There were so many great little details in this finale. The silent shootout sequence in the depressurized corridor was so intense, and it was just one of many. Dani makes her decision not to wait her turn, Tracy telling Gordo she makes the suit sing, Margo wrapping the number around a Tootsie Roll, the run on toilet paper at the stores, Sally Ride pulling out her piece, and those empty rooms with TVs playing the handshake. A lot to talk about, and I will follow up with a season 3 questions video in the next couple of days. Let me know where you’re at on that.
1. the trailer for S2 was fake with 12-20 marines on rovers with guns (i thought that was gonna be the finally battle/siege). 1.5 fake trailers/scenes are common now with modern tv shows. or they just skipped/deleted that part of the show 2. Why Panama is so important in this timeline the Suez cannel is still closed so alot shipping traffic is coming through it. 3. we are never told why its so important to retake that cosmonaut or why he's defecting is he Christian/Jewish or just want a better life American Hamburgers. 3. IRL The Soviets had Generals/Colonel defecting all the time that it wasn't that big of a deal. 4. The Soviets weren't acknowledge the mining claims by the U.S,A. 4.5 which started the marines bring guns to the Moon to reclaim their mining site. 5. we aren't told if the truth about gordo's episode on the moon is told/leaked. 6. the last part with the russians i didn't get/have subtitles on so i'll have to go back and rewatch it.
I cheered when JSC said Gordo and Tracy had made it back to the airlock but I was worried why they didn’t show it, but my heart sunk when we actually see what happened. Their storyline was the best of the season.
Yeah, I didn't think that they were going to make it and was shocked that they actually got back to the airlock. I didn't want them to die but at the same time it would've totally destroyed any realism had they survived. I was expecting them to just kinda lean back against the outer walls of Jamestown, leaning on each other as they watched the sun and have a fade out/white out that way to show that they'd died. One thing I did notice on her tombstone is that they'd awarded Tracy the CMH along with Gordo, which I have to figure that they either: A. made a special provision for her being a civilian since she did go out into hard vac with Gordo to save the base, or B. Astronauts are allowed to earn military awards and decorations in this timeline because of all the work they do for the military or something. Or combination thereof.
I went into it fully expecting someone is going to die. Maybe more than one person. I'd say Ed was prime candidate, or either Gordo or Tracy, hell I'd even expect some random death for Karen before I expected both Stevens would die.
@@CrazyChemistPL I expected Gordo to have something happen, but prayed that it wouldn't, especially after everything he went through and struggled through.
I've seen vids both animals and humans tried in a vacuum chamber, survived, but that is in stationary, running 25meters and back is a different thing, suicidal mission. I'm sure some TH-camrs will context it.
I have never cried so much over the death of a character as over the death of the Stevens. I was so shocked by this scene that I thought they were just unconscious. But when they showed the funeral ... I burst into tears ... A truly beautiful, but truly tragic ending
@@OldSchoolMinded I agree, realism is above this, but it's still very sad to see two beautiful characters that you fell in love with during this season die.
I found it incredibly sad. They just said “I love you” to each other and they then had to save the whole moon. The hardest part for me to watch was the blood coming out of them while they were running. I’m still in shock and still feel sick to my stomach over their death. Sorry for going off a little bit there. I just really fucking loved the Stevens. It was really hard for me to watch.
Dammit gordo and Tracy. I wanted them to have a happy ending and people are like, "but they died together" My partner said their son was reaping karma for sleeping with Ed's wife - no chill
@@mr.mysteriousyt6118 even if they had repressurized (and I believe they did) their injuries would have been terminal. Their internal blood would have boiled due to lack of pressure and the resulting bubbles in their blood when they got back inside would have caused embolisms in their organs. So if they didn't die quick, they would have died slow(er) from their injuries anyway.
