    "Is there an EBrake?"
    "oh no, PLEASE dont use it"
    Sums up every 1990's car i've ever owned.

      Yeah, my buddy ripped the e brake in my 1990s escort and it took me 3 days to figure out what it fucked up.

    "Please don't use that" when talking about the E brake pretty much sums up most of the cars I've had in the past 20 yrs.

    This made me miss my first car. My father bought me a 1990 White SHO (First Gen) for my first car for my high School Graduation back in 1995. I was a little upset because I wanted a Mustang GT Convertible. But was happy enough my old man bought me anything after the way I behaved in school leading up to that moment. After a few nights of sneaking out and driving my SHO I was the chick who had the "sleeper"! The car was amazing for back then! And it came stock with a JBL stereo that actually sounded pretty good. And I had Black interior and a Sun roof! Mine was a manual also. And I burned the clutch up in the first couple months of owning it. I had thought it was my fault and so did my father. So he made me sit in July heat for two days and replace the clutch with him. Which meant dropping the front end completely just to get the Bell housing out. And while inspecting we had noticed (once again) that Ford used like a Topaz or Escort GT clutch. And it made no sense! (I said "again" because my father had a 1989 Silvery-Gold SHO and it's clutch died along with a series of other engine issues) So we put some sort of performance clutch in it and it was just fine after that. I also had an Escort EXP with the HO/Escort GT engine in it and it was manual too. It was a 1988 EXP. Which people thought was some eurostang. Basically I had to try and put my head up and say "It's an Escort,...GT"! Anyway, there were some fun cars to come from Ford at around this time period. And the SHO really is a classic that mainly car enthusiast remember.

    • @RoxanneBarbelo
      @RoxanneBarbelo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If you ever get the opportunity, do a video on the Escort EXP or Escort GT. They were fun cars and felt like they were indestructible! I used to buy Escort EXP and GT's from the late 80's at auctions and modify them as a prank against my nerdy friends who were Honda owners and liked to raced. There is nothing like getting beat by a $300-500 car! Anyway, the reason I even mention the Escort was because of the long history they have in Ford. And they are a classic! In fact the Franklin Farms, Herndon VA Starbucks has some young lady who works there that has a Excellent condition 1987 Escort LX!
      Happy Thanksgiving
      and
      Thank you for making such fun videos!

    I swear every mind-numbing boring-ass car would be better with a manual gearbox. My first car was a 1989 Camry with manual gearbox, for which I'm thankful. That car wasn't great, but it would have truly sucked with an automatic slushbox.

    It's fuel injected! Don't pump the gas? Clean out the throttle body. if that don't work Hook up up a fuel pressure gauge ! Check fuel system. I had 1989 & 1994 mtx. i know all about those Taurus Sho 's Awesome Cars !

    I had a green manual 92 SHO and it was a lot of fun. Though, they do have an issue burning through clutches. I recommend an electric cut out right off the cat (or replacing the cat, mattering on your state regulation). That Yamaha motor has an Indy/Formula style exhaust note when wide open. 100% worth it!

    • @OnTheRocks71
      @OnTheRocks71 7 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Look at a picture of the intake manifold. Each cylinder is fed with a long intake runner, and a short one. Above 3950rpm, two electronically controlled vacuum actuators would open a "secondary" set of valves in the intake plenums allowing air to get into the cylinders through the short runners. Long runners for better low rpm torque, short runners for better high rpm breathing. Some duratec motors had a similar system, but the buterfly valves were located right near the intake ports of the cylinders, and were opened with a electronically controlled cable.

    • @Patrick94GSR
      @Patrick94GSR 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      yep, my 1994 Integra GSR intake manifold is the same way - dual runner manifold with butterfly valves that open that short runners above ~5700 RPM.

    i drove that same car. it was also 5speed. the owner was a author from western prince edwars island. he cam to my place of work and i boldly asked to take it for a rip. He agreed and told me to drive it like i stold it or it would feel like any other manual Trans taurus. I was suprised it was quick although i knew the car had mass. his was the 3.2 manual. he though it was a 3.0 and didnt know that the trans depended on what engine was stuffed into it at the factory . my driving impressions were veried stuff clutch big cafm.excelleration was strong and smooth but if it were me i would buy a Dohc v624 valve contour i owned a sport and that was fun but not fast really. now i gave a Gti Mk7.dont get me wring the S.H.O kicks ass amd takes names but compared to today's cars it's average in performance but is miles behind in other as. This car is not a collection
    Piece yet, butI assure you of hat.

