@ didn’t say anything about that. Saying 98%(cool number) of players is overpaid makes no sense considering the league as a whole makes 8 billion a year
@Yungbasedonion they also spend over 5 billion on player salaries. NBA players are the highest paid athletes in the world so idk what you're even arguing. They're overpaid because the salary cap limits the amount a team can spend and locking up a quarter of it on players that only perform in contract years is bad business. Efficient spending means spreading that money out, paying role players more and valuing the team over "stars" Also 98% was a clear exaggeration. No need to be pedantic
This team is missing what made them so great last year. The defense was bad last year but good enough to compete. They have lost their 4 best defense/hustle players to injury. The guys that replaced the injured are either rookies or players that have dont fit what the team needs. They are simply less of a team than they were and Haliburton needs defensive pieces around him to shine.
Agreed. That's why they are struggling. They made it so far because they had big defensive and hustle players at the center of the team. They are currently without their 4 best defensive pieces and have added 2 younger players that are much worse at what they need. They are just simply a different team than they were.
The Pacers need to trade Pascal for PG. He's a better shooter can defend and is a better playmaker. I've never been a fan of undersized 4s who can't shoot, aren'tgreat rebounders and can't create for others not to mention he clogs up the offense. The 76ers need a 4 like him and he has a relationship with Nick Nurse and PG would be beloved back in Indiana. And it might reenergize both players being in more familiar locations
Haliburton needs to be more aggressive. They're trying to make him a facilitator in the first half, only to expect him to take over when they're down by 20. On top of that, aside from Siakam, the team is incredibly inconsistent. He just needs better support.
True but without the threat of his shot he can't get downhill as easily. It all stems from there. There's a reason he wasn't viewed as a primary coming out of college. He's not quick enough nor does he have a good enough handle to take guys off the dribble. The deep shooting made defenders play up an extra step/half step and that opened driving lanes which activated his playmaking. It's a lot like what Steph does on ball. Plus they built a perfect ecosystem for him then tore it down. What makes him special is he can play fast without making mistakes and they don't play as fast anymore.
"he just needs better support" sounds like a lebron excuse. They have 2 max cap players like all the top teams, he's just not that good plain and simple. Oh siakam is just mid as well.
They live and die with the 3pt shot , every game they have a wide open 2pt shot and kick it out for a contested 3. Drives me absolutely nuts. Take the high percentage shot and stop taking the 3.
Siakam is literally putting up career %s in terms of efficiency? So I’m guessing you mean he’s having a down yr based on averages. Even then he’s been the only consistent for them and he’s got the lowest usage rate in his career since 2018-19. That is also an issue. This team is not actually a 2 man squad. Carlisle is coaching a team that treats their 2 stars like role players instead of maximising them first and then incorporating the other pieces after letting the stars lead. I think that’s the biggest problem with their offense since the league has figured out the run and gun gimmick
@@DanMarin-lf7fewe have a lot more pieces to give than most of these teams that are rumored for jimmy. We have picks, plethora of role players, young guys like Furphy and jarace. @@michaelahurtStill is. His team changed drasticly at the start of the year with all his big defensive players getting hurt. The people he is playing with roght now have trouble making the best of the advantage Hali gives them.
Everyone from that Toronto championship run is overrated as hell. They performed peak for 1 season and never came close to repeating it again. Yet they all got major money.
Injuries are also a big factor. Their presumptive starting lineup -- Hali, Nembhard, Nesmith, Siakam, Turner -- has played four ganes together. They really need Nesmith and Nembhard on defense. I also think they want 2019 Siakam not 2024 Siakam but thats a different issue And they _really_ need Nembhard's secondary playmaking to crowbar open the gaps Hali creates. If he creates an advantage then the ball dies right now. That's why Hali- Brown-Buddy was so effective. They had that beautiful game element where the ball had life.
Very well put. Don't forget that Sheppard and Jackson that were the perfect defensive pieces for Obi and Mcconnell to shine. They upped Mathurin and Walker playing time which both havent meshed with the teams identity yet.
Siakam has declined a fair bit since 2019 defensively. I think even the 2022 version of him would mask up so many issues for them on both ends. The truth is without a schematic change you’d need an all nba level wing/forward defender to save this defense. They need to trade some of their younger pieces and make a move to save that defense, the talent and coaching on offense is there. The DEFENSE is the issue
He wasn't allowed to heal from his injury last year because he had to play hurt to be eligble for the extra $50 million. Jaylen Brunson did it right. He took a deal that was less than the max so that he could still be playing on a good team 2 years from now. Meanwhile, the Pacers will get worse once they can't keep Andrew Nemhard who makes much less, but actually looks better than Haliburton this year.
As a Raptor fan and the team having the Pacers 2026 1st (1-4 protected), this is not breaking my heart. The need to lock in players at large percentage of your cap space, while not getting production due to either performance or injury, makes legal gambling look like a surer bet. The stars are priced so high that it hurts the actual on the floor team quality and viewer product. Basketball needs to watch out or the viewership will decline and their economic value for broadcast rights will tank. Much like a resource economy which runs out of that resource. The 3 ball centric game has already reduced the balance of overall skills. Watching a team miss three after three (39% success on average last 5yrs), can get very, very boring.
I just saw shooting 3pt jump shot. Last season he have efficient 3pt shooting but he doesn’t have a jump shot. This season he’s adding jump shot and that might be the reason for his struggle
The only reason why the Pacers reached the Eastern Conference Finals last year is because they wanted to continue the trend of getting that far in the year that ends with 4, which dates all the way back to 1994 when they were led by Reggie Miller so I think it's safe to say last year's Playoff run could become a fluke in a not too distant future just like the 2019 Blazers and the 2021 Hawks.