@@JMChladek during the handshake Frank Sedgwick gets word the reactor is stabilized and the air lock is pressurized and says they made it back and molly lets out huge sigh of happiness
I wish Danny saw him crying and approached like she did but instead of hugging him she looks at the casket and with a sad serious face says “Bye Bob” And Ed snickers for a tiny moment without losing his sadness or breaking eye contact with Gordo’s casket, like the quick exhale you make when you try and suppress a laugh. Or Ed reacts with a hint of a tiny smile on one half of his face.
I cried so much at the end you can see how hurt Ed was I wish Gordo didn’t die he became my favorite and Tracy got my respect at the end but the ending scene going to Mars I can’t wait
@@ryanschweikhardt you telling me to grow up I just a fucking teenager that love space travel and the moon and loves a great show let me just be a fucking teenager
You nailed it perfectly! I love your comment. I've watched 4 series now with Michael in it, and each one gets better and better. I'm so pissed that they killed him off. On to his next show. I will watch seas 3 but not with the same intensity of interest and excitement.
Gordo's and Tracy's ark was a real one-two punch in the gut... I thought they were not gonna make it for sure, but when they made it to the airlock I had some hope. It made me mad knowing they died because of the military people were keeping secrets from their own astronauts and taking stupid risks with the second reactor...
They just need to explain how do you fit 2 fission reactors in a 3 room base and keep one fission reactor a secret along the way. I guess no one stopped and asked "Yo, John, what's that thing that's installed around the corner?", and NASA that has sensors for the entire base, simply missed that there is a whole bloody extra reactor there.
@@Wustenfuchs109 RIGHT!? Like how big is this freaking reactor and where is it? Did they bury it or something and then just neglected to tell anyone about it?
In case someone didn't notice: in the scene were they are at mission control and the alarm goes on on the paper with the schematics of Jamestown you can actually see the planned future modules. So we've already got a sneak peak on what Jamestown is gonna look like in season 3.
@@sjTHEfirst No, not really. It wasn't actually that big. It's really hard to describe it. I suggest you go watch the scene. And we also really don't know if this is really the final design for Jamestown in season 3. I think it's only meant to give us a small sneak peek and get us hyped about season 3.
9:44 when they were showing the empty rooms, I had a feeling of dread because it was so quiet and I was just waiting for the bright flash of a bomb going off in the window and the world to end.
This show needs to stop killing the best characters! Gordo was my all-time favorite, I cried as hell when they died. What a finale! Can't wait for season 3
@SmithandJones256 they did mention Apollo 1, where 3 famous astronauts died and they were real life people not fictitious, most of the characters are not real but the tragic things really happens, or will be, let's pray it won't.
@SmithandJones256 Are men not allowed to cry . It’s funny how you Americans love freedom so much but get mad at a few men expressing their emotions . Go back to drenching yourself in beer and cigarettes , perpetually feeding your alcohol dependency you sad man .
@@EKFiPod no but you don't understand how much rage, hostility and loathing deprecation I have against Karen for her betrayal especially when she slept her dead sons Best friend
I can watch Tracy and Gordo saving the moon - shining city on the hill of Apollo-Soyuz - Ed shot down Sea Dragon - everything deescalates - funeral sequence 100 times. So God damn moving. The missing man formation, dammit. I forgive all the Karen/Danny drama. It's such a roller coaster from anxiety overload to pure genuine happiness to deep deep sadness.
Karen is just a mess. I thought she finally came on her own by the end of the first season but... I mean Ed is to blame in at as well, while he loves and cares about her, but he doesn't realize she requires more sensitive approach. He defaults to his tough love attitude (like when he puts Gordo back into flight rotation and tharsh talks him to motivate him to turn his life around) but that doesn't work for Karen.
i didnt get why THAT song started playing cuz it was not from that decade, but then when i saw the boots 🥾 on the surface of Mars and it said 1995 i was like OHHHHHHHHHHHH
Thing that pisses me off is that all of this could of been avoided if Webster and her marines weren’t trigger happy and shot the cosmonaut. Also the DoD trying to build nukes on the moon very stupid.
