Karthigai deepam festival guidance
When it starts?
It is celebrated on the full moon day of Karthigai month. Festival is Dec 10, 11 and 12. Pancharatra Deepam is on 12th.
How many lamps to use?
27.
What are the types of lamps?
Earthern, Copper, Brass and silver.
Benefits of each type.
Earthern or mud - Veeram, Vrithi, Santhana Prapthi,
Bronze - To get rid of sins
Brass - To get rid of obstacles
Silver - Wealth.
Where all to keep the lamps?
Kitchen - 1
Hall - 2
Doors - 2
Tulsi - 1
Main entrance - 5
Room entrance - 2
Outside entrance - 4
Backyard - 2
Others on compound walls, windows, balconies etc.
What are the general neivedhyams?
Appam, Nel pori urundai, Aval pori urundai.
What deity predominant?
How to do pooja?
Wash and dry the lamps.
Put chandan and kumkum for all the lamps.
Put kolam in the vassal, tulsi maadam and in the pooja room.
Wear clean clothes.
Oil and light the lamps.
Offer the neivedhyams.
Arrange the oil lamps near doors, windows, balconies, compound walls.
Do this for three days.
Viratham procedure
Complete fasting is advisable on Pancharatra Deepm (ie) on 12th Dec’ 19. If not possible we can have food for lunch and then evening take shower before lighting the lamps.
