Snubby .357 Mag...Much like a lighter .44 Mag revolver, the secret is to just let the muzzle come back down on target before trigger pressing again, and ignoring finger pain because the real mastery is being able to not flinch. Means rapid fire is slower, but that's okay because one shot from a magnum is about as good as 47 rounds of 9mm.
I agree with Yankee that .38 Special is the better way to go for most of your practice, but I personally think a good Buffalo Bore or Underwood .38 Special+P is a good medium between practice and more power for carry ammo.

My buddy wanted to carry his .357 scandium revolver as his backup, so our range officer made him qualify with it in full house loads. It's a short course of fire, only 30 rounds, but the pocket between his thumb and pointer finger looked like someone had hit him with a brick after he finished.

Quite right. One thing, though. For the 340PD S&W specifically says DO NOT shoot .38 special, minimum cartridge is .38+P. Since the 360PD is the same gun (aluminum alloy frame, titanium cylinder) but with external hammer the same constraint should apply.

Hearing damage from firing a magnum, or many magnums is unlikely unless it's close enough to the head to blow out your ear drum completely. While it WILL damage your hearing, think of your hearing as having a gauge of 1,000,000 notches. Shooting 5 shots of .357 Magnum brings your 1,000,000 down to like 999, 897. It's damage, but not enough to ever know in your lifetime.
My brother is the president of a hearing aid company. He's never had a customer come in complaining they shot a lot of guns now they can't hear, rather they are all people who worked in factories or at airports or other full time jobs with nonstop sound, even if that sound isn't particularly high in db's.

I agree with most of your points but I will say that practicing with a cylinder or two of 357 during my range visits has had a positive effect on my overall skills with a revolver. I can get lazy, not purposely, when shooting 38 special out of my all steel 649 and shooting the 357 magnum makes me focus more on the importance of my grip and posture.

    • @mx5ish
      @mx5ish 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

Even though you are not getting the full benefit, you are still getting a lot more out of the magnum than the 38+p in most cases. It is whether the extra velocity and power is worth the extra blast, recoil, and noise. It is not worth it for me. I carry 38+p in my snubs too.

I think in a 357 mag revolver I would just opt for lower powered 357's but it is cool that Buffalo Bore offers them for people ith 38+p chambered revolvers. I am sure you get the blast and recoil from them though (I've never tried them). There is no free lunch, so if recoil, blast, and noise is what the shooter is avoiding then it still wouldn't make sense. Buffalo also offers 357 specifically made for short barrelled revolvers which is super appealing.

Why have a sidearm that you are too scared of to become competent with ? A .357 mag snubbie is about the worst defensive sidearm that there is for most people. Main reason being , follow up shots. The weapon completely changes location in your hand every time you fire it. It is as loud as the crack of a lightning bolt and has the corresponding flash of said lightning bolt as well. Other than that, ITS GREAT !

true and your only going to need a few rounds if you should defend your self, it will only last 3 to 6 seconds and bad guys on average scatter after first hot, you will most likely be closer the 7 yards so accuracy isnt going to be a big issue, the context also is private citizen so you simply defend and take cover, you wont be chasing bad guys putting on cuffs or chasing in your car, so in that context is how it will be and outdraw your opponent using scoop draw and getting that first shot, its going to be loud and even if say you dont hit anything bad guys statistically dont stay for the gun fight especailly if you outdraw them the fear in them is who gets a bullet even if its a 5 shot revolver, in general no one likes getting shot or shot at, its not like john wick or walking dead that so many people watch saying what about muliple attackers and imagining situations that are more rare then slipping on a banana peel where your going to come out worse then your gun fight, millions of reports every year where citizen showed gun or shot once they all took off running, even your grand dads 22 revolver, proves that when you fight back with any gun as a private citizen they are almost always cowards, if not use cover and defend, dont be a idiot chasing bad guys out in the open, they want you then let them come to your tactical advantage

First, yanky will cut the video in where he blew his eardrum out with one shot from a 357 at an indoor range with one ear plug removed...i think that was about 5 years ago, right yanky? So the first thing you do is blow your eardrums out just to get that out of the way, because if you ever actually shoot a 357 2 or 3 inch revolver indoors or outdoors without hearing protection, there goes your eardrums. Even a 6 inch 357 with full power loads is insanely painful without hearing protection on...
45 acp will look like the best round to anyone that has ever shot a few rounds of 357 or 10mm without hearing pro on...even 40 s&w is a bit loud but doable...

I've made this argument to him before... he shot me down, but that may just be because it's me. 😅

If you are shooting a revolver with a barrel less than four inches, you have a mental problem.

If recoil is a problem, complain until the FBI declares 10mm too powerful, .40sw too powerful, and goes back to 9mm so your poor widdle wrists don’t get sore.🤣

In the past the civilian and police would compete head to head. The police got tired of loosing to civilians. Why because the civilians don't practice with duty ammo. The police do. Duty ammo is too expensive for practice.

Why can't you just use one hand to plug an ear and other hand to shoot 357 gun so you only go half deaf?

Daily topic, Smith and Wesson sucks .. two months ago I purchased a brand new 629 PC and got it home and realized the barrel was over tightened and off to the left . I immediately sent it back to smith and they had it for 8 weeks and it just arrived back today and it worse than when I sent it in. Not only is it still canted it looks like they fired 500 rounds of it. Came back with heavy draglines and filthy. Not sure what’s going on with smith and Wesson but I’m done with the brand. I lowered my standards from colt and bought that POS against my better judgement. Horrible Quality control, horrible customer service and apparently the gunsmiths are legally blind. The gun is being returned for a refund.

Nope. Carry a .357 snub is the dumbest thing you can do. Only gun I've ever owned that I will never shoot 357s through. Only 38s. On it's 2nd round the timing was off and it sent a piece of jacket into my cheek. And it was a performance center gun.

There you go again...screwing around with calibers that come nothing close to the .44 magnum...Go get yourself a Smith and Wesson model 29-2.

Hi Yankee. Do you think 30 Super Carry could be a good replacement for people that like 38 SPL if manufacturers can put one more round on the cylinder keeping the same diameter (maybe 7 or 8 rounds)?

30 Super Carry (which is weirdly a .32 caliber) has a higher chamber pressure than .357 magnum or even .327 magnum, so I don't think you are going to get more rounds with that. They tried this with .327 magnum, and it hasn't done well. Ruger's GP100 came in a 7 shot .327, but you can get the same gun with 7 shots of .357, so... meh. The recoil is too much anyway if what you are looking for is something close to .38 special's feel. You can look for an old .32 H&R magnum wheel gun or get one of the new S&W Ultimate Defense line revolvers in .32 H&R, but these are only going to be 6 shots in a normally 5 shot small frame gun. The ammo can be hard to get and/or expensive as well because it's no longer very popular unfortunately. ✌😕
