Tuning: Drop C obviously

*Smash like for Drop C*
Great vid , do you know what earphones Matt's using by any chance ?
Nik pls create video about your Axe FX and how you recording this and morę about tones
Dropping a like for Drop C.
I still do drop c and it’s been working great!
ahhh yes i shall smash like for my favorite tuning
Sorry for my lifeless, vacant expression. I didn’t wanna mess up 😭. Love you Nik!
Still fire 🔥 vibes. 🤘
We luv u
Leave me lifeless and vacant
it's called focus face
HAIL EARLY 2000’s METALCORE
- meat beefy
Hells yeah 🤘
Ascend above the ashes
bro you're really good, you should join a band maybe
NO ONE RIFFS UNTIL HEAFY RIFFS XD love you lord heafy
Dude your riffs sound like something Matt Heafy from Trivium would make. You should try and send this to him maybe he'll let you join their band
Aight for real tho some of the riffs reminded me of some Trivium tunes which is awesome
Hahaha this is so good
Ok let's do it
@@NikNocturnal "we finally plugged in" shouldn't have been a funny a comment as it is
Nic has come such a long way and to get a Matt Heafy feature is insane too
Was thinking the opposite, lol. Both are great!
@@metallicaguy123 so he hasn’t come a long way to Matt on a feature vid? lol what are you even trying to say?!
@@elfontheshelf8400 I meant it as Matt has come such a long way to be featured on a Nic feature. They are definitely both great players
I mean Matt Heafy literally talks to everyone in the metal community so it’s not that hard but Nik is definitely good and has certainly come a long way.
Matt is a very open and decent human being and he's been alot more involved since COVID as well so it was more likely than before that they'd do a collab but still great to see both in the same video
This sub 4 minute video somehow had the entire BFMV discography in it.
As I lay dying too
@@nicolacavalieri2364 I was gonna say, this video could have been written using a "Frail Words Collapse" tab book... Except maybe the last one, that sounded more like Trivium (WEIRD RIGHT? I WONDER WHY!?)
@@danielnelson4881 that dude playing the solo covers a ton of their stuff
@@user-os2io9yj4f That's pretty cool, but he'd be even cooler if he could write his own stuff.. the chump!
@@danielnelson4881 one of my first shows ever was trivium/as I lay dying and some other band that doesn’t matter. Life altering.
I love how much Matt takes part in the online metal community
@sotuur aeei I watch this video over and over just for that part lmao
@@MrPikl-zm3puKSE VIBES 🔥
I feel like metal bands as a whole are very active online
2000s metalcore is the best period for metal for me.
Yes
@Dragon Ball fans can't read k
It'll always be one of my favorites
@Dragon Ball fans can't read why are people like this?
@Dragon Ball fans can't read 🙄
That ''Riffing Chords'' was EVERYTHING!!!! Instant KSE vibes!
No no, you've got it all wrong my friend!!! The "everything solo," was everything, alright mayne? Don't lemme hear chu forgetting again ok? It's literally in the name mayne!
cause it's basically rose of sharyn :P
I was about the comment that aswell, but for some reason i felt i was gonna get crucified in the comments.. but I'm glad I'm not alone :D
like actually was a great riff, wish I thought of that one 20 years ago
sounds like My Curse to avoid copyright version
I love how expressive Matt is here especially in comparison to Nik
Never thought I'd hear someone say that. "Nik was more expessive than (insert literally anyone)."
Yeah just as expressive as the Davie guy
Octave chords - while she sleeps
5-7-8 + harmony - as i lay dying
Melodic tremolo picking - parkway drive
Quick pull off & hammer on - august Burns red
Pinch harmony stuffs - Killswitch
The everything solo - usuall trivium track.
@@MrHaggyy Yeah, i think immediately in a gunshot to the head of trepidation but forget put it even with matt in the screen :v
That 5-7-8 came straight from Shadows are Security, the tremolo picking from Killing with a smile, the everything solo Ascendancy.
I would've loved to hear some inspiration from "Courting Tragedy and Disaster" by Himsa, one of my favorite albums of all time... But nobody else online ever seems to talk about it... Guess it's more a Washington thing.
5-7-8 + harmony was nearly identical to "Knives and pens" by Black Veil Brides
This was basically a checklist of how my first band wrote our songs 😂
Can we all be honest with ourselves and say that Level 4 still is fucking beautiful?
:D
It reminded me of My Curse by Killswitch it was amazing
More than life it self!!!
sounds like when i sing in bathroom cuz no other style is worth singing in the bathroom
August burns red do it well
I started listening to metalcore a year ago.
HOW CAN THIS FEEL NOSTALGIC TO MEEEE
:D
Same bro
Imagine how I feel, listening to almost solely metalcore throughout 03-07 during my high school years.
samee
Skip vid n00b
There was just something special about 2000s Metalcore. Most everything now is just "let's be as heavy as possible" but back then there were some sick riffs, great chugs, and interesting melodies.
