Each week the show invites two guests to cast a jaundiced eye over the week's news, resulting in a fast flow of anarchic, spontaneous and hugely entertaining wit and humour.

I love Merton's one liner, " it probably seemed like a good idea when you said yes".
He says nothing for over 2 minutes then comes out with the funniest part!
Clive Bindley nah that was a cheap shot. Anyone could have come up with that.
The TIMING key to any good joke is th- oh bollocks.
Merton
@@DeanMoxley87 A lot of TH-camrs would tell you to shut up, possibly call you a pedant or a grammar nazi. I won't, I'll just edit my 2 year old mistake, and say thanks for pointing it out.👍
Edit
I was possibly thinking of the footballer Paul Merson at the time. God knows why,
I hate Arsenal.
Never thought I'd see Alastair Campbell squirm like that😂😂
Alistair Campbell considers himself to be a very intellectual and smart individual who can best most people in an argument.... he hates it when someone who is smarter and more intellectual with an actual moral compass comes up against him!
Was that squirming?
@@DSQueenie Indeed, I think that the urge to squirm under such circumstances requires something called 'a conscience', not a thing that Alastair Campbell could ever be accused of possessing.
"Because they want to have a word." - perfect. Who was that guy with the perfect comic timing and British gangster intonation.

Ross Noble deserves a lot praise for defusing the tension there. Campbell and Hislop could've had a very nasty argument
Oh I don't know. If you see Ian vs. Prescott then you'll know how heated it can get. I think AC handled it well here, but then manipulation of an audience is his speciality. He knows that hitting back at Ian would only prove his point.
Though it was pretty tame compared with how they treated Angus Deayton on his last episode
@@tomb7427 Yeah, that was a really horrible atmosphere.
Russ Noble always delivers good gags
Ross handled that situation excellently!
Alistair Campbell is no match for Ian Hislop. Ian Hislop is actually one of only a very few credible journalists out there.
Liz Clegg was...
@@bobcemore4379 Before she took up paralympic sprinting and changed her name to Libby..
Hislop contracts to and defends the bbc, I suggest he and Campbell are working for the same people, whether Hislop knows it or not... 🙈
The way Hislop defended the establishment tribunal that found Blair and Campbell innocent shows all you need to know about this Potemkin journalist.
@@davewose9737 Would you like a tinfoil hat with that?
Nice to see Ross fuck Campbell right up. Makes us all feel better doesn't it.
This whole episode was gold dust. Amy chance of uploading the rest of it?
It's like ross noble is the child trying to distract his two arguing parents
Anagram of "Ian Hislop is a God" is "Dig a posh liaison" and an anagram of "Have I Got News For You" is "Get your show: Ian v Foe!"
Fantastic what some people spend their time doing, simply fantastic!
Or, for our Scottish friends, "dog a pish liason" lol

given what alistair campbell did to dr david kelly, ian hislop is one brave man!

Alastair Campbell - best ever advert for voting Leave
How’s that working out for you?
@@callummckenzie7540Leave won.
@@anglaismoyen, won the vote, not the exit, carried out by a government full of people who wanted us to remain in the EU.
@@SagaciousFrank are you daft or just cant remember boris johnson being prime minister?
You have a feeling hislop has a lot of information of what has happened anyone remember the Jonathan Archer incident which in the early days he kept saying allegedly till it all came out
My main goal in life, is to avoid the wrath of ian hislop.
Merton preventing himself from laughing at the other guests jokes. Never understood that.
It's because he's an arse and wants to be the centre of attention. If his jokes were funny, he might be, but they're not, and he isn't.
It strikes me he's trying to concentrate on the thread in order to think of a joke.
He was always deadpan in delivery and I think it's just a habit.
It's really hard to keep the line flowing with shows like that. He has to look away and concentrate on where it's going, rather than fully join in and lose himself. Kind of like an editorial role during the improvisation. As others have said it's also to do with where his humour comes from - miserable and dry.
I have a serious dislike for Campbell. He birthed the 'spin doctor' in this country and people have described exactly his contempt for others. His word was law.
Edward Kirkhope Only if you start time from the 90s. Churchill had spin doctors, Disraeli was a master of spin
Plenty of spin doctors before Campbell. Thatcher had a particularly odious specimen called Bernard Ingham.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_Ingham
you must REALLY hate Dominic Cummings then.
@@chrishughes1156 I remember Ingham was one of the fellows tricked by Brass Eye. 'Use yer cheese-box!' What an odd person.
@@chrishughes1156, Campbell took spin doctoring to a whole new level of lies.
Only in this country where war criminals who had hand in killing inoccent people around the world get a TV show to make funny and laugh about it.
Best show on telly and they fucked that up ...oh and top gear...
Ian Hislop wrote a lot of scripts for Spitting Image
Who the hell does Ian Hislop vote for. . . He hates every one
Spoils his ballot maybe
He lives in a Tory safe seat (Ann Widdecombe’s old constituency) so I doubt it matters but whoever might beat them.
If he were forced to choose, he'd go for Lib Dem, but only with Vince Cable at the helm.
He was a Lib Dem until 2020 but I don’t know who he voted for since then.
Why would anyone vote for the non-choice on offer?
Wrong Alastair. I thought it was the impressionist. XD
What’s the Scottish saying “nair trust a Campbell” ........ I like to see Ian Hislop verbally jousting with those who believe they are above reproach. Alistair Campbell....based on this observation “what an arsehole”. Cheera from Australia
This programme has run its course
Alistair is not shocked he's depressed.
definitely on something...
@@carbonarapadrino yeah antidepressants. He’s always been a massive depressive
Think of all the shock and horror, the scandals, slip-ups, cons, scams etc etc perpetrated by politicans in th UK (and elsewhere) and mocked relentlessly on HIGNFY over the last - what is it? -100+ years? Seems longer.
What has changed in the UK? Other than Ian Hislop's and Paul Merton's bank balances, obviously?
HIGNFY is smart-ass 'comedy' guaranteed 100% to uphold the staus quo. Bless.
They only mock right wing politicians. It’s been a very long time since they mocked the lefties.
Is it a sealion in a bathtub?
Only the bbc would think this might have been a good idea........
Difference is Campbell took it on the chin.
Hislop was very soft on Campbell. Maybe Campbell has some dirt on him.
Ever so well stompt Ross !!
And Campbell is still at large , with Blair. There’s no justice in the UK.
Which? xD
The slippery slope from Campbell/Blair leads straight to lying over Brexit and Boris as PM
Remainers lied much more about Brexit.
Who was the white middle aged guy?
Nice comment!
Kelly Draper God forbid, they have three regular panelists. Invite on those who are deserving or want to come on, there isn’t much else you can do.
This was a few years ago.
This was before the feminists/liberals installed quotas and panel shows started to look like the set-up to a joke: a disabled woman, a black man and a Marxist are on a panel show...

This is uncomfortable
Histopathology far too good for Cambell

Ross Noble owned so hard. He should be on there instead of Paul Merton.

Ian Hislop goes on like he's perfect
"They haven't charged you_________yet,". 😅

One of the advantages of a "Yes" vote in Scotland is that we won't see him returning to Downing Street any time soon.
How did that go then?
Campbell - the war criminal's bag boy.
As usual Campbell's smile never touches his eyes. Blair's Goebbels only minus Joey's winning personality.
He was like Goebells and Hitler rolled into one, everyone knows Campbell was the de facto PM for New Labour and its propaganda minister, Blair was just the 'I'm yer pal' airhead PR man.
