    So I think I finally cracked it
    Rhythm is the when
    Cadence is the how
    And the beat is like a dance partner, sometimes you lead, sometimes you follow and sometimes you move at the same time. Please let me know if I'm wrong.

      +Keeland Caldwell Yeah man thats it!
      Cole actually gave me some a real wise methaphor.
      That the rhythm is the rail on a roller coaster (The percussions)
      And the cadence/flow is how the roller coaster moves around/
      So its timing and how you say it :)
      That tip helped a lot!

      Ive been wondering the same thing. These young rappers in the 2010"s have no idea that studying rap is important. Thats why new hip hop these days are WHACK AS HELL and thats why a lot of them never come across videos like this . ColeMizeStudios videos is beneficial for those who want to be at the top in the rap game.

    You taught me about Fatback. Looking a bit into it online, I learned it was shipped to record stores a week before Rapper's Delight, with overlapping by a few days of copyright procedures. Thanks for the rap history lesson.

    • @ColeMizeStudios
      @ColeMizeStudios  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mike W Awesome! Glad to be able to teach you a little of Rap history. I didn't realize they shipped that close together. Was is the whole album that was shipped or just the single? I know due to how well the song took on their album "especially with it being a bonus track on side b" they re-released it as a single but not sure the actual time of the singles release. That's why I ask.

    • @didactic318
      @didactic318 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ColeMizeStudios I read the shipping info at songfacts.com/detail.php?id=26613. It seems it's talking about the singles. The copyright information is in a reference note on the Fatback song's wikipedia page. Not sure how both of those harmonize or if there's some misinformation or confusion in the shipping story.

    • @ColeMizeStudios
      @ColeMizeStudios  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mike W Yeah I see what you're saying lol I had read somewhere else that the Fatback album was released in the summer "and later released King Tim III as a single due to popular demand and Sugarhill gang released their album in December. Who knows? That will probably be an ongoing debate. Heck I wasn't even born then so I'm having to go off what I can find on the internet. I'd sure hate to give anyone misinformation. But thanks for sharing that article with me. I find music history and history in general fascinating :)

    Hey man cool vid as always, wanted to ask can any words go with any flow ? I know u have to put big or smaller words but I mean the way it sounds in your mouth (if that makes sense)

    • @ColeMizeStudios
      @ColeMizeStudios  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      FuMe Acap Thanks so much for watching and commenting! I greatly appreciate it! And thanks for another great question! Yes any words can go with any flow. It's all about timing and syncing it to the cadences. So you may say words differently than you normally would for example you may stretch a word out longer or speed it up depending on how you need your syllables to line up with your cadence. I am going to get into all of this in the near future. Once I move off the topic of Cadences "in my videos" I'm going to be talking all about lyrics and writing for a while :) But if you have any questions about Cadence that you feel I haven't covered yet please let me know and I will seriously consider doing a video about it. Let me know if my answer above was helpful to you. I hope you are having an awesome Friday! :)

    • @BastosFC2
      @BastosFC2 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep thanks man, I don't really know if it's about cadence but when I skip a measure to make a AAA rhyme scheme it kinda breaks all the energy I feel like the measure I'm skipping is taking forever lol any ideas ??

    • @ColeMizeStudios
      @ColeMizeStudios  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      FuMe Acap hmmm when you say "I skip a measure" are you saying that you're intentionally leaving a one measure pause in your lyrics but it seems it's taking to long and it's kind of Killing the energy?

    • @BastosFC2
      @BastosFC2 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah exactly

    • @ColeMizeStudios
      @ColeMizeStudios  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      FuMe Acap ok gotcha. Here is several ideas. A. You can shorten your pause by adding lyrics to lead into the next bar. B. you could add adlibs to the pause, or usually mixing engineers will give vocals an echo effect where there is long pauses in order to fill in the gap. Or C. You can leave the pause as is but make the pause have purpose. For example use it to create tension like when a tv show ends at the high point of the story Line and leaves you hanging until the next episode. You can do something similar to a pause and then pick the story line back up after the pause. I will make videos on stuff like this one I get to covering topics like song writing and structure. Let me know if this is helpful to you :)

    what I like to do is try and follow the drums perfectly with my cadences kinda like eminem on "like toy soldiers" (which u should use as an example).

