This was a very weird event. The three clearly best players tied 2-4 and the winner is a prodigy who's good, but clearly neither ready nor the current best. (Don't get me wrong, but 1) nobody would say Gukesh is better than Fabi, Hikaru or Nepo, head to head, at the moment; 2) Gukesh is not even in his 'finished' form and it feels strange that a player could become WCC before reaching his peak/prime.)
Having said that and as heartbreaking as it is, Fabi brought this one upon himself by spoiling the win a WCC definitely should've converted, so that's a glimpse of fairness to this mess.
Anyway, two more years of a random world champion. Thanks, Magnus.

Wow talk about undermining the huge achievement of a 17-year old, that too against all odds! The very fact that Gukesh won the tournament over all of the other candidates shows that he is ready and is currently one of the very best, he certainly doesn't need your validation.
Also, there is no random world champion. Idk what your criteria for being a bona fide world champion is but neither Ding nor Gukesh (potentially) are just random chess players.

That being said, you claim Gukesh doesn't need my validation, yet you go out of your way in his defense. ;)

@@maferreira1984 thank god the world doesn't work with your logic otherwise football fans or literally any other sport would have started riots saying that the team needed to be clear number 1 or 2 along with winning the world cup/championship to be bona fide world champion.
In today's age, ratings are always inflated and they are hardly a good metric to determine who is better. The obvious example - Alireza literally farmed his way up and ended up having such a poor tournament. These top players only ever play invitationals to keep their ratings in tact.
I go out of my way to defend him because I'm a chess fan and it's incredibly disrespectful to undermine the success of a player who not only won the tournament but was also undefeated against the players you are praising - Hikaru, Fabi and Nepo. Keep huffing copium, maybe that will help.
At this very moment, of course I'll bet on Gukesh. He was never positionally or tactically in trouble the entire tournament unlike all the other players, including the ones that you mentioned. And the only loss he had was mostly because of time trouble. So yes, I do have my answer.
