Alo ! When I was kid I lived in Brazil, Sao Paulo, and in my backyard we have several fruits, as guavas ( goiaba ), aracas (lemon guavas), avocados (abacates ), papaias (mamao), a lot of lemons cultivars and others fruits. There are several other guavas cultivars growing in Brazil. Using white guavas and pink guavas my mother used to make compotes and marmelaides. so delicious. Also she used to make juice using the fruit blender. Juice of aracas also very delicious. But now I am living in Canada, Toronto and I am not sure if I can grow such fruits here. The winter here is too cool. Some time ago I bought 6 pink guavas in Walmart, peel it with a potato peeler, took out the seeds, put in a bow with 3 spoons sugar and microwave at low power. So delicious. Grafting guava is common procedure and you can have a tree producing fruits in less than 10 months. Strawberry guava, cas, and lemon guava, we translate as aracas ( say arassa's ) and are small trees, getting 3-4 feet high, very resistant plant and very productive. Also aracas compotes and marmalades are are delicious. Anyone have any experience growing guavas or aracas in Canada? please let me know. Cheers Gilbert ggandra@yahoo.com

I love guavas and I have never heard of most of the ones you have. I live in the valley of Southern Cal. and it gets a bit cold which ones are more cold hardy? I do have pink guava that I bought from homedopot and looking to add more varieties. I just found your channel, thanks for sharing.
You have to get yourself a Brazilian Guava, it has yellow skin and is a little smaller than the standard Guavas. Also the leafs are a little different.
I am enjoying your video, this is the second time I am watching it, kind of learning too. I have five small trees, and one of them has already bore fruit, two guavas, yes! Anyways, I noticed that hot weather can be worse to guava trees than cold weather, I live in northern California. Also, the soil might not help much if its clay like, because it turns really hard during the summer, and if it is not mixed up properly with some other soils like sandy loam, the water cannot reach the tree's roots. We fixed this though, we dug deeply and carefully close to the roots, and found some ants at the foot of the tree (tree that bore fruit), but from then on the tree was healthier and it started growing more, and gave us fruit. This tree had bloomed for couple of years, but always dropped the whole flower, until now. Im now going to add mulch around them to keep the moisture during hot summer. The type of trees they are, I am not sure, one has reddish leaves and it looks like a bush, no fruit, but growing much more lately; 2nd one just bought from one of the hardware stores last year with fruit on it, it looks green and big, with white flesh; 3rd one, I do not remember, but it is still small, and no fruit; 4th one is a really small tree, do not know what kind is it, no fruit, and 5th tree it is about 4 ft tall, and it is the one that bore fruit this past autumn, it was yellow and round outside, and light pink flesh. Did not mean to write a book :)
I live in Vista as well have a red Malaysian guava didn't have much time to take care of it was working out of town had the white flies on it almost killed it and then they started on my citrus and with the white flies it brings the ants and then you get the black fungus all over the leaves and then the tree starts to die like your videos
In San Jose, I have 3 "Red Malaysian",, also heard them called Thai Maroon. The leaves are short and skinny on one, another very long, fairly wide, and the third, almost perfectly round. It is a fun hobby.
Just got a pink guava and red and yellow cherry guava trees, hard to get fresh guava here in Australia, in fact I've only ever tasted guava in juice, waiting to get a mexican cream guava tree in a few weeks. Then i will start collecting some other fruit trees

In Malaysia, the red guava tree is sold as Australia red guava, i have no idea why. I never knew their existence until i was looking for jambu mawar last year. Unfortunately, my tiny red guava tree i bought with a mawar jambu was attack by red ants. After months of struggling, it died last month. I was about to buy a replacement when i noticed strawberry guava is getting ridiculously expensive all of a sudden. Waiting for it to arrived next week. Waxed jambu is nice isn't it. I have a medium sized red ones. Hope to get a green and a white (called jambu susu/milk) ones one day

the whit stuff is called meelibug , you use washing up liquid in water and spray. does not harm the plant at all and put some int he soils and base of the tree
The plants grow fine as far north as the bay area...but they lightly sweeten. Not like in hotter climates. Plus,they take a lot of water to thrive. I might remove my pink. The small yellow is fine..sweet and easy to grow.

So Cal backyard Orchard winter -8 till -10 minus, but only few days, exactly we don’t have lot snow here , autumn &spring most around 4c/10 -12c/16 sometimes till 18c -20c possible too wen its spring

Lars Sveen I have strawberry guava too and the fruit is yellow when ripe. I don't like the taste because it's sour and the flesh is quite sandy texture and the seeds are big. I've learned that there is another kind of strawberry guava and the fruit is red like of course strawberry. I am wondering if my strawberry guava is really it as what the seller told me. I am quite disappointed because it was so expensive yet the fruit is tastless.
Are you eating the skins of the pineapple guava? Not all are comfortable to eat. The red strawberry guava is best when they are falling out of the tree.
I have the pink Guava from Home Depot they are as big as an orange but I cannot get one to eat because they are consumed with worms do you know what I can use to spray the tree?
Izonie James those worms are from fruit fly’s. You’ll have to cover the fruit when it’s forming on the tree to prevent the fruit fly from laying eggs on the fruit.
Izonie James woah that's a lot of fruit and a lot to cover. The bags I've seen people using to protect their fruits are organza bags. It's like a really fine mesh bag. Party stores or even Amazon may carry them. Some people even use paper bags. You can also set a trap for the fruit flies made of vinegar and dish soap. Another thing is to pick up dropped fruit and discard of it right away. You can also pick the guava before it gets ripe, from what I've heard. But then you'll also have to be careful the fruit flies doesn't come inside your home and lay eggs there. Hope this helps.
@@lemontea128 When I was kid, I used to eat guavas with the worms. All kids did it. Nobody get seek. Now I am 76 and if I get one fresh ripe guava I will eat with no care with the worms. The guavas shall be ripe in the tree, if you pick up after 2 days the fruit lost the sugar and flavor. The worms are produced by fruit flies that attack the peaches and other fruits. The flies lay egs in the guava and eggs produce the worms The solution is make small bag using newspaper paper and attached in the young green guava that is in the tree. The guava continue to grow and get ripe inside the bag, After 2weeks you can pickup and eat free of worms .

Is it possible for a seedling to be better tasting than the parent tree?

Gregarious3 I haven’t had one yet but there is a decent sized one on the tree right now.

From froze. What’s the temperature it could possibly handle?
