Man.....those were the best days of my life. I remember the night The Beatles first appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. The audience just went crazy. Those girls were crying and screaming. The noise was incredible. The screaming was so loud you couldn't hear The Beatles. Even on TV. They were the best group ever. Nobody or no group will ever top them. I was raised in the 60's and 50's.IMO, we had the best music, the best groups, well..... the best of everything!
I first used a metallic blue paint which did work out. Had to sand down and start over. So I would recommend solid colors. Had a friend spray automotive clear over the whole thing which gives it the wet look. Told later that automotive finishes don't like rattle cans but it worked out in my case. I have since built a Strat 12 string from a kit and inlaid wood on top. Turned out real good. Thanks!
At the time I built this I could not find a Ricky kit available on the internet. However, since then I have seen many on eBay at a reasonable price. I would have gone that route and paid the extra $$$, however mine was fun to build.
you wana see my build.. as we know mr hall the mean old barstuard hates anybody ripping of his axes... anyway,,, heres mine photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipNOP-877d05IBQPHnVyhEiM0qOnyHrBI4rHkNSm.. thats my artstation page. you will find her in the middle.. this is my step bros account. anyway.. mines the jetglo. the weller whamm is a real ric 2 grand that cost him.. 2 years it took me to make. and i have the blue prints aswell. that i kindly sent over to a lot of makers in china so they can get it right.. as they always look wrong from china. and i buy all my parts from ey guitar parts , china. they do everything you need to make a fake ric.. toasters covers.. i made mine into high gains.. the only part i never made was the R tail piece. that cost me 80 quid.so in all the axe cost me about 160 quid..my build is on TDPRI... if you can find it..... i was so let down. i thought it would turn me into a magical weller player lol... not so easy hey..
Great job. I'm in the process of a restoration of a guitar and was also thinking of a Union Jack paint job. Never done anything more ambitious with paint than a rattle can sunburst, so this video is a good guide. Any things you would have done differently should you do it again?
Cool job, I really like it. Please take my only criticism as constructive... your small red stripe (bottom left to top right) is incorrect. It should be opposite of how you have it. Take a look at an actual Union Jack flag, and you will see what I mean. It is still a really cool looking guitar. Thank for posting it!

Gorgeous
great job bro looks fantastic.
Well impressed. Looks spot on.
Brilliant! Great idea...and work
An inspiring project! I've recently been looking at doing almost the same thing with a kit, since the Lennon/Harrison look is so expensive to come by.
I know your right and I caught that too late. Also, now you can readily buy a Ricky kit. Oh well! Thanks for the feedback!
Fantastic!
Epic!!! Would be nice to hear it but still, good job!!
What does it sound like? I'd love to hear it.

A most excellent job!
Question, how did you get the masking tape in to such acute angles for the white coat?
I like it...cool

Run masking tape in straight lines full lengths, then trim away with exacto knife or razor blade.