Producing plutonium on the Moon makes zero sense to me. What do you do with it? Manufacturing a bomb or other delivery system is challenge enough on Earth.
The only use for nuclear materials on the moon is reactors to power Jamestown and other bases or as fuel for nuclear powered spacecraft: NERVA, VASIMIR, Orion. As a weapon launched from the Moon could hit anywhere on Earth but would take literally days to cross the distance. Even as a final retaliation weapon it would be poor because the long travel time would make interception very possible.
@@DaveKD actual nuclear rockets could go from the moon to earth in hours and not days. the only reason why normal spacecraft take such a long time is because of G's and all the life support systems and such.
The season finale was beyond my expectations and I expected a lot. I felt bonafide terror when the EBS "This is not a test" card came on the TV with the sirens blaring. It was amazing to see how several individual decisions changed the course from nuclear war to peace, the arcs of the characters paying off really well. Trace and Gordo's deaths was a gut punch, they were 2 of my favorites, but it was played out great.
@@PetePeppers1 I was a kid at the very end of the Cold War and we still practiced 'Duck and Cover' due to a high value strategic target in my city so I have always been fascinated with Cold War history. Probably part of why I find this show so compelling.
Absolutely gripping final for this season. Guess this was "The Red Wedding" Season for this show... Spoilers: Didn't expect them to kill off both of their main actors.
I was shocked when I saw both of them dead. I probably thought they would make it back to earth really injured or something. At least seeing them in the hospital hoping for a recovery in season 3.
I feel like people overplay the red wedding. It wasn't shocking for me at least, the show already established that it'd kill main characters but if we're being honest we all know the main main characters weren't going anywhere
Tracy was a civilian though isn't the Medal of Honor a military award? Cutoff, when Karen is laying the flowers, is 'NTIAL MEDAL' which would seem appropriately to be the presidential medial of freedom
@@aquamonkee there's real life equivalent of astronauts getting the Medal of Honor for their service. Also, Jamestown had military personal under military command and there's also a precedent for civilians receiving the medal for the same reasons
I must say, For All Mankind is one of the best TV show ever. I was hardbroken for Tracy and Gordo, but their heroic death was a great end to their character arc.
The scene where the crews of the two shuttles make eye contact really reminds me of the movie "By Dawn's Early Light" in the ending scene. I don't want to spoil but highly recommend the film
I know exactly which scene you mean. By Dawn's Early Light is one of my favorite movies with terrific performances by the entire cast. I still love that quote from Cassidy, the B-52 pilot to Moreau, his co-pilot "If it is for real, then it's 'Planet of the Apes, darling'." Pretty much says it all about an all out nuclear war.
I really liked Gordo and Stacey’s story arc this season. Honestly, I wasn’t sure about it at first but by the finale it really paid off both the characters and was also deeply heartbreaking. I didn’t even want them to ‘get back together’ in a sense, but dying in an embrace after all they went through was so powerful. I teared up and even tear up just thinking about it. Almost like the embraced bodies frozen in time like they found at Pompeii in their last moments. And they looked so lifeless. Really hit me in the gut. I had to rewatch that scene of them running as their suits are deteriorating. Just wow
Yeah, they nailed it. Their have been a few disjointed moments over the two seasons, but I have got to give them credit, that was a nicely done finale. The payoffs were super solid, and nothing felt unnatural- the character development and plot worked exceptionally well together. Your breakdown was on point. IMO, the best episode of the series.
