The small-scale FASA kits were models meant to be used for their 'Star Trek Tactical Combat Simulator' game; it's still one of my favorites as the was a role playing element to it; there were three control sheets that could be divided up amongst multiple players: Command, Engineering, and Tactical. This helped give the feel of working on the bridge of a starship

Thank you Max for the STMHL - Star Trek Model History Lesson. I never realized there were so many kits made by so many companies. I still remember when I saw the first ST model in a store the year it came out. They only had an open kit left for display at the time. I was able to get one when I visited NYC that year. Could not wait to get home with it.

One that sticks out in my mind is the "23rd Century Pistol", or "Phazer II" as it is sometimes called, made by someone unknown, probably because they didn't have a license and didn't want to be sued. It's an accurate original series phaser model.

One Amt ertl kit that comes to mind was the fiber optic Enterprise D from the next generation.Kit came with small battery operated drill light bulbs and fiber optic strands.Amt also had a later lighted motion picture refit Enterprise that had flashing led lighting.You covered quite a bit but there are so many manufacturing different kits ,Aztec decals and photo etch detail parts that it really is very difficult to have an all inclusive 100% of everything.Thanks for another enjoyable and informative video!!
That's a lot more kits than I expected and especially a lot more companies than I expected. I had a few Star Trek models back in the day, the three piece adversaries kit with the Warbird, Bird of Prey and Marauder by AMT, the Maquis fighter by Revell, the beautiful Excelsior by AMT and another three pieces kit with a Voyager, Kazon fighter and Maquis fighter, though I don't remember who made that, AMT or Revell. But with all my kits from way back when they're long gone. Currently only have a Bird of Prey and a Vor'Cha by Metal Earth on my desk. Thanks for the overview, now I have a few more additions to my wishlist :-D

What a vast collection of models. Then there are all the die-cast models by the likes of Dinky. The only ones I have are the small Hot Wheels version which first appeared in 2013. There were both regular and battle damaged versions. This was one of the few Hot Wheels models without any wheels, it had a display stand instead. Great video.
Who else is surprised by the lack of Borg kits? So many Borg cubes and spheres as well as figures - Borg Queen, 7 of 9 and other drones - that could be released. Especially Borg drones as they don't have to look like any actor.
Technically if one gets enough sprue trees, one could do their own Borg cube. ;) I do recall a resin Borg cube being done once (possibly by Macro Trek). But it is practically impossible to find one.

I don't know if its relevant to your list, but there is the Eaglemoss (UK) collection of plastic and die cast pre built kits that came out from about 2014. These were originally sold as a 60 issue series being subscribed to or sold through newsagents (sellers of newspapers magazines, gifts etc) in Australia for about Aus$20 an issue), must have been a success as it just kept going, I gave up at 100 but I believe the series went on to about 170+, with just about every major and minor mentioned ship being produced. They also did larger scale special edition ship models and character busts for subscribers ( at extra cost) as the series of issues rolled out. Might be worth checking their website
One kit that you missed was based on the episode Space Seed from the original series. I believe it was made by AMT. You got their 1/650 Enterprise kit and a kit of the Botney Bay. They also did the same thing again but this time you got a couple of Tholian ships.
I had the 1st issue enterprise with the light , the Klingon battle cruiser also had lights. I had the bridge and the small 3 kit served tos. I have an odo and a few others. Great video cheers.

Cool that Trekyards has a kit love their channel and Facebook group. So many of these I wanted, had and broke playing with when younger. Still want a new model of the Enterprise A, Reliant and a Bird-of-Prey.
Like others I am amazed at how many kits were related to the Star Trek franchise. Although I enjoyed the various series I never had the slightest urge to buy any of the models being I was already consumed by assembling a 1/72 aircraft and armor collection. Kudos to a great video.
Wow. That's alot of models. I have both of the 1/350 enterprise's beautiful kits gig can really go crazy. I lost most of my light kit for the original series and that's why i never finished it. Alot of people say the 1/350 original series kit is molded off the master replicas pre assembled kit of years earlier..... either way what an awesome kit. I also want to build the refit that i have. I had the enterprise incident but lost interest when the drill bits broke. And did build the refit with lights kit. Fun times
Its just under 3 feet I am working on that now it's 33" inch I also have a second one to build with round 2 lighting kit the refit enterprise from the motion picture is 36" long have 4 of those when they first came out with the Aztec decals great kits still need the K'ting in the 1/350 scale

