Venice is one of the most popular cities in the world, and even those who have never been to Italy will probably remember the names of San Marco, Rialto and such recognizable views of canals, bridges, gondoliers and exquisite palazzos. But for most tourists coming to the archipelago for the first time, the city does not begin with San Marco. The steps of Santa Lucia Station or the completely modern Piazzale Roma, where the bus hub connecting Venice with the mainland is located - these are the very places from where 95% of travelers take their first steps in the city on the water. You can get from here to San Marco by vaporetto water bus or by walking through a tangle of narrow streets and atmospheric campos leading to the most recognizable square
Venice. And this walk is not only a way to pleasantly save on the most expensive public transport in the world, but also an opportunity to see a completely different Venice, as the locals see it, having learned the secrets and mysteries of the intricate streets, ancient houses and rare churches.
Our walk will start from Santa Lucia train station and, passing through the districts of Santa Croce, San Polo and San Marco, will end in close proximity to the city's central square, where we will begin our second part of a longer route through the center of Venice.
