This is why there is a dialog where Eris tells Ikora to inform Elsie that she (Eris) 'Is not alone", as that was one reason for her going dark in the dark future timeline
That would make a lot of sense cause a lot more of our timeline she has people she relies on, drifter, Elsie( to teach her stasis), ikora and Zavala (tho they were disposed of by her), were all dead or against her, which does recontextualize the dark future

I don't think Eris will turn on us, she sheparded up through all conflicts with, Crota, Oryx, the nightmares and now becoming a hive god to slay another. She has suffered and sacrificed so much for humanity who did nothing but doubt her, yet her results speak for themselves. She has been a better leader to us than the vanguard have been in resent years.
You die a hero or live long enough to become the villain
It’s could all be part of her plan. Why would any of that matter if she was planning on turning on us all along. I don’t think it will happen but it would be a cool twist.
This just sets it up for an even more emotional betrayal. It really just matters what bungie wants to do and at the moment i dont think they want to make Eris the next big villain.

If anything, her brood & herself would become a Hive ally in out coalition with Caitals Cabal and the House of Light Eliksnii.
Who knows, perhaps she may even take on the mantle of the Taken King and use that power to turn Xivu's vastly superior forces against her.
Then she may work with Savathûn to try to revert those whom were taken. Savathûn generally hasn't been our direct enemy, she's only ever seen us as an obstacle or useful tool to achiever her goals.
Between the revelation we gave to her in the Witch Queen Campaign, Eris becoming a fourth Hive God & maybe the Taken King and having a common enemy may sway Savathûn to our side as an ally too.
Bone the less, I highly doubt Eris would ever turn her back on humanity. Even her Sword Logic Oath encompasses enacting Vengeance on behalf of fallen the various Human Variants that made up her two fire team raid group.
Her Logical Oath is Vengeance for the death and suffering of humans
So if she fully manifested as a Hive God, she couldn't betray her Logical Oath without suffering severely for it.
When you think about it, that was quite clever of her to base her Sword Logic Oath on that. It's a fantastic contingency that Immaru is quite clearly too dumb to realise.
Savathûn, if she were alive, would have picked up on it and used used her cunning & manipulation to change Eris's mind or twist it in some way to include enacting vengeance against all transgressions against humanity. Including those committed by humanity itself.

It is interesting that Elsie always returns to the parade where Cayde celebrates killing Taniks. It specifically mentions she always goes back there, where Cayde is. It just so happens he is the only person we know of within the traveler (or at least a copy of him). I feel Cayde has something to do with Elsie’s time loop
The Dark Future is such a cool piece of lore writing.

I wish the dark future is an episode or something it was such a good story and needs to be a playthrough
Problem with that is that it’s one where we succumb to Darkness and/or die. So not sure how that works.
@@acgearsandarms1343We canonically never existed, or had not achieved enough to be recognised, in any of Elsie's previous loop's.
We either failed to be revived by our Ghost, died our final death at some point along the way or fell to corruption as a no body of a dark guardian.
It was only when Elsie managed to create enough of a divergence that we were able to be as notoriously successful as we are.
That's when she was able to realise she could relinquish her attempts to control how things play out; By being able to rely on us and other's to enact the change needed to avoid the dark future's she has experienced.
This time around she has gone further in the time line and seen more success than any other time before.
It's all new territory for her, she no longer has any inclination as to what can happen in the future, becauae as stated she has never gotten this far.
All she can do is hold on to the hope that this is the time line where we succeed together; By continuing to rely & trust in us and others or continuing to help where she can.
Between Elsie and us, we have altered the universe's destiny and will continue to do so into the future.

@acgearsandarms1343 yes. She has bone through this time loop and watch others and ourselves failed many times. She has gone through a lot of time loops
Elsie wakes to relive this nightmare over and over, doing everything to change it.
This suggests to me that Elsie is our answer to the Veil and what happens when it is used without its counterpart, the Traveler.
It seems that in just the Darkness, people do go mad because they are reliving the same thing, for the Darkness is the ethereal realm. Emotions. Connections.
The Light gives the restart of something eternal. A fresh new look at the Universe, with the capabilities to grow and make things gentler, for the end of a life is inevitable, but the end of life is impossible. Life finds a way.
Without growth, we are stagnant, and in being still, we die. Without purpose, growth seems senseless, lacking direction. So many vines growing over and under, we lose sight of the garden. The winnower needs to maintain it and tend to it's organization.

Near the end of the video it was starting to sound like the traveler keeps sending Elsie to the past to change the outcome of what happens. Or until she finds us. The Traveler’s Chosen.
The main point of divergence between the Dark Future and our timeline is the presence of the Player character. I wonder how Ghaul was defeated without us. But also, it’s almost certain that the Veil plays a huge role in all of this, even though the lore book was written before we even knew about the Witness or the true nature of the Final Shape. If the timeline reset when the Traveler blew itself up, then is it possible that the Witness needed the involvement of the Player character to obtain the goal it desired: to link the Veil with the Traveler’s Pale Heart and wield Light and Darkness in symmetry so that it could enact the Final Shape?
iirc Elsie says at the start of Beyond Light's campaign that in those past timelines even we, the Guardian, fell to the corruption. Also Elsie's time-loop seemed to always 'start' in the same place, in the crowd watching Cayde-6 become Hunter Vanguard, at least as far as the last page of the Dark Future lore book seems to imply.

