I read about Cornelia Goth on the Sims Wiki and apparently she is supposed to be married in The Sims 1 and by the time The Sims 2 comes along, she and her husband are supposed to have died in two separate fires... so that's kind of scary seeing as at least two fires started not too long after "Corn" came into Jim Pickens' life.

Part of why people started hating Jim, is because The Sims 1 works on a "three strikes and you're out" system for social interactions. It was introduced with Hot Date, and it means you can't just spam the same interaction over and over again. If you do, the other sim will get annoyed and start rejecting the interactions. You need to switch up the actions, otherwise it goes poorly.
I had no idea :o In Sims 2 you could spam jokes and the NPC's would love it! I also heard in Sims 1 some pre-made sims don't come with interests right? So you kinda have to go to their houses and "activate" them otherwise you won't be able to have a successful conversation with them because their interests are empty xD God, sims are weird!

it reminds me of when I forgot to feed the cat in my sims game as a kid and it died - I was so distraught that I kept overfilling my real cat's food bowl to make sure she'd never starve and got in trouble with my mum for making a mess XDD human sim death never bothered me, but pet sim death really upset me
I remember using the potions a LOT as a kid because they seemed like shortcuts past the tedium of building up mood and relationships etc. It's funny that Kevin homed in on the exact same strategy but I think they actually are a two-edged sword since; the red ones instantly make your social with another sim up to 100 but do not adjust your personality traits to match them so they instantly become a very grumpy, nagging spouse. The blue ones put up the meters but it's random every time which ones it increases. The fines for making too many can really hurt etc.
A lot of people say it's difficult to make friends in The Sims 1; some even say that it's impossible. But it's easy if you understand how the game works! When the Hot Date expansion pack came out, sims acquired a wider range of possible interests, and sims became uninterested in any conversation that wasn't about one of their interests. Given that there are 15 possible interests, and the average sim has five of those interests, it's very easy to find your sim talking about things that the other sim doesn't care about. THE INTEREST BUG: The problem was that Maxis forgot to go back and ADD interests to the sims that existed before Hot Date came out. So people like Bob & Betty Newbie or Bella & Mortimer Goth didn't have ANY interests, which meant they hated Every Single Topic of conversation. But it's easy to give those sims interests! Just play their household for a couple of minutes and take them to a community lot. You can take them to Old Town (if you have Unleashed) or Downtown (if you have Hot Date) or Magic Town (if you have Makin' Magic). Taking the sims to a community lot automatically gives sims interests, so once you've taken them somewhere, bring them home, save the game, and they'll now have interests. Of course, since there are FIFTEEN possible interests, and your sim will only have around five interests, it's completely possible to have no overlap between your interests and the interests of the sim you want to make friends with. I play every household for a minute, so that I can look up their interests and write them down. Then, when a sim walks by my house, I can look up that sim's interests on my list, compare them to those of the sims in my household, and have a sim with at least two or three common interests talk to the person. Or, if no one in my household has at least two interests in common with the walk-by, I don't bother talking with them. Any topic the sim has seven or more points in is an interest. Any topic they have three or fewer points in is a topic that will make them LOSE relationship points if your sim talks about it. If they have more than three but fewer than seven points in an interest, they won't enjoy talking about it, but they won't lose points if you talk about it with them. If you want to change a sim's interests (and don't want to use a mod), you can buy magazines downtown. Reading a magazine will give a sim a point in the topic you're having them read about, BUT it will also take away a point from a random interest. When your sims are just standing around talking, you can't change what they talk about. But if they're doing a group activity -- eating at a table, watching TV, playing chess, and so on -- you can click on your sim, and one of the options will be Change Topic. If they're talking about something the other sims aren't interested in, you can make them change the topic of conversation to something the other sims DO like. You can tell what the sims are currently talking about by looking at the pictures above their heads and comparing them to the pictures on the interests panel. A boat, plane, or car means they're talking about Travel, whereas a shoe, eyeglasses, or necktie means they're talking about Style, and so on. If the other sim thinks about something with a large red X through it, it means they hate that topic -- don't talk about that!

This is why Jim cant keep any friends for very long. He doesnt apreciate them until theyre gone. Also, he doesnt pay his friends, which is probably the main reason Alfred could tolerate such madness to begin with.
Vital Tips: Sims have different Interesses /like and some sim will have more fun reading books, other prefer physical activities, and other watching Tv. It's based on your sims personality and likes / dislikes. You should use something your sim like to increase their fun. If you have more than one sim, even if it just cats, have two door for every room- Sims tent to block paths. And two bathrooms are also helpful . The genie is not really helpful. having a sim just at home, painting can me more reliable than any job ( cause they can't loose it) Community lots are very helpful, because the time in your house freezes, # you can make friends. For parties / dates and guests, they want to use the toilette, eat and have fun. ( happy guests dates are more likely to react positiv to social interactions) choose a career with fewer work hours ( even in the higher levels) and one in which you won't need to many friends. (becoming a star is fun, but hard, and you won't make much money) Sims have actual interests, and if two sim interests don't match, they can't increase friendship via talking. never forget do save the game :D
My favorite thing is that, after Cornelia died, Cornelia's sister immediately went to go and beat up Jim after seeing him make out with a new person less than a day after her sister died lol
I remember my family was big on the Sims, at least 1 and 2 when we could get the games and expansion packs, and once us kids found downloadable community stuff it went wild. Even for the Sims 1 you could get xenomorphs, the fish girl from ReBoot, Batman, super gothic outfits, super steampunk outfits, custom art for walls, and my friend even found a beached ship house on a forum somewhere for Sims 1. We liked making characters and building the houses and my mom especially liked building the houses, Sims 2 was her highlight of interior and exterior design.
I used to play the first one with my mom and used to have a really nice 2 story creepy mansion styled house. Id like to one day recreate it to the best of my memory.
Lets be real, that is but an ilusion the chaos of the game generates. Kevin and responsabilities dont go hand in hand. If it wasnt for Alfred they would all have been long dead.
In sims 1, repeating the same social interaction more than 2 times in a row is a big no no, they get tired quickly and rejects it. You have to switch up the interaction not to be rejected!