Heavy only in the sense that you'll need special subwoofers to listen to everything properly. 2000s metalcore was simple, rhythmic, groovy, had good choruses, good melodies, and the lyrics were meaningful. As I lay dying is great, even now confined is so good.
I have the power of 29 to 30
The bands I thought of from each level:
Level 1 - Too many to list
Level 2 - BFMV
Level 3 - Mastodon
Level 4 - KSE
Level 5 - BFMV
Level 6 - After the Burial
Level 7 - ???
Level 8 - Old School All That Remains
Level 9 - BFMV... again
Level 10 - Coincidentally... Trivium
Level 11 - Chelsea Grin
The level 5 its more like old school As i lay dying
Lvl 2 is more ADTR for me and lvl 5 AILD 😁😁
@@rammknot13 yes bro u know what im sayng
@@pietrobiolcatirinaldi I was mainly making a joke with BFMV that they use a lot of those techniques. I like the AILD and ADTR calls.
Level 9 to me sounds like as I lay dying
Love that Nik pulls all the facial expressions while Matt just looks relaxed through it all lol
Further proof that Matt can fart out classic core riffs in his sleep. I'm glad Trivium has evolved but I'm also glad that they still throw it back to the mid 2000's for some songs/sections in their recent albums. And congrats on another great collab Nik, it was only a matter of time for MKH to show up here!
Haha dude basically led the movement, no wonder it's as simple as breathing or blinking for the TriviuT heefe
The nostalgia 🙌🏻. Give me 5, 7, 8 or give me death
That Level 4 reminded me a lot of August Burns Red. Specifically Constellations.
ABR
Man, I nearly started to cry when Level 4 came on. I am such a bitch for that particular style.
It also reminded of Killswitch Engage
@@Paulosf94 I agree. Very Killswitch
@@Paulosf94 very close to my curse riff tbh if not specifically that
Level 4 riff sounded amazing! I wanna see that in a whole song
it reminded me of My Curse from KSE
@@domkovi me too man, that is one of my favorite riff
@@domkovi Nah man it reminded me of Reject yourself than My curse
Don't mind me just vibing here in the comments section lol, but seriously! Awesome vid as always!
Thank you, glad you dig it!
Nik and matt showing off pure levels of guitar skills 👌
0:52 Killswitch engage style riff
1:07 Matt messing around with some as I lay dying style riffs
Also this is the first time I see Matt from trivium playing drop c because as far as we know trivium has no drop c songs
Heafy is so fucking under appreciated as a guitarist. So technically clean and incredibly creative
That "Everything solo" is fire! 😀
this was beautiful, i have used every single one of these in my music LOL what can i say i love metalcore
C0rekid for life
Most of these reminded me of several stages of As I Lay Dying. They really were the quintessential metalcore band in the early years.
Love the Matt Heafy feature! Trivium is great. You guys played well in this video.
2000’s metalcore will always hold a special place in my heart ❤️ 🤘(Matt does too)
True
It’s amazing how much of this feels like a KSE tutorial.
2:13 sounds so much like early AILD
Those riffing chords hit me hard, love that sound!
So many levels gave me an AILD vibe. Love it!
Loved the different faces for each level
Have to really showcase the intensity increase
Riffing chords is just so cool and fun. I don't care if it's a cliche. It's like guitar harmonies. They are inherently badass and epic.
I’ll be honest I didn’t want this video to ever end, it encapsulates my teenage years and the formation of my music taste perfectly 😂
Glad you enjoyed it!
0:52 Killswitch engage?
All of the levels sounded great. Level 9 especially.
It all sounds either like As I Lay Dying or Killswitch Engage
last time i was this early, asking alexandria still made heavy music
loving the content recently Nik, especially those of us who follow you in twitch, keep up the good work man! we love ya!
@Dragon Ball fans can't read you gonna reply to every single comment ?
@Dragon Ball fans can't read the album From Death to Destiny would like to have a word with you
@Dragon Ball fans can't read listen man, objectively speaking it’s heavy music. my basis goes off if people outside of the metal community recognize it as heavy, then it’s heavy. i understand that the metal community likes to gatekeep because we’re all miserable ig but i’m speaking objective truth whether you like it or not.
@Dragon Ball fans can't read you really didn’t read my comment. I mentioned a specific album by them. Not their first 2. Listen to their song Poison off From death and Destiny, it’s about as good as many modern metalcore bands
@Dragon Ball fans can't read or the song The Death of Me, that’s a better example
5-7-8 sounds like Through Struggle by As I Lay Dying!
Sick riffing! This style of guitar playing was such a huge step up from the Nu-Metal that preceded it. Such a relief.
Hear me out: Trivium should do a whole album in Drop C/A Standard/Drop G
I NEED Level 10 song - it's simply majestic
0:05 you know it's about to get serious when you hear this in the left ear only
The "Riffing Chords" clip is the most Killswitch Engage-esque thing I have seen
Literally each one of these levels should be made into an individual song. Especially Level 10, holy crap.