So then, what makes this timeline different is that she chose to relinquish the need to control Stasis and instead she helped train us to wield it? If so, then there’s a common thread there with the Veil and Strand. Even while using Stasis is contingent upon control and willpower, it didn’t make a difference until she let go…

To the above comments, I think that the OP comment above is somewhat correct. There is one thing the Dark Future doesn't have is us as the player, the one behind the Guardian, experiencing it. We do know that Ahamkara, and Savathun, both have broken the 4th wall somewhat at times in their own ways, one of which the Ahamkara bone exotics sometimes do is directly address us. Sure, our Guardian might have existed in the Dark Future timeline, but it wasn't exactly us since we weren't playing by controlling them. All we can experience of that Dark Future is the lore entries Elsie has given us, not play through it, and I don't think Bungie will ever let us - unless in a future expansion/episode they decide we need to jump between timelines and undo Dark Futures wherever we go, making them not quite Dark Futures anymore. Just a theory on my part, carry on.
THe Dark Future has already been averted. THe main thing of it is that because we didn't go looking for the Black Garden, when the Vanguard eventually accessed it, rather then going to it's heat and deatroying the Black Heart, they simply had Guardians patrol the Garden, because the Black Heart was never destroyed this allowed it to corrupt Guardians who entered the Garden, eventually at some point they'd betray Humanity. ANd because we weren't there for Eris I think the Guardians still somehow beat each threat that surfaced, but Eris hadn't begun trusting others more, and so she delved into her dark studies and I guess the lonliness eventually got to her, and she became corrupted. Elsie changed things by setting the player on their quest to destroy the Black Heart, and they payer basically became a unifying force, being someone everyone relied on and trusted. And so this kept Guardians from being corrupted too soon by Darkness allowing us to learn the lessons and guidance needed, and we acted as an anchor for Eris, keepign her tied to her humanity and building trust between her and the Vanguard, so that as she did delve into her studies, she alsways had people who'd have her back no matter what happened. But the Dark Future basically followed events a little different up to just before Beyond Light.
9 yrs in this game and the first part of the story we start and see Eris change is one of the best cinematic visuals I have seen and made me feel like we got some fresh air in this game if that makes sense . I truly enjoyed watching that and what this season can become . I have always thought about Eris being more then we think and know ,

Something I always think back to when talking about possible futures in Destiny is the Far Future Sniper rifle and Stochastic Variable SMG lore tabs, both weapons are about possible futures (via the psion OXA machine and FWC the Machine), Both have futures that are still possible
Eris was “corrupted” in the sense she was plagued by nightmares. In the dark timeline she didn’t have friends (us) to help her accept/move past them
Why would eris go anywhere near the vex?!! She has never at any point been anything but obsessed with the hive. I wouldnt be surprised if she didn't even know the vex existed! Lol.

Bungie should've licensed Donovan's Season Of The Witch song for the season trailer, that really would've been the icing on the cake here.
Always found the Dark Future lorebook (a) compelling and (b) a sort of prophecy in that, if it was a rendition of a possible future, Bungie would then give us events similar but not identical to that story. And they have! Been waiting for someone to bring this back up, thx Myelin.
I feel like the timeline resets once the traveler feels it’s lost but still before the witness wins and now that we’re here the traveler is trusting we can stop the witness

Would be crazy that time reset is just a simulation from the vex from beyond the final shape. Also what is the exact time she comes back to? When our guardian is ressurected by our ghost?
The point in time Elsie Bray always gets pushed back to is the parade in the City of Cayde-6's victory over Taniks, elevating him to Hunter Vanguard. She always finds herself in the crowd as the parade wraps up. So she comes back well before our Guardians are rezzed for the first time.
In the dark future, Savathun didn't have the Light. Drifter was dead. Ikora was dead. Rasputin was still somewhat intact. The Dark Heart was still intact because that's what corrupted Guardians to turn them to Eris' side. So like....those points alone proves it's not the Dark Future.

@@bigtiredpotato doesn’t mean different factors could create a different version? Just because the dark future happened one way in one universe doesn’t mean it’ll all happen the same way.
If anything I'd say we're in the Light Future timeline now. A timeline where, thanks to the efforts of Elsie and Eris, all the 'worst case scenario' events that consistently came to be in the Dark Future timelines have been pre-empted or otherwise neutralized leaving us with a solid chance of putting an end to the Witness for good.
Pretty sure Drifter was in the Deep Stone Crypt to become an Exo to survive since he is so afraid of death
I think it would be really cool to see one of these dark futures in the opening of final shape.