  • @Jasontyo
    @Jasontyo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    i Find it incredibly bizarre that the manual is considered less common in these. When i was a kid that is THE reason i knew this car existed. I knew a family who had two of them simultaneously, one auto, one manual. Then years later i worked with a guy who had a 5MT blue 1994 as his daily until it rotted out. maybe the sales numbers would say otherwise but i always thought these cars were much more common in manual.
    Also the 89 and 90 SHO is a very different looking car. Similar to the early DSM this car has a minor refresh after the first couple model years. I thought for sure the earlier ones were ONLY manual.
    Also the Yamaha engine has a neat little history you may not be aware of. It was originally developed to power a MR sports car to compete with the Fiero. When that project was scrapped Ford needed a car to put these already paid for engines into. SHO was born.
    I have fact checked nothing, this is how I remember it to be. I could be very wrong.

    Had two '91 Super High Output manual shift Taurus'. Yamaha V-6 'sidewinder.' Nice cars, 4 wheel discs which was Fords answer to BMW hi-po 4 doors. Fun ride. Only problem is no one in AZ owned one cuz when it's over 115-120 degrees, the TFI (thick film insulation) distributor electronics take a dump and you're stranded on I-40. Waiting for a "trucker" to kidnap you and your family. Not good in that respect. Watching you guys go through the gears while stopped is comical. Secondaries generally refers to the other 2 venturis on a 4bbl. carb.

      I remember when mine would get heat soaked, it didn't like restarting. I think it was due to the DIS module on the intake. Lots of weird ignition problems with these cars. Awesome failing crank position sensor. Failing cam position sensor. Spark plug wells full of oil from bad gaskets.
      When they worked right though, they were so much fun.

      aspiringcarguy when you don't use your ebrake often the lines will get gritty and you run the risk of having your ebrake getting stuck in the engaged position

    • @aspiringcarguy
      @aspiringcarguy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      aspiringcarguy given that this car in a manual he should be using the parking break very often instead of parking in gear.

    • @aspiringcarguy
      @aspiringcarguy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I always do both, but I don't drive manuals often

    • @HenryDoohickeyII
      @HenryDoohickeyII 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      aspiringcarguy I'll usually do both because there are a lot of hills in our town. Although if I'm in a flat parking lot I'll leave it in neutral with the brake up.

    • @digitalrailroader
      @digitalrailroader 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Jordan Wiley variable length intake manifold; because the long intake runners open up at 4,000 rpm like the secondaries on a 4 barrel carb.

    • @NoClassic
      @NoClassic 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      That motor has variable length intake runners. He is using the wrong terminology but I bet that is what he is referencing.

      Jordan Wiley actually has multiport injection....
      and the intake runners technically do have secondarys... where it eill also bring in some more fuel ofcoarse anyone with commen knowledge of ford would know this

    • @JorgeGarcia-ix5fz

    Those things are rockets even by today’s standards the insurance on these are very affordable because they’re not considered true sports cars I had tires blow out on two vehicles and one hit a pole at on an on ramp the other hit a wall on an on ramp so I can’t afford the insurance on a Mustang without winning the lottery but one of these would be well within my budget and these are everywhere on marketplace in mint condition ready to drive for a great deal my next vehicle will be my dream truck because it’s more affordable than I thought once that’s paid for I can get one of these because just insurance on two vehicles isn’t expensive the sho is extremely fast for its age and engine that Yamaha v6 is fast enough by itself to troll hellcats and demons on the quarter mile because the sho is even faster than them on the quarter mile it’s lighter and that Yamaha v6 is an absolute animal the sho is every bit as fast as a Fox body with the original 302 in it and that’s unreal the 302 is one beast of an engine it’s capable of outrunning hellcats on the quarter mile the sho can too factory sleepers are never expected to do what they do because they are meant to fool your opponent so when you fly past them on the quarter mile it surprises the crap out of them because they don’t expect to be smoked by a family car and when they find out they were trolled by a factory sleeper they are absolutely embarrassed that’s the goal of a factory sleeper to embarrass cars that are supposed to be fast Chevy boys don’t even know about the sho because all they know is Chevy some dodge people know about them Ford guys know all about this car so they will know what your opponent is up against before your opponent even realizes what it is so they will know your opponent is completely screwed owning an sho just like this one would be fun because I can daily drive it and then take it to the quarter mile and troll hellcats and demons and shock the crap out of them the hellcat only does 145mph on the quarter mile the demon only does 165mph on the quarter mile the sho is faster because it’s lighter than both of those cars and because of how high that Yamaha v6 revs it’s extremely fast all motor stock on the quarter mile it can probably do 175mph easily on the quarter mile that Yamaha v6 revs high enough to make that possible even stock it’s an absolute animal

      How often did you change the transmission fluid and filter on your car? Because if you went past 50,000 miles without servicing it there is your problem.