I was watching Kevin's Sims 1 videos and I just realized something, Kevin tried to befriend Gunther, Gunther then drank Kevin's potion which caused Kevin to kill him which left Cornelia single who then Jim Pickens married and promptly killed, its all one interconnected conspiracy scheme. Both were also summoned by magical means, Gunther via genie lamp and corn via red potion... You never cease to impress Kevin.

My dad watches CMK all the time because of me (I moved in with him to take care of him post-stroke), its' become his background noise/comfort TH-cam channel. I think this video is his favorite and its one of mine... The amount of times we have yelled out, "Thats it! I'm going vibratin'!" or "OH GOD, HE'S (our dog Max) IS POSSESSED BY CORN!" has become worrying but hey, it makes us laugh lol.

The biggest thing I remember in Sims one, as you have to clean the lamp a lot, the more you clean it the happier the genie gets and you usually get better things. I remember having a rule of clean five then rub.
The best way to make friends in Sims 1 (which is also used as a speedrun strategy) is to use the hottub. Have your sims enter the tub and then put any kind of furniture around it so that they can't leave. Sims will keep talking for hours in the tub and their relationship will only get better, it never decreases. But don't forget to let them out eventually or they'll die lol
Also, to get a good romantic relationship, buy expensive gifts from the Hot Date lots like jewellery etc. Those really push the relationships high and help manage them if your sim has a lot of friends/lovers.
if you think about it, Jim is kinda like Barbie. both had lots of jobs, both had many different eras, both change their lovers almost weekly, and obviously, both live in a pink paradise, the only difference is barbie's pink is just pink, and jim's pink is some weird poison/drug

having a sim just at home, painting can me more reliable than any job ( cause they can't loose it)
Community lots are very helpful, because the time in your house freezes, # you can make friends.
For parties / dates and guests, they want to use the toilette, eat and have fun. ( happy guests dates are more likely to react positiv to social interactions)
choose a career with fewer work hours ( even in the higher levels) and one in which you won't need to many friends. (becoming a star is fun, but hard, and you won't make much money)
Sims have actual interests, and if two sim interests don't match, they can't increase friendship via talking.
never forget do save the game :D
Genie is only helpful if you live in a one square house without no doors to escape the predicament
My favorite thing is that, after Cornelia died, Cornelia's sister immediately went to go and beat up Jim after seeing him make out with a new person less than a day after her sister died lol

I remember my family was big on the Sims, at least 1 and 2 when we could get the games and expansion packs, and once us kids found downloadable community stuff it went wild. Even for the Sims 1 you could get xenomorphs, the fish girl from ReBoot, Batman, super gothic outfits, super steampunk outfits, custom art for walls, and my friend even found a beached ship house on a forum somewhere for Sims 1. We liked making characters and building the houses and my mom especially liked building the houses, Sims 2 was her highlight of interior and exterior design.
I downloaded a ton of stuff too. I remember I had some Spice Girls outfits and a Lara Croft one.

I used to play the first one with my mom and used to have a really nice 2 story creepy mansion styled house. Id like to one day recreate it to the best of my memory.

In sims 1, repeating the same social interaction more than 2 times in a row is a big no no, they get tired quickly and rejects it. You have to switch up the interaction not to be rejected!

I was watching Kevin's Sims 1 videos and I just realized something, Kevin tried to befriend Gunther, Gunther then drank Kevin's potion which caused Kevin to kill him which left Cornelia single who then Jim Pickens married and promptly killed, its all one interconnected conspiracy scheme.
Both were also summoned by magical means, Gunther via genie lamp and corn via red potion...

The biggest thing I remember in Sims one, as you have to clean the lamp a lot, the more you clean it the happier the genie gets and you usually get better things. I remember having a rule of clean five then rub.
You know it's bad when the second you hear "Oh corn is dead" your reaction is to not think even slightly and just say "Oh, that's great!"

I love to see you play Sims 1, its so hard but its also so stupid and fun so it is worth it
The best way to make friends in Sims 1 (which is also used as a speedrun strategy) is to use the hottub. Have your sims enter the tub and then put any kind of furniture around it so that they can't leave. Sims will keep talking for hours in the tub and their relationship will only get better, it never decreases. But don't forget to let them out eventually or they'll die lol
Also, to get a good romantic relationship, buy expensive gifts from the Hot Date lots like jewellery etc. Those really push the relationships high and help manage them if your sim has a lot of friends/lovers.

Hey, Kevin! Your problem is that you spam the same interaction. After the 2nd time, sims start rejecting it. You need to change the type of kiss or chat in between smoochies for a smoother experience LOL