The Tracy/Gordo story was handled to my satisfaction even though I had a feeling they would have to sacrifice themselves to save Jamestown. The episode really drew upon the excruciating tension the world experienced during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The language was the same too as the Soviets emphasized that it was a Quarantine due to the Americans introducing weapons to the Moon while the Americans called it a blockade, which is an act of war. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, US Destroyers were dropping non-lethal depth charges on the Soviet submarine, B-59. The sub was not in contact with Moscow and didn't know the situation. The captain wanted to torpedo the US carrier with a nuclear-tipped torpedo. Vasili Alexandrovich Arkhipov refused to consent to prevent an escalation that would have led to the exchange of nuclear weapons between the USSR and the West. The writers were inspired by this real-world event to have Ed defy orders and destroy the Sea Dragon which helped defuse the confrontation. Nice to see actual history used to inspire the alternate timeline's reality. Too bad they couldn't give us a look at John Lennon's Madison Square Peace Concert. Well, Well, Well will have to do. “Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.” I'm ready to see what is to come in 1995. Let's go explore the Red Planet!
If it was on Netflix or HBO I feel like it would be huge. Apple+ is just too niche. The Morning Show is another one I think would be massive on some other platform.
I started watching season one yesterday, and could not stop. I am now crying as I just finished season two. I was moved, elated, sad, worried, my emotions were all over the place. Man I haven’t felt this way since “ lost” I felt like I was there. Anyway back to reality 👍 up this is binge worthy.
I had instant nightmares the night after the finale. Watching Gordo and Tracy die somehow became the most horrific scene I've ever experienced on t.v. Man I loved that couple!
Ok, here's my question for you. Why didn't they just pull the dead astronaut and cosmonaut from the unpressurised corridor? They would have gotten two slightly shot up suits to patch up with tape. The first thing that comes to mind for me is that they couldn't unpressurise the segment they were in, so they couldn't have safely done it, but I would have liked it of they at least considered it.
I said that too ...do the tape thing and exhale etc then drag suits in ....even just 1 suit would do....then patch with tape ...even just using the radio to call another suited person to do it. But maybe there wasn't enough time??? They wouldn't need much time at all to drag in the 1 body outside the door.
@@micart79 From what I read they wanted to kill both them off as they felt their stories were complete and probably they didn't have much for them to do in s3. Really baller way to go, maybe wish it would have been done with a bit more thought behind it.
They probably wouldn't have had the time. Depressurising, repressurising and then depressurising again takes a long time, many hours at least. On the other hand, it seemed to go pretty quickly during the Apollo-Soyuz docking, but that just equalising two already pressurised spaces. From the moment they realised the situation and what had to be done, Tracy and Gordo didn't waste any time. Not even for a final smoke or a quick kiss or embrace, before sacrificing their lives in a desperate mankind saving mission with hopeless odds.
They could have just mentioned it and said no time for that. I don't recall if they stated how much time they had. It's an inconsistency that puts a damper on shows. It's still one of my favorite shows, first being The Expanse then Star Trek.
A)Because the corridor was unpressurized and would have lead to the depressurization of the galley. They would have died if they tried it, because it would have taken too long to attempt to open the door and then repressurize it (if repressurization was even a possibility since the galley wasn't supposed to be depressurized as it was the original main room to the Jamestown base)there also isn't a guarantee they could get that door closed again. B)The door opened OUTWARD, and Vance and the dead cosmonaut were laying in front of a door that would be hard to open due to the depressurized corridor as it was. C) they only had 45 minutes before the meltdown started by the time they got into contact with Houston and knew they needed to do something (Margo said 45 minutes I think) D) the suit Vance was in, was shot more than once as was the cosmonaut suit and therefore wouldn't have provided any extra protection than the duct tape, even if they taped it (especially if any shots hit the helmet). Look what happened to the Cosmonaut suits when they were shot near the mine and the other Marine who was shot but lived. E) Gordo mentions to Molly that the Soviets shut down the base comms, meaning they had no way to communicate with anyone. Their only comm was with JSC, and that didn't link into the suits anymore because all comms for suits and such ran through ops comm (where the invasion occurred)
Just watched the season 2 finale (after being watching whole series over the last week) tear jerker for sure! Overall a great series, WORTH the subscription price alone!
I was rooting for the Stevens so much but it was realistic that they wouldn't survive that. I was so sad since I didn't want Gordo to die like the insiders say but I really didn't expect Tracy to die. Overall this whole season was amazing and the show itself is amazing I can't wait for season 3 and im so curious to what will and would happen in season 3.