    • @ColeMizeStudios
      @ColeMizeStudios  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vaughn Doyle Yeah I know exactly what you're talking about. The possibilities are endless! :) Eminem does a superb job of riding those drums like crazy!! Like you said Toy soldiers is a great example of this. I will definitely take your video suggestion into consideration. I've pretty much touched on all of the basics on Cadence "including riding the drums" at this point unless I can come up with a video that teaches techniques on cadence I haven't yet covered. "I'm all ears". If you have any more ideas please let me know. I greatly appreciate you watching and commenting. I hope you are having an awesome Friday! :)

    Hey Cole - I am struggling to identify the cadence patters. Is there an alternative method to identify these patterns in a particular song using tech?

    • @ColeMizeStudios
      @ColeMizeStudios  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not at the moment, I recommend doing it by ear and try not to overthink it. The graphs you see me use require a lot of work on my end and I'm doing it for teaching purposes only. But when I'm learning someone's cadence I'm strictly doing it by ear. I could scat for a few minutes off the top but it would take me hours to break down what I did. The main point here is, I recommend relying on your ears first not visuals. Think of the visuals as an aid, kind of like training wheels. But we don't typically make music using them, I just use them to help explain what people already created musically. I hope that makes sense. ✌😎 - Cole Mize

    Dude this idea is Amazing :)
    Study a song, mumble the lyrics, Until your comfortable with the flow. You don't have to memorize it word for word. Perfecto man!
    Now with your cadence, Are you just coming up with those off the top, or did you write those down?

    • @ColeMizeStudios
      @ColeMizeStudios  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eireee17 Hey sis! I am so glad to hear that you found this video helpful! and it sounds like you got the concept down pat! :) Well as far as my cadences on this video goes I just listened to "referenced" those songs I mentioned in the video as I learned their cadence. I then went back to the instrumental I used and practiced these cadences I just learned to that beat. I would go back and forth with this process as the beat I was rapping to was different then all the songs I was learning cadence off of. But I didn't write any cadences down I just memorized them from practicing so much. Do you write down your cadences? And are there any topics in regards to cadence that you feel like I haven't addressed yet and should make a video about? I'm double checking with all you guys before I move on to making videos about lyrics and writing. Thanks so much for all your support! Hope you are having an awesome Friday Eireee! :)

    Firstly, I love your work. You break down everything perfectly and have really invested a lot of time in this. I sincerely appreciate it. Do you accept donations?
    Two questions:
    a) I have been listening to rap for a long time. and have an insane amount of cadences in my mind...however when I try to create the cadences in real life, I dont know what gibberish words to use that at least imitate the syllables of the word to give me an idea. Du du pu pu du du doesn't translate well to words, dont include the syllables I want and sounds nothing like the gibberish that you spit. Weird question I know, but how do you scat over a track similar to the way you do?
    b) Understand that you need to stay on beat..this is easy matching syllables for 4th notes and even 8th notes, but how is it possible to match up each syllable to fast notes like 16th and 32nd notes? It seems insanely difficult..is it just a matter of practice? Is it a better method to get a feel of the rhythm and just try and make sure that your first and last syllable falls roughly on the first and last note?

    • @ColeMizeStudios
      @ColeMizeStudios  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Trip thanks for all of your kind words and support! Yes I accept donations at colemizestudios.com/donate and greatly appreciate any contribution.
      A. Try not to think of gibberish "scatting" by it's sound but rather just cadence. (they way your notes are dancing to the rhythm of the track) For example your scat could use certain sounding syllables that are completely different than the words you end up choosing but it will still sound perfect as long as your cadence matches the original cadence you came up with even tho the syllables are different.
      Watch my video on Translating cadences to lyrics to see all the other things to consider when doing this as well because it's a juggling act for sure! lol :) th-cam.com/video/HIRb0DhWoCw/w-d-xo.html
      B. Yes it really is just a matter of practice. The trick is to learn a cadence so well that you can rap it over any beat regardless of tempo and adjust your speed accordingly. Many people overlook how much practicing something in repetition place a major factor in their improvement. Learning techniques is only half the puzzle and practicing the techniques is what brings everything together which takes time and patience.
      I'm not sure if you are already aware but I actually offer a 1 on 1 coaching service on my website at colemizestudios.com/coaching If you're interested in working with me first hand on your personal development as a rapper then feel free to book a session and we will get the ball rolling.
      Thanks again for your support and always feel free to reach out with anymore questions you may have. I hope this helps! Much respect! - Cole Mize