Imagine in future DLC, all of the known locations in Destiny turn into dark ruin locations, with the sun blocked out, buildings and environment looking aged, broken and dead. Also where Guardians seek refuge on another location, maybe on hidden asteroids or on large hidden space stations.
I hope for a new Destiny game in the future on the vein of having full planets like Starfield and No Man's Sky but with the same kind of gameplay of Destiny we know and love. Make the experience more convincing and dynamic. LET'S GO!!!
the logo has Eris in the background and the shapes (including the walls) strongly resemble the Crota Symbol. With that being the upcoming raid, and us needing to work with Immaru/Savathun, could she for some reason be resurecting Crota through Eris? Not likely because all other reprised raid arent different canonically, but fun to think about I guess

I think that, much like Season of the Seraph, this season will show us how Eris will develop differently than her dark future version. Ana Bray would have turned without having Elsie's influence and support. I think her relationship with Drifter will have a positive impact, and/or maybe her relationship with Ikora because of Elsie's warning.
I'm curious to see how Eris (on moon) be like after this season. She did got new dialogues despite her old look.
I'm living my own dark future now but I'm not bad I just have had a terrible time of it when I thought of killing myself I found your channel and destiny is something I love I've played since day one and you have helped me figure out even more of the lore

Honestly one of my favorite lore books in the game. I believe the 1 thing that makes this timeline different is our Guardian. We defeated the black heart, which was not done in any other timeline.

Quick question, eris says "do not be afraid. Witness my sublimation" when she does her transformation, and it seems to parallel the witness ' monologue at the end of the witch queen cmpaign.
Is there something there being hinted at?
Timelines. If, big IF, there is a new saga after The Final Shape (TFS), I can only see a new saga one a new timeline. Elsie (Exo Stranger) mentions them often. All tones for TFS feels like a goodbye since all guardians are in the Traveller. Ghost - “Rise….One. Last. Time>”. I have a feeling since our ghost came from the traveller and we’ll in it, all guardians die. As guardians say “….. sacrifice leads to death”.
They don’t do that though because of the episodes lmao

Our Eris seems different. Like stasis and strand, darkness can be used for good.
I think the concept of the dark future is not that eris was corrupted its that we failed to bring her back. Thats going to be the main plot twist of the season. It'll probably involve the drifter and further the characters of both of them

I still don't really understand the corrupting aspect of darkness and all that. Because Darkness used to be like the dark side of the force, you touch it once and your addicted to it and murdering everyone you see. Than beyond light said its safe as long as you don't be dumb with it. Than by lightfall its a totally neutral force that can restore memory and make collect calls to to dead people, but the witness was somehow manipulating it as a whole, except strand which seemed.
If ALL of this is correct, i just wanna know what force corrupted the dark guardians in the past like dredgen yor
It would be cool if bungie slowly implemented that lore book then after so many years maybe move to a destiny 3 with a new engine, dedicated servers, and some extra stuff. Maybe at some point the traveler is destroyed that’s where 3 starts then we have to learn the darkness over again and they give completely new takes on it like the light classes going from D1 to D2. I’d love that personally but not sure on how others would take it considering it would also mean another hard reset of everything for it to be my vision still. Either way bungie does seem to be ramping things up again this season with the story and I’m loving what we already have. Definitely worth the drought and few weeks break I took for the story we are now getting!

I get this funny...no not funny..eerie feeling that eris is gonna become corrupted by the power ever since i saw that first cutscenes this thought has been in the back of my mind.
Isn’t the only difference between the dark timelines and ours is that our guardian exists? Most of the notable events from the dark timeline haven’t happened or have been outright contradicted.
I was worried for eris at the reveal, and everything since is telling me that she's not going to make it out of this ok

If this timeline is the one where we win, then I think we need to see more from Elsie Bray in next season, or even this one, before the Final Shape. Otherwise I'm convinced this future will be reset just like the last one.
All these just make me think that we are gonna have to fight these dark version of everyone at some point in the future, because these is clearly a different time line must of the events don't line up, but not gonna lie I'm very worried for Eris, Savathun is always a step ahead and clearly making Eris into a Hive god is part of Savathun's plan, I don't think she still gets tribute from Cunning but she always has a plan.

This season is probably the closest we have come, or are coming to the Dark Future. So armed with that knowledge we have the wherewithal to prevent that Dark Future coming to pass.

why does The Stranger have the time loop problem?
I would like to think that the experiences Eris has had in this timeline and the knowledge of the truth of the Darkness changes things drastically.
Though imo, Eris has been a "witch" by Hive standards for quite some time. She knows, understands, and wields Hive magic regularly. She likely understands Hive magic just as well as ones such as Nokris and Omnigul. Even now, maybe even enough to almost rival Savathun, Xivu, and maybe even Oryx.
With all that, I do suspect that this is a permanent change to Eris. She will not come back as she once was. But, like Savathun, she has a more clear picture of the truth and her focus is absolute on vengeance. And she knows *exactly* what is to be done at this point, no matter the sacrifice. Like we keep hearing, "Devotion, bravery, sacrifice."