@SmithandJones256 Real men don't flinch from hetero-toxic masculinity and will still cry or feel as human beings with real emotions beyond "beer! tits! guns! I'm no1!" mentality 👍
Two things, one, I totally agree with you on the old tv look. I felt like that gave the funeral a simple little touch. Second, thank you for making these reviews and the amount of details! Looking forward to season 3!
Gordo’s redemption arc was amazing, and that scene was the best in the season. But it was bugging me because they could’ve temporarily depressurized and grabbed Vance from outside the door and patched his suit with duct tape. The damaged suit would’ve given Gordo plenty of time to do everything and make it back alive.
If they grabbed the suit, it would've been an unnecessary risk. There's no guarantee they would've been able to depressurize, haul a heavy body in which would take quite a while, and then repressurize without losing too much air and suffocating right there and then. They'd die just by trying to do that, especially cause the door opens outwards and the body was right in front of the door. So you add onto the fact that you have to grab a grown mans body and push and pull a heavy ass door while pulling the body in? No, it wouldn't work.
Just finished season 2 and watching your vids to look for anything I might have been missed. RIP Gordo and felt really bad for Ed. Guy lost his best buddy.
imho. I think season 3 will develop toward private enterprise entering the space business. How difficult it will be to manage a colony built from nothing with private interests, espionage or greed even? When Karen and Danny were in bed talking together, she mentions that the first person to sell tickets to space will make so much money. At the ending of season 2 she's going back to college to study business....just saying, my own humble opinion
@@xyinterrupted Good point! We also can't forget about the teaser with the Russians planning to use Margo for their own nefarious plans, whatever they will be...
Damn this finale is a masterclass in writing. The set-up, build-up, and pay-off is so suspensful and finally rewarding. RDM is a genius. So many Star Trek cameos in this season. EXCITED FOR MARS 1995.
Moore is super talented. But don’t forget there are eight other writers on the series (most of whom are also producers).., working in very collaborative ways.
When the scene cut to the funeral there were three coffins, though wasn't there four astronauts who died on Jamestown? Gordo, Trace, Vance, and the other astronaut that got sucked into space.
The astronaut that got sucked into space when the russians attacked, wasn't he saved and then held hostage by the russians? They offered to exchange him for the defector.
The Pathfinder crew crucially prevented escalation to Mutually Assured Destruction, but in a way that will remain secret and awkwardly followed the Apollo-Soyuz breakthrough. So I say give Dani Poole a goddamn Medal of Honor for pulling the superpowers back from the brink of war by publicly defying orders at the best possible time. And a promotion for thinking ahead of her bosses. And Ed Baldwin? Give him Bradford's job.
Really great video! Chekhov's gun (Чеховское ружьё) - "If in the first act you have hung a pistol on the wall, then in the following one it should be fired ..." The airlock, of course. Foreshadowing danger which is required to move the story.
I for one am really going to miss seeing Tracy and how cold they kept it at Jamestown. In all seriousness, FAM is the best sci fi being aired today. Bar none. Not the Expanse, None of the trek series, Not the Mandalorian. This is the best sci fi because in the end this is a good show first and the sci fi is bonus.
Being a really big fan of both Star Wars and Star Trek, I must say, The Mandalorian was epic in a fun way, and none of the current Star Trek shows even come close to FAM and give any intriguing stories...It is true though, FAM is a really freaking good tv show...I hope we get more seasons after season 3...I absolutely love this show
Pete it was a great season and you did a tremendous job with these videos. You really safe Twin Peaks season three for me and I’m eagerly awaiting what show you decide to watch next
I’m late to this series but this is my favorite episode so far, I was sad when they were found dead since they were really good characters from the beginning. I was shocked by the transformation of the guy that plays Gordo since he looks completely different from one season to the next. This is a really good show and I’m glad that I can binge it. I’m looking forward to see where it goes.