Pretty impressive list, especially trying to cover garage kits (the vast majority being unlicensed). Outstanding job! A couple minor clarifications, Platz in Japan did I believe three AMT reissues. The C and D were two of them and I "think" the Enterprise-B was the third. Revell of Germany's Trek license is only for Europe, so their new tool TOS Enterprise, Klingon and JJPrise (plus a reissue of the Voyager) have never been issued in the USA. Some vendors have been able to import them, but they are more expensive (and shipping costs are an issue if one tries to get kits from European vendors). As for the Moebius models U.S.S. Kelvin, it only had one release under the second box art you show. The first box art was only something they mocked up for the trade shows. A possible idea for another show could be Trek model kits used in Trek shows. The AMT 18" Enterprise kits used in TOS would be obvious ones. But TNG and DS9 made use of ship models before CGI took over around DS9 season 6 (although a desktop model or two may have made an appearance or two after that).
Great video Max and thank you for sharing. There really are a lot of kit variations in the Star Trek universe giving plenty of scope for builds. Rather drawn towards the DS9 or Voyager series myself. Now where did I put my stem bolts...
As I recall, AMT came out with an Interplanetary UFO kit that was supposed to have been marketed under the Star Trek license... or was it? Do you know what the deal was on that kit Max?
The UFO mystery ship was originally the Leif Erikson star ship with no glow in the dark parts.The kit was designed by Matt Jeffries as an addition to Enterprise and Klingon kits for AMT to sell.
Not trying to. It pick but there was also a three piece Voyager set at a smaller scale but in scale to each other. The set included the Voyager, the Maquis and the Kazon Cruiser.
Did you mention Polar Lights new 1:32nd scale Gallileo 7 shuttlecraft? And no love for the Leif Erickson class Galactic Cruiser? Not even a honorable mention :( While not technically a Star Trek kit the Leif Erickson was designed by Matt Jeffries at the request of AMT about 1968, it was sold right next to the Star Trek kits and some of the Star Trek kit boxes even advertised the Leif Erickson on the side of the Star trek kits. The kit was later reissued in glow in the dark plastic as the UFO Mystery ship. It has been been reissued several times. The original kit had the long neck attached to the hull. Later kits had the long neck detached. This was done due to complaints of the box size. The dies were retooled to make the neck separate so the kit could fit in the standard Star trek Kit boxes.

Paramount was pleased with Star Trek Continues and even gave the series some recommendations. Im not saying it should be considered a Star Trek ship. I think it should get honorable mention as a Star Trek ship that was never in Star Trek.

You think thats bad, go look and research "Star Fleet Battles" game system. its 30 years of revisions and reprints, etc. I am familiar with it, and I have a hard time figuring out which parts go with which revision. There were a lot of cast metal ships for table to play. Thanks for the video trip !!
That's right. The Tsakuda minis in Japan were reissues of minis originally offered by Zacchi for the Gamescience Starfleet Battle system. Task Force Games and later Amarillo Design Bureau repopped them for their own versions later. Now Starfleet Battles is a bit of a licensing oddball. They are licensed copies of the Franz Joseph Designs ships (tug, scout, destroyer and dreadnaught, plus the heavy cruiser, i.e. Constitution Class). But at least in the states they aren't licensed to Paramount. This is down to Paramount not really trying to trademark the Trek designs in the early 70s when Franz Joseph did the Starfleet Tech Manual. So the estate of Franz Joseph still has copyright on those unique designs.

I loved building klingon battle cruiser an d I had a uss enterprise not sure witch ones I had but I loved them. I had the one with the light but the light broke right away and the engines were warped bad wasn't impressed with that one.oh yeah live long and prosper

In 1995 AMT released the Enterprise-B. The AMT cutaway Enterprise was released in 1996 during Star Trek's 30th anniversary.

When you mentioned the Estes Enterprise, I wonder if the saucer section didn't help stabilize it? Hmmm.

I have built the old AMT USS Enterprise a number of times. The last time was the 50th anniversary kit! This kit is now so bad it's almost unbuildable!
The artwork at 8:21: Is it available for sale anywhere? Preferably as a vector file?
There was also those horrid Starcraft 1/1400 rock hard resin kits that Tamiya acyclic never stuck too.

@@maxsmodels- The Serenity would be a model I'd consider getting if it wasn't so expensive - especially if buying it from specialty Sci-fi model sites like "TV Cult Man".

I loved building klingon battle cruiser an d I had a uss enterprise not sure witch ones I had but I loved them. I had the one with the light but the light broke right away and the engines were warped bad wasn't impressed with that one.oh yeah live long and prosper
