It´s not Winter yet .. still you can feel the weather has changed but Winter in the country is mild especially in the sea side, while if you go to the countryside in particular the northeast mountain side then expect low temperatures in the winter not to be compared of course with northern countries, still its worth mentioning that the cold in Portugal since its a little more damped it gets to your bones faster then in more stronger and colder winters in some other countries .. but yeah winter is mostly chilly and wet except for northeast which you can expect snow and minumum temperatures that range from -10 to +2 especcialy over night. For me in particular this video is great to show all of Portugal how beautiful our country can be and that we still have some almost untouched nature out there and that we must all do our part in order to preserve it especially for future generations. Dont know if You and Sacha know that it was in Leiria district that an Epic battle was fought in order to preserve Portugal independence many centurys ago and was won thanks not in small part due to our anglo allys and their famous bownmen (Aljubarrota)

Eight Miles from Home Most houses in Portugal were not built for cold winters, the three months of winter you may get half of the period cold, but even in winter time you can get many days with some sunshine, but of course still chilly. New built houses or apartments now have regulations for insulations, double glazed windows, etc.. they are way better prepared for the cold. If you dont live in a big city in Portugal, if you live in a house you can get a recuperador de calor and buy a ton or two of fire wood, for a couple of hundred euros which will last for the whole winter, and it will keep warm a couple of rooms in the house easily. Do a bit of research about recuperadores de calor , they are affordable.

Now would be the right time to go back to UK... The car on UK plates needs a new MOT... and the Portuguese authorities are catching up. So why not leave Portugal for a few months, and let the heat settle down. A caravan would be a good Idea so that there is no address trail. Also easier to keep Story away from other children. Oh yes... That what you have said on Patreon.

I don't know if you are planning to homeschool your daughter but I think it is a bad idea. The child needs contact with other children. Portuguese schools are not that bad despite some cuts in government spending. If you want to integrate into Portuguese society, rather than living in a linguistic and cultural bubble, having your child do what every other Portuguese child does is a must.

Agreed, Story would learn a lot of Portuguese by watching cartoons, speaking to other children, going to school...
despite some things, portuguese school is still good, if she goes to a good local school she will be learning languages, science, etc well and integrate well.
I learned a lot of English through music, tv, films, speaking...

Hi guys! You could keep on going forward the path. A little bit after the rocky place were you got back, there's a little narrow path up the hill, just until the river spring: a cave. The climb is not hard, but probably not suitable for Story. In the summer moths you can even get in the cave for a few meters.
You should also check "Buraco Roto" in Reguengo do Fetal, some 20 km away from the Fórnea. ;)

I finally figured out how to view my subscribed TH-cam channels on my large screen TV which makes the experience even more enjoyable.
I have been entraining the thought of escaping to Portugal from the freezing Canadian winter. My biggest challenge is where to stay. I have never stayed at Airbnb. I have always stayed at hotels.
I like nice clean, warm & cozy comfort. Access to a washing machine is a must if I decided to stay for a couple of months. I was there in February, so I have had an idea of what their winter is like. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.🙏🇨🇦

Hi Esther, I’m Canadian too... from Ottawa. I spent one winter in Portugal (and now I’m planning my return). I lived in the same district that Eight Miles from Home is... Leiria. I was in a town right beside Peniche. I fell in love with it!
I think to some people, who live in warmer climates, they may not appreciate the winter... But for we Canadians, who suffer through 6 months of snow and 2-3 months of bitter -40 degrees and/or freezing rain... Portugal is wonderful!
I had really great experiences with AirBnB in Europe, and the house I lived in in Atouguia, for 3 months is now in AirBnB... you just need to read through what is included and definitely read the reviews... and you can contact the owners if you have any questions. I suggest you make a list of must haves (like heating) and then use the AirBnB filters :)
Reach out if you have any questions.