Damn that episode was crazy. The first 3/4s was so tense I could barely move. I figured Tracey and or Gordo would die, but I hoped they didn't do it in a bad way, like them getting shot, or caught somewhere during depressurization. I think the way they went out was really moving. Also Nirvanas "Come as you are" at the end there definitely signals we will be seeing a time skip to the early 90s.
As a guy who went through the real cold war at the sharper end of the sword, you don't know how close we came to nuclear annihilation in such a similar manner. Too close, too many times.
Able Archer '83....the Soviet shoot down of KAL 007 were a couple of instances that stoke the flames during this period. United States deployment of nuclear tipped Tomahawk cruise missiles and Pershing II MRBMs didn't help the peace cause....even though they were meant to counter Soviet SS-20. I was in Italy at the time and 16 years old at the time wondering if humans would make it out of the 20th century. I joined the Navy in 1986....then the cold War ended and as 22 year old breathed a sigh of relief. Now we have wanna be Soviet Premier Putin trying to bring back the good old USSR.
I have never seen this show... never even heard of it. I'm here because another video talked about the probability of the duct tape spacesuit working and I wanted to know about the show. All that said, your season 2 recap is excellent! Coming from zero information, I was able to follow with ease. I'm impressed with the rollercoaster story and your ability to summarize and theorize. (*I wonder if anyone remembered to retrieve their colleague from the bunker.)
I really liked season 1, was a bit skeptical about season 2 because of the first trailer i saw (too "action movie" for me), decided to watch it anyway and i have no regrets doing so, feeling it's even better than season 1. For the mars mission in 1995, we can't know which side the astronaut is, but i would love to see it happen in the middle of season 3, like they did with the sea dragon launch in 1983 with actually happen on the middle of season 2.
I think the Russians will make it to Mars first. In the ending scene, the boots were the same ones the Soviets had on while raiding Jamestown. The suit has the same blue stripe on the leg too.
In 1995, the USSR has disappeared, this alternative history does not solve for the Russians, the reasons that will cause their fall. So I wonder where we are going to go, talk about the history of Russian-Nasa cooperation? Russia of Boris will try to take Margot while Russia has become poor?
It was kinda weird how Tracy's husband Sam was nowhere to be seen in the funeral. But nonetheless I teared up during the scene Ed and Karen paid respects to their fallen friends. A fine finale indeed. Third season has got be interesting with humanity finally reaching Mars, and I couldn't help but to be reminded of The Expanse.... I love both shows and apparently both of them are gonna involve Earth and Mars being important pieces of their respective universes.
Sam was actually shown for like a second or two, being present there, on TV broadcast. As for later, more private gathering with Baldwins and Stevens brothers, yup, he wasn’t there - maybe he left while earlier, who knows! Anyways I agree, great finale we unfortunately saw coming [but I didn’t personally think they both gonna die :( ] As for Mars, I love it! I’m hoping it will not turn into second Moon with almost identical scenario, but we shall see, all we can do now is wait, but oh man, that’s gonna be longer wait than we would wish! Should I watch The Expanse in meanwhile, is it comparable to FAM? Need something to fill up this gap I guess 😅
A spectacular finale with, of course, some tears over Gordo and Tracy not making it. I wasn't a Reagan fan but I actually could envision him, after watching the handshake and realizing the US and USSR were on the brink of a no-win nuclear war, calling Andropov from Air Force One and saying he's coming to Moscow to talk. And of the course the final scene setting up Season 3 was great. Ronald D. Moore has said that the series potentially has a seven season run, jumping a decade in each one. Can't wait for number three to air.
I lived through all that IRL. I was thirteen when we landed on Moon. My dad worked high security for a subcontractor to JPL in communications for spacecraft. I sat every week with him to watch Star Trek. It's a personal pain for me that humanity never progressed as we'd imagined back then, and that now, the future of space flight is in the hands of narcissistic billionaires. This finale had me in tears from start to end. Part of that was the very real possibility we could have ignited mutually insured destruction. Maybe we dodged a bullet. What if there were no Doritos?
