splatoon speedruns are always so fascinating due to how slick the movement is in this game, truly nothing like it
I love how even the developers themselves knew about that first Squid Surge skip, considering Cuttlefish immediately compliments the player on their skill if they pull it off.
It surprises me how fast people can come up with routes for speeduns

8:46 think about it lore wise, the octo longs had to prepare and train on recreations of inkopolis battlegrounds (which were the battle maps), but because alterna is an area that has been hidden even from inklings and octolings, there would be no way for that to make sense underground.

6:15 As far as I remember the skip was originally found on the right side by jumping off the ledge as the ooze disappeared not on accident but by someone actively trying to skip the cutscene.
Due to needing to break more ooze to reach the ledge we thought it wouldn’t save time with that method but a few days later someone found the left side version that lontr0 used.
Also for the practicing thing, rather than spend 17 minutes reaching the skip a few of us have bought a family plan so we can make a cloud save at the skip and practice it repeatedly.

yea I think hashedrice was the one to find that left side was possible, on their first attempt no less lmao. I found the initial right side skip, which only saved like 15 seconds or something due to needing more power eggs.
Honestly, Callie would be the type of person to make a fight more random.
The techniques and glitches that speed runners find always amaze me. Most impressive!

the fact that failboat discovered the tactic where u can jump on the part of the bridge that aren't contaminated with the fuzzy ooze is funny to me
9:21 The official name for this skip should be “failwaste skip” because failboat thought of it and spent 30 minutes trying to see if it is posssible and to skip ONE level.

That’s what I love about S3 Story mode compared to 1 and 2
It’s more Speedrun friendly because for the most part you only need enough power eggs to get through any ooze blocking you from any of the pipes leading to the next site and the bosses, not everything is mandatory for progression compared to the other two games.
I like that they took an Octo expansion route for the main story mode because some levels are just… no. And I’m so glad we can just skip them instead of agonizingly taking 10 years to beat 1 level
I remember discovering a few skips myself, and seeing those here felt pretty validating. But the cutscene skips were downright genius.
Much like the Big Man boss fight reminding us of Sunshine, The zipcaster part of the final area reminds me of that Twilight Princess mini game lmao.
Amazing story mode!
I watched most of the speedruns from him of the story mode, and i love seeing him doing it knowing i can't do that in under 3 hours
I believe the reason there isn't any turf war stages in the story mode is that Alterna is that its an old place underground. Octarians could spy on the turf stages and replicate it for the previous games but with Alterna they couldn't. Also cuz Mr. Grizz hasn't been to the stages yet since no Big Runs have taken place currently.
8:48 This is the best part of having multiplayer stages in the hero mode imo, I always enjoyed revisiting old Urchin in Splat 1's Octostriker level for nostalgia's sake.

I actually discovered that jump at 8:07 on my own, although without squid roll. I just made a straight path across to that small side ledge once inked, and barely made the jump. It looked exploitable from the get go and I was tryna rush through story mode so after like ten minutes I finally got the jump, never thought of using squid roll though.

I actually skipped a massive pile of fuzzy ooze by aiming upward slightly and just superjumped to the kettle lol.
I'm not even done with the vid but I must comment and add that I am indeed a splatoon 2 vet who would genuinely say "Splashdown my beloved" It was my fave special to used in 2....
You could say that at the end of the first zone he skipped the Deep Cut-scene

Idk why none of the playthroughs of story mode I've seen have the sensor before reaching big man, it trivializes the entire fight.

Playing the story mode day one or day two, I can remember thinking that the speedruns were gonna be crazy.

I will say that from the lack of rng in S3, it makes it a lot more fun to speedrun. Already have gotten top 5 in the main category (6th at the moment). Only thing is all the tricks that you have to do but it feels great to pull them off. Also isn’t just a copy and paste which makes it a lot more fun to run

Fun fact for those who don't know the jump patter on Octavia is decided by little buddy's hair style
When I did the hero mode, I wasn’t even trying to go really fast, but I did some major skips and did about 2-3 kettles per island

In all seriousness, it's fascinating just how quick this game can already be beaten in, and it's not even close to fully optimized probably
I believe the Octavio fight could be faster by pre-throwing Little Buddy on ink vac. I got the ink vac closed in about a second by throwing Little Guy at the Vac before it started.

It's really fun how many skips there are and how many things that are just whoop wow this feels some of these feel like the world Force skipping the original Splatoon it's a really funny and you're a great Creator so I'm guessing it's surprising for you to see stuff you don't let me know
if you wanted a harder big man fight try only using burst bombs . it made the fight a lot more fun for me
I just don't upgrade my weapons in Splatoon story modes. It makes it challenging. I will say it was difficult running away from Big Man with the broken base weapon.
do you wanna know whats funny i did the splash down skip not even realizing it as even a speed run strat cause what i was doing was cause i was grinding for power eggs as one does at the start of the game i was trying to not go to the normal path and was trying to intentionally trying to go down to what i thought was a secret area and there would be a sardinium/sunken scroll waiting for me and thinking that splashdown removed all momentum i thought it would make it so instead of going to the next boost pad i would go to the "secret platform" instead i go up an entire platfrom skiping

I think you don’t need to wait for the eyes to flash that just means you get armor the moment your squid\ocotling form is visible you can squid serge I haven’t tested it in a while

@@trickygamer555 No, Stamp has a bug that if you try to hit an opponent or throw the Stamp at an opponent, the Stamp would pass through and nothing would happen

When are they gonna add weapons with the same base stats but different specials and sub specials? Like same base weapon but different abilities cuz I noticed how little weapons there are

If you are able to get rewards from stages more than once per stage, wouldn’t you be able to farm the one shot one with the e liter to quickly get all the eggs you need? That could be a huge time save if it works

That's its own category, any% pause abuse. It's not very optimized yet, with a wr of 1:10

@@Bassgangvt replaying big bang is about 300 eggs per 40 seconds with all the loads, which ends up being really bad egg efficiency

I am now trying that glitch with the pause abuse thing just to get a bunch of eggs so I can continue to use the sheldon drone for free stuff. If there is a video that shows you how to do it better please let me know. I wanna see try it. It's kinda hard for me

@@kileyrushforth9233 yeah i had a similar problem on a site where i had cleared absolutely all the black squares but still didn't have it surveyed. turns out the green areas count too and they mean there's still hidden stuff you can get via smallfry

I wonder if pause abuse will be patched out. Devs want us to play the game, and pausing to get infinite power eggs to skip nearly every level, IMO, should be patched out