I love how Matt plays those brutal As I Lay Dying riffs with the calmest face.
Matt Needs to just come out with early 2000's Metalcore or have a side project that is just early 2000's Metalcore
I would die for a Trivium EP where they just go full Ascendency throwback, just an ep doesn't even need to be a full album.
Love these videos, keep up the good work ❤️❤️
Awesome, love these types of videos. It's fun to mess about with genre specific techniques
200’s metalcore is what got me into metal in the first place. Demon Hunter, The Showdown, He is Legend, and Maylene and the Sons of Disaster were the fist metal bands I got into, and I still listen to them
Honestly 4,5,and 8 are things I miss the most in metalcore.
The pull off/hammer on section sounds so much like As I Lay Dying 🤣
Damn Nik, this was really, really good! I loved all the levels honestly lol. Having Matt Heafy up here, well, that's just icing on the cake. 🤘💪🎸
Matt seems to be very into it
Heafy always seems to be so focused, lot of respect for him
Also, a lot of this is more specifically the At The Gates-core/melodeath-core fork that metalcore took. Aka, the best metalcore ever was or will be.
Those Pinch harmonics were DOPE man!!! I struggle pinching on the lower strings. Great Job!
That 5-7-8 harmony though ❤️
matt heafy is a machine on the guitar dude just play everything perfectly
Dude I gotta say your humor gets better with age. Like a fine wine *swivels wine glass*
Great video and a solid collab. Keeping the 1s and 0s alive!
This is basically a video on how Protest the Hero wrote every song on Kezia
Insane riffs. Matt’s solo was amazing. This video hits in all the nostalgia feels🔥🤘🏻
Oh, this just feels like home, where you belong. Absolutely love it!
I like how every level had a increasingly ridiculous face on the top right corner
Started listening to post hardcore, metalcore, deathcore in 2008. Nearly 14 years later. And now I’m 25. Crazy man. Crazy nostalgia hearing this
Nailed every level with nostalgic excellence! Metalcore will always have a place in my heart ❤️
One of the legends of 2000s metalcore! Awesome video and amazing feature. Keep it commin!
Thanks, will do :D
The first ''Chug It'' brought such nostalgia in my heart.
This vid snapped me back to University times, listening to music on a diskman.
Working all day long, studying at the night, scavenging any new band we could find and playing with the dudes at the weekend.
Life was great.
That level 4 sounded an awful lot like "My Curse" Nik. I hope it's just a coincidence.
That was the point :)
Definitely some Reject Yourself in there too :P
I heard that too but man I want like a whole video on how to riff chords like that, such a sick sound that I've not mastered
i think sounded like live in love
Damn what a legendary collab !
Nik, how comes you haven't reacted to Bloodywood yet? Those guys slap.
He has reacted to both Gaddaar and Aaj in his twitch. Aaj is even in one of his Spotify playlist
Nik that was like a page right out of my late teens thru early 20's lol I still use these in my songwriting! Killer video bro
Thank you!
0:52 this the best part of metalcore I like most which is brought into mainstream by Killswitch Engage, All that remains etc. 2000's
Nik : 😃😡😌😤😬😩😛
Matt : 🙂🙁😠
This makes me want to hear Ascendency remade with Alex / everyone's new tone
5-7-8+ harmony, quick pull offs and hammer ons, and octave chords is the way go. Sounds awesome
Nik: The metal faces, the headbangs
Heafy: The zen
риффачок на 0:28 пиздатенький
Damn I love 2000's metalcore so much !
Likewise my friend
So basically ABRBs Allegiance album lmao.
Aaaand Fears/Phobias gonna be stuck in my head all day.
This is like my songwriting blueprint. Might have to recycle a few of these for some new songs. Keep 00's Metalcore alive
can you give me a song similar to that part? 2:31
Level 11 is code name for asking Alexandria 😂😂
Nothing more core than pull of riffs on the D string (F in drop C) like hand of blood, your betrayal and the end of heartache, wheedle deedul diddle diddle dum dum
#2 = Every old As I lay dying Chorus ever
#5 = The Classic As I lay Dying verse/intro
This is amazing! What a nostalgia trip, sounds like every song I ever try to play on guitar.
What you said in the beginning is exactly how I felt at the end. Late 90s to mid 2000s had an amazing range of metal
matts dissonant riff is fucking sick
Man what I would do for a Trivium EP where they go full Ascendency throwback. Even just an EP, just a crumb.
Incredibly good audio quality, the mix is perfectly done.
The octave chords gave me nostalgia
The 5-7-8 harmony just takes me right back to my teenage years 😂😂
Dude, that was awesome!! Thanks for the tips you guys! Y'all rock 🤘🤘
I'm gonna cry on level 4 is so beautiful
Not only is heafy a badass vocalist, the man shreds on guitar too.
He also shreds his social life with incredible… words during his streams.
Ah yes, Riffing Chords, my favorite Killswitch song.
0:52 it's like a mix between Gone (Miss May I) and P.O.W. (Bullet For My Valentine)