Narcissistic billionaires? You’ve got to be joking, right? Since when did it become arrogant, self-centered, or lacking of empathy to want to advance space exploration? To make us humans an interplanetary species? Take Elon Musk. When PayPal was sold to eBay in 2002 he received 165 million USD. What did he do? He put it all in SpaceX and Tesla with the goals to advance our species technology. Had he been even remotely narcissistic he would probably have put it all in stocks, as to maximize profit.
in OUR universe it didn't. But they discover when Buran is close to launching that somehow the Soviets got ahold of US shuttles plans that pre-date them finding the O-Ring issue. Just because OUR worlds Buran didn't use O-Rings, doesn't mean theirs wouldn't have initially. Its not called ALTERNATE HISTORY for nothing.
This episode screamed WE HAVE MORE SEASONS SO WE NEED TO IMMEDIATETLY de escalate all the tension and storylines we just built up... It had about 4 or 5 possible Opportunites for some insane turns, and they took every single one and just gave it an easy out... amazing show, but I don't think I've ever seen WE CANT END THE SHOW YET so hard
18:34 it's a blue stripe on the pants, it's a cosmonaut, russian won. 3:25 for comparisons on the cosmonaut suit. Russians have a long stripe on the pants, astronauts have red rings not stripes. So there you go.
I'm wondering if the USSR is still going to be around in Season 3. There will definitely be changes without the war in Afghanistan and the absence of Reagan from 1984 onwards, but I'm also wondering if Chernobyl is still going to happen - it had a big impact on the Soviets. Andropov opened things up to criticism, but refused to change from the command economy established by Stalin. A reformer like Gorbachev, or the man himself, might come along to do reforms to the USSR without the constant pressure Reagan exerted on them in OTL (Our TimeLine). I can't see any of OTL's figures in the USSR, even Gorbachev, reforming the Soviet Union as Deng Xiaoping did in the PRC in OTL. Gorbachev's reforms were meant to prop up the centrally planned economy, not transition to market socialism, and all his free speech and democratization policies were unpopular with officials in the Communist Party. If Gorbachev comes to power without undue pressure from the USA and a drag from a war in Afghanistan, the USSR could plod on into the 1990s as a second rate economic power compared to OTL's PRC, but I can't see the Warsaw Pact surviving unless Gorbachev is removed from power in a quiet coup. Boris Yeltsin will probably remain a radical unknown. Putin might begin his ascent politically during the 1990s that might see him as a candidate for General Secretary during Season 3 and he might put himself across as the sort of market socialism reformer for the USSR that Deng was for the PRC in OTL.
Maybe. It's possible that the continued competition between the USA and USSR in the Space Race of the FOA TL could have led Mao to give more funding to the PRC's Project 714, the Shuguang (Dawn) spacecraft, instead of canceling it in 1972 as he did in OTL. There could have been a first Chinese manned spacecraft in orbit in 1973, as originally planned, rather than OTL's 2003 with the Shenzhou. The PRC could have their own base on the moon by 1995, but I don't see them wanting international cooperation with either the USA or USSR. India received help with its first couple launches from the USSR, but its dedication to the Non-Aligned Movement during the Cold War would, I think, leave it relatively low in space development - launching satellites into orbit or maybe even small payloads to the moon - as in OTL, especially with the Cold War possibly lasting even longer in the FOA TL and the flashpoint that the moon became in 1983.

They couldn’t. Danny said that Ed was always Bob when they played out the episodes on the moon.
C) they only had 45 minutes before the meltdown started by the time they got into contact with Houston and knew they needed to do something (Margo said 45 minutes I think)
D) the suit Vance was in, was shot more than once as was the cosmonaut suit and therefore wouldn't have provided any extra protection than the duct tape, even if they taped it (especially if any shots hit the helmet).
