I had the same problem. Took off the top part of the steering wheel, had a look, all wiring looked okay. So next thing is the clockspring, most probably needs replacing, but before I did all that, I tried this as seen on the Nissan forums. Turn the ignition to the on position but DON'T start the car. The airbag light with come on, and immediately it starts to flash, turn the ignition all the way off as quick as you can, count to five or time to five seconds using a watch, then repeat, turn ignition to on, see the airbag light come on, immediately it starts to flash, switched off ignition, time to five seconds, do the same again, switch off, time to five seconds, turn on ignition but this time the airbag light will come on, and then flash slowly, don't switch the ignition off. This means the car is in diagnostic mode. Leave the ignition on, don't start it. Difference of opinion on how long to leave the ignition on, I left it ten minutes, switched the ignition off, then started the car, and the airbag light never came on again. This may well save you pulling the car apart and spending money. Three times the ignition should be switched on and off with the above procedure. Good luck.

I've been getting similar codes on my autel but at the same time no airbag light included the front airbaga sensors and the tensioner from left passenger side driver airbag no light in the dashboard! How would you identify that including the u1000 code. How can be known if the airbag is blown and fixed.
I enjoyed this entire video ! Many details covered and explaining every move ! This is obviously a very dangerous DIY repair and most people wouldn’t even be watching this unless they knew their way with a wrench. However I would advise if you do not know how to isolate the connections and what each wire means then I would just take it to a reputable repair shop unless you are rich you can just take it to Nissan dealership 😆

I had to google because I wasn't sure what a 2nd stage airbag was as I heard you mention it. Thought it was something to do with an initial inflation then activation, turns out they can be activated in stages depending on the impact. Speed, etc

1. Turn the key from off to on. 2. Watch the airbag light closely. It will stay on for a few secs. and then as soon as it blinks off (the start of the flashing), turn the key off instantly. 3. Count to 5 (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi . . . .) 4. Repeat steps 1-3 two more times until you have done the cycle three times. 5. Now turn the key on and watch the light. It will start blinking in a different, slower manner. This is diagnostic mode. You can watch this for a little while, no hurry. 6. Now turn the key off again, Count to 5 like in step 3 again, and turn back on. If the procedure worked, the airbag light will not be flashing. Faster and simpler than vid
🤔 What? Are you saying that going into diagnostic mode fixes a problem with the airbag? If there is an issue, nothing will fix it other than actually repair the culprit... Is this case was a poor connection somewhere around the plugs I have disturbed, causing a high resistance... Your procedure would not fix that... But I get your comment! I have a diagnostic airbag code 12 on my Nissan qashqai 2 (2012). Meaning low voltage. I can’t reset it via the switch on and off procedure. Any ideas what to do ? Thanks. I have changed the battery but that hasn’t worked

Hello mate, bread vid. I have a question, I got same B1049 code and garage saying I have to replace module just like that! Module alone costs me £500 plus 1.5hr labour... Is it possible to just say one must change airbag module by getting b1049 code on Nissan QQ? All controls on my steering work , but I’ve noticed like squeaking or creaking noise when wheel is turned either direction when moving off...Thank you
The fact that the steering controls are working, does not mean you don't have a break on the clock spring... Test all connections first, wiring all the way up to the ecu... if in doubt, replace the clock spring first... they are not £500... more like £50... Thank you for watching!
Thank you awesome video however I have replaced three clock springs and my mechanic is telling me I need to replace it again. I do believe it to be a wiring issue like you said is it possible do you think that 3 o'clock Springs can go in the space of two years.?
Well, it is odd, but possible... If replacing the clock spring sorted the problem for you in the past, and is now the same issue, then clock spring it is... Are you using aftermarket or genuine parts? That can make a difference... 👍👍👍
Must have been the connection as it came good after re connection and you tried to re-create the fault by moving the wires. If the light still stayed on then the fault must be in the SDM ( control unit ) or the air bag module ( In the steering wheel ). Of course, it could be one of those annoying intermittents which comes out of nowhere when you're driving down the road. Incidentally, I don't believe the resistance in the air bag module can be measured directly as they have an automatic shorting bar feature incorporated when un-plugged. This is to prevent deployment from static charge or some one placing a meter across the terminals. The only way of knowing that resistance is by viewing it off a scan tool. If any one knows otherwise please fill me in.

Hello i changed this part 2 times first time the esp light start flashing because of wrong part then ordered a new used part. Now airbag light is of but steerig wheel buttons dont work. Not music level buttons or any of the cruise control buttons work.. do you guys think its somthing wrong with this part as well or do i need to code it to my ECU
The clock spring alone does not require any coding... You either have been really unlucky and that part is also bad, or that one does not support the steering wheel controls... Sorry to interrupt, but the EBS has to be released manually either by the buttom in the dash or somewhere between the front seats. Read the owners manual plse.
Willem Streutgers Correct... but depending on the car, don't know if he is taking about a Nissan, you then need to retract the system further back, to allow the new pads... VAG group for example, with the independent motors on each wheel.... 👍👍👍👍

No there are different faults for each component and circuit which steers you to that circuit & connection and each component has different codes for open, short to grd, short to VB. There are between 55-65 DTCs for SRS codes to isolate the malfunction. He had a Drivers Side Air Bag "Open" fault which steered him to that component. The connections under the seat will generate pre-tensioner, seat belt, seat track position, seat air bag, etc but will not generate a B1049 DTC.

Well I am talking about the Renault systems might be same as Nissan(no?)
Connection under the seat ? is notourious One can remove the underseat connection and solder the leads.
