Historical events that directly lead to current world events. For perspective my Joes always used to ask me: why are we here? why are we doing this? something along the lines of answering those questions. While im retired I know a few people who are still in and they use videos like yous the main channel to explain things to the young Soldiers and Marines.

Despite of all good things came with dessolution of the USSR and the capitalism take over, there are great number of people left hanging in the air (I'd say a full generation born in 60s). Their profession, knowledge , even their money are not needed now. Not everyone is ready to live in time of so called "Primitive accumulation of capital" (A huge number of lifes was lost due to hunger, criminal activities and such) , and the most who survided got a huge PTSD, left with hate against the idea of capitlism. So now, you got a new leader, for whom the biggest geopolitic tragedy is the end of the USSR, and 15-30% of the nation is not happy about "money talks" life principle... what's gonna happend?

In retrospect if the soviets succeeded the Russian people would've avoided the dark ages of the 90s and yeltsin's incompetence. could've also avoided turning into a billionaire oligarchy had they followed China's slower paced economic liberalization

I doubt it very seriously. Had the Soviets regained power, I think you would have seen an extremely brutal crackdown that might have even put Stalin to shame.
And I say this because the Russian people, in addition to the outlying republics and countries, we're getting a little taste of freedom and self-determination. And they weren't likely to willingly let go of that.
Either way, you still almost certainly would have had the collapse of the Soviet Union within 10 to 15 years. And I think that that happened we wouldn't have had them go out with a whimper. Instead, it might very well have been a very big bang that Drew other countries into it.
In all honesty, the way it happened was probably the best possible scenario given the setup that could have happened for the Russian people, let alone the rest of the world