This show is basically a prequel to the expanse now. we almost had a war, a ship blew up in moon orbit and now we are going to mars.

Two things, one, I totally agree with you on the old tv look. I felt like that gave the funeral a simple little touch. Second, thank you for making these reviews and the amount of details! Looking forward to season 3!
Best ending I’ve seen in a long time
Gordo’s redemption arc was amazing, and that scene was the best in the season. But it was bugging me because they could’ve temporarily depressurized and grabbed Vance from outside the door and patched his suit with duct tape. The damaged suit would’ve given Gordo plenty of time to do everything and make it back alive.
Exactly what I thought, the body was lying outside the door, they both could have been alive

An absolutely incredible episode to end the season! Great review as usual. First question, "When will Season 3 start?!"
This was just masterful television. Simply freaking brilliant. Edge of your seat with real stakes. What an emotional ride
I’m late to this series but this is my favorite episode so far, I was sad when they were found dead since they were really good characters from the beginning. I was shocked by the transformation of the guy that plays Gordo since he looks completely different from one season to the next. This is a really good show and I’m glad that I can binge it. I’m looking forward to see where it goes.
so i guess next season is Ed's redemption arc, and we know how it'll end
what do you mean?
@@mojaave don't think Ed won't make it to a season 4
@@chifurbr aww man I hope this doesn't happen he's my fav character
@@mojaave It makes sense, he’s getting old and there is only so many seasons he can stay in.
@@joshuajoe1419 he gon be at least 55 years old in season 3 I guess
In the beginning I just happen to come across this show and absolutely fell in love with it! Fantastic!!! Now I can't wait for the next season!
Same story. I just came across it on my free sub to apple tv, and damn! This show was fantastic
I’ve been enjoying Apple tv’s sci fi lately with my husband. We decided to belatedly watch this show. Just finished season 2 and wow. Glad I’m here.
I think Ed and Tracy in seperate cars may mean they have split up.
Gordo and Tracy dying ripped my heart out. I love this show
Can’t wait for Team B to show up next season. And Nancy’s astrologer!
Thank you! You do a great summary. I watch every time right after the episode. Looking forward to your thoughts on Season 3
I was not ready for that double wammy.
I just started watching the video but I have to say I took a heavy hit. Gordo was my favorite character and I'm still crying.
best show in years its been a very long time since i felt the tension from a show
They really ramped it up, and it's pretty impressive that they were able to tie up all the different storylines.
Yeah. Hollywood doesn’t take any risks nowadays. I’m glad they were willingly to kill off their main characters.
what a show,,,random scrolling one day and this little gem appears....well played
I think the Russians will make it to Mars first. In the ending scene, the boots were the same ones the Soviets had on while raiding Jamestown. The suit has the same blue stripe on the leg too.
+
In 1995, the USSR has disappeared, this alternative history does not solve for the Russians, the reasons that will cause their fall.
So I wonder where we are going to go, talk about the history of Russian-Nasa cooperation? Russia of Boris will try to take Margot while Russia has become poor?
@@waardlafrance110 Still, what if the USSR doesn't fail.
@@waardlafrance110 since it’s an alternative history, the USSR may still stand.
i love this show.... the finally was amazing!!! pete thanks so much for always doing a great job on breaking down the episodes..... cheers mate!!
Anyways I agree, great finale we unfortunately saw coming [but I didn’t personally think they both gonna die :( ]
As for Mars, I love it!
A no Doritos alternate timeline sounds bleak.
This final Episode is a reminder.... The shit can go south anytime. It's just crazy to think that bunch of people just command absolute power
Too bad Buran didn’t use O Rings.
Too bad Margo is a Soviet dupe.
@@opusmax1 Because she's naive.
in OUR universe it didn't.
Bye Tracy
Bye Gordo
By Bob.
:(
Thank you. Great breakdowns. Loved this episode:)
RIP the Stevens couple
So excited for season 3 though
Who knows maybe the Chinese or Indians will be in the mix in 1995.
