Thank you for the instruction! Picked up 27 old mags at a yard sale for 2 bucks apiece because the weren't feeding correctly. Using your method all but 2 of them fire like they're brand new. Thanks again
Dropped a mag in a gutter full of water this morning. Hadn't cleaned a mag in a while so I tried but didn't wanna force it. Googled "disassemble colt magazine" and found this vid. Perfect! Thanks! Subscribed.
Thanks for the info. Taught this old dog something. Went to range, did a few basic combat shooting exercises, dropped mags for quick reload. Didn't think nothing of it so when I got home I started the cleaning process, didn't clean mags, loaded er up and ftf on every mag. Now I can clean them and VOILA, this requires another trip to the range, thanks for showing the process. L.
Nice! You're very welcome. I'm so happy this video has helped, and continues to help, people clean their mags. I didn't think 10 people would watch it when I made it so it's kind of a shock to me really. Glad it helped you, also. Thanks for watching!
I didn't know how to do it until I watched. My particular mag appeared to have a different spring. (Factory Colt series 80) Mine went with the angle of the mag instead of against it to put the loop forward. Regardless, I finally got it cleaned. Plenty of gunk in there too. Thanks.
Hey thanks for the vid! I always clean my wilson combat mags because they are easy to disassemble however the old govt model ones don't get as much attention. No longer the case. Good vid!
Thank you, had problems reassembling my Remington r1 9mm mag and this helped. My only bad comment is if you think hoppes is badass... use clp. That stuff is amazing and lubricates EVERYTHING even parts you can't reach with out more disassembly
I appreciate you sharing I've never cleaned my mags and lately they've been sounding pretty gritty glad you shared I can completely field strip my 1911 but never thought about how to strip the mags! Again thank you sir I appreciate the video and I laughed at the crs joke I have those days especially when its early before my coffee. Stay safe and keep shooting brother
Thank you for taking the time to write this nice comment, Donnie. I'm always happy to hear from people saying that this video helped them clean their magazines. Happy shooting!
I’ve got two 7 round mags that I found in a basement ceiling at a remodel job site. Owner said they weren’t his and I could have them. Here I am several years later having some financial trouble because I’ve got health issues, and I remember these magazines. Turns out they’re authentic WWII era mags and sell for around $50 on eBay lol. I’m cleaning them up and I was thinking huh, they’re welded up, can’t take them apart. But wait. How did they put them together then? You answered my question. Now I can clean them properly for whoever buys them.
Thank you for this. I was one of those who did not know how to approach this disassembly. I have a magazine that is consistently "failing to feed" I'm hoping this will do the trick.
I bought a Magazine Kit from Tripps Cobra Mags & did not know how to install it in my Old Magazines that I have, Never done it before, Thanks for sharing etc once again
I was wondering how you got the follower back in after cleaning. That tilt looks like it does the trick. Thanks for the video. BTW - I laughed out loud when I heard what CRS meant.
Thanks! Need to see how this is done to clean a 100 year old 1910 magazine and put a new spring in it! Hopefully 1911 GI mag and 1910 mags are similar! They look to be...
Yep, it does. Just rebuilt my 45 and figured out how to disassemble Gov't mags, this makes it a lot easier. Some companies build in floor plates now but I have a bunch of older Chip McCormicks, I like how they run, but they have to be disassembled this way.
I used to do the same , until I found out that only the top section get dirty , so now I push it down , clean the top then release , no need to take the follower out :) ....
KG Great video thanks for the Tip.? Never knew how to do that before. It it ok to spray the magazines with some Silicone spray instead of using any Lube on them.? I Generally use EEZOX to clean all of my firearms & magazines. It dries clear & does nor collect any lint etc. On any of the parts.
@MyHollowpoint Thanks! there was a time, not long ago, that I wanted to clean my 1911 mags and had no idea how to take them apart. I thought this video might help some one in that situation.
@JUKEBOXX1990 Sorry to hear you had issues with the reassembly. maybe after you've done it a few times it'll get easier for you. I took a guess on the Mustang mag. I've never had the opportunity to break one of those down. I hope this video helped a little. Maybe you could do a video of the correct procedure for that one!
@@rtz549 thanks!!! Good to know. I wipe down The outsides of the magazines but then use a dry rag and clean the oil off. I do This more just to remove any hand oils so they don't cause rust or anything
LOL, i love how old people uses "i'm old" as an excuse, i'm sooo looking forward to being old. hahaha thanks for the info on this, i had trouble with my stock springfield armory magazine disassembly.
My new 1911 magazines have trouble loading the last round in them ( 7) round mags ( Metal Form Mags) Any suggestions on how to loosen them up top squeeze in that last round,? Even with the MagLula loader I still have trouble squeezing in that last round. I am also old & my hands are not as strong as when I was a younger person.
@Dampochino You're welcome. You can lube the mags, and most people do, it just attracts a greater amount of powder residue which makes for more cleaning needed. I've found that most quality mags need very little to no lubricant to work properly, but hey, do what makes you feel more comfortable, bro!
I looked through your other videos and perhaps I missed it, but do you have a video of you actually breaking down the 1911 and cleaning it? That is the part I am most worried about attempting on my own.
Thank you. Well, there's a few things that would cause that to happen. I would check the feed lips on the magazine to make sure they are not bent out of shape, for starters.
ok thanks, The mag that came with it works fine, but I purchased some GI mags online and they wouldn't lock the side back. I'll look at that, Thanks again
I ordered a new mag for my 1911 and the spring is getting stuck down when I load and won't push back on bullets to feed correctly. Should I just send the bad mag back to the shop I ordered it from?
Thank you for watching and commenting, Joshua. I don't specify which ads I want on my videos. They are just random and I guess they (Google) think it's funny to run anti gun ads on gun channel videos! I don't see them so I had no idea. I guess I'll have to change my preferences for what content I want & don't want. Thanks for the heads up, bro!
After all these years. This video is still helping fellow shooters. Bravo sir !
Thank you for the instruction! Picked up 27 old mags at a yard sale for 2 bucks apiece because the weren't feeding correctly. Using your method all but 2 of them fire like they're brand new. Thanks again
I just acquired my .45 in a inheritance. The mags are dirty and don’t feed. This video was a huge help. Thanks
Awesome! Glad to hear it helped you get those magazines back in service. Be safe. Hapy shooting!
Really a good and RIGHT way to clean a magazine. There are so many wrong ways to do a simple job on U tube. Even if you do have CRS! Have a great day
Thank you, Rick. I appreciate you taking the time to watch & and leave the kind comment.

Awesome Thanks!!!
Why don't you want to lubricate the mag? Just curious
It can get into the primers and make them not go off.

I'm very glad it helped you out! Thanks for watching and commenting.
You can use a jag, or just wrap some patches around a .38 cal cleaning brush. Both ways will get the job done.
Very helpful. Thank you Sir.

@NuarStanger Thanks! It's a piece of cake, brother. After the first one you'll have it down.
Good luck!
@kg9pz do you think i can disassemble my colt mustang .380 mag like this
Nice boy thank you for sharing this video
Thanks. Hope it helped you.
You slide that follower in , Like your loading a round in it, Motion Cool.
I ordered a new mag for my 1911 and the spring is getting stuck down when I load and won't push back on bullets to feed correctly. Should I just send the bad mag back to the shop I ordered it from?
Yes, definitely.
Do you know whether a Colt Double Eagle uses the same magazines?
Exactly what I needed! Thanks a lot. CRS made me laugh too hard
Great video sir!
What's with the Brady campaign ad before the video? Do they force you to do that? I'm not trying to be an ass, just curious is all.