    You know what's funny man.. My kids do this naturally and did when they started learning how to talk. I would watch them and they would lip sync with no sound then start mumbling. Mumbling what they understood was being said or now what's being sung. So I'll often hear my daughter humming the tune to a vocal line and then bust out a word here and there of it, trying to memorize it. So funny enough, I first learned about this technique from my kids! Interesting to know they learn the cadence of a word before the actual word and I'm assuming that's how accents are picked up in children. lol I've rapped and been songwriting for years but as they say, sometimes the Teacher must learn from the Student.

    • @ColeMizeStudios
      @ColeMizeStudios  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      CyX SenZe lol that's really cool man! Yeah at first I was kind of hesitant about sharing this technique about mumble gibberish aka scatting because "in earlier videos" because I never heard of any other rappers doing it per say. But since I began uploading videos talking about I've heard many rappers say they do the same thing! :) It's just not something we typically do in public forums :) So you just as am I is a teacher learning from the students. :) Thanks for watching and commenting as well. I sincerely appreciate the support bro! I hope this finds you well!

    • @ShogunHz

      Thanks and most def man. Yea, I know a lot of rappers that have told me about that technique when I started rapping or when I asked them about their techniques. Keep up the great work bro. One thing I learned being a vessel of God is sometimes we just have to share without judgement or discretion because the message isn't for us but for others. You never know how it will relate or connect with others in one form or another.

    • @ColeMizeStudios
      @ColeMizeStudios  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      CyX SenZe Thanks bro I will do my best! and you're exactly right! I've learned the same thing as well :) It's amazing how that works. It's often a subtle unction and if we aren't paying attention we may overlook it or just disregard it as being insignificant.
      but it's incredible how when you do follow through with those unctions how it helps and touches people in deep, profound and even sometimes life changing ways more than we may be able to comprehend ourselves. God is good and i'm just glad to be a vessel :)

    cadence has become easy but filling them with good substance is hard,any advice?

  • @theskeletongroup5786
    @theskeletongroup5786 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    so cadence is actually being yourself on the mic wich becomes your own personal cadence right?

    • @ColeMizeStudios
      @ColeMizeStudios  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +The Skeleton Group Think of cadence as just 1 part of being yourself on the mic. Cadence is basically how you move around on the beat in rhythm. Delivery is how you sound, you're tone, you're emotion, you're feeling. I hope this helps :) - Cole Mize

      ColeMizeStudios So whats the difference between flow and cadence? Because i thought thats what flow was. I thought flow was how u move around the beat, delivery was ur tone and emotion, and cadence was something else? Im lost. Help me please. Im really tryna master being an Emcee.

    • @theskeletongroup5786

      KMEL FRANCIS he doesn't know what he's talking about 😂everything he described is just being yourself basically

    • @theskeletongroup5786
      @theskeletongroup5786 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      KMEL FRANCIS he's confusing you...just be yourself..when you do that it actually has a mixture of all 3..apply things from your favorite artists but don't make it obvious...also check out my channel and join us👌

    • @ColeMizeStudios
      @ColeMizeStudios  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +KMEL FRANCIS you're correct, flow and cadence is the same thing. Bars and measures are the same thing as well, it's just two words we commonly use that mean the same thing so don't let that confuse you. And you're correct about delivery as well. You're not lost bro you got it! :)

  • @frankjust3946

    Can I have different cadence on every bar? Or should be the cadence still the same in one track?
    Thanks!

      You absolutely could do that. Switch it up as much as you want. Just make sure it sounds good. There's no Rules in rapping only techniques so have fun and be Creative! :)

    It'd be crazy to enforce a prohibition on biting flow. 99% of rappers are biting the style of the other 1%. No one cares. Only thing that's really whack is biting lyrics, and rappers do that too, and say it's allusion / homage.
    Btw, love Slippin. I already got that in my playlist of best rap songs. Don't know why everyone sleeping on it.
