Easy Sample Chopping on the PO-33

  • Today, I'm going to attempt to make a dope house beat with just the PO33 KO! Aka, the Pocket Operator Knock out and some samples from Tracklib. I'm going to slice and dice the samples to create some unique rhythms and add a little bit of flavor with some 3rd Wave Synth. Digging through Tracklib's massive library, I'll show you the drum sample I found that caught my ear. Next, I'll bring in a bit of 3rd Wave Synth to create the lead line. I'll sample that into the PO33 and start layering it with my drums. Lastly, I'll slice up some more samples and start layering them on top of everything else. And that's it! With just a single pocket operator you can make some seriously dope beats. But of course, this comes with my one gripe with Pocket Operators.. Exporting.. I hope you enjoyed this video and learned something new. Awesome beat! I love the simplicity of PO's workflow, sometimes it feels more inspiring than expensive gear with all those bells and whistles. Would love to see more PO-33 videos on your channel in future!

Love the KO vids every once and a while. Like Bob Ross taking a break from painting to sketch for a bit, it’s just as nice, a little more chill, lets you see those sound fundamentals at work

Dude! I love the PO-33 so much! You know, Fatboy Slim once said, "Everybody needs a TB-303," yeah, true but honestly, times have changed and so I'd love to rephrase this…"Everyone needs a PO-33". This little device is so versatile and makes it so easy to create beats on the go! It's crazy🤯

Exactly! The POs, especially the 33 is the perfect gateway for beginners, like me, now I'm hooked! Koala is great, but I miss some features that the PO has, so that's why I mostly use it synced together, perfect combo 😅 Also thank you for your sample packs for the 33, they've been a godsend for learning and experimenting with my 133♥

Hey Ricky, your videos are amazing and I've learned so much about sampling with it. I'd love to understand a bit more of your setup connecting the PO-33 (or any other device) to your computer for sampling/playback and if you use some app to route audio between inputs and outputs avoiding loopback and so on...
    Thanks a lot!

PO-33 makes the coolest loops, but solo it seems like just a cool tool to allow you to get lost in the sauce for an hour with minimal progress towards anything to publish. I imagine if you built your parts/patterns and then exported instrument parts to an SP-404 or MPC, you could track out easier while still being in the physical zone. Keep finalized parts looping on the SP while also working with the same exact samples on the same work flow. But if you wanna fuck around with drums, delete the drums from the PO-33 timeline after you record those patterns to the SP-404. Keep them looping, but clear up your PO-33 for more work to do while exporting those parts to an easier work flow to track them with. Level up your limitations as you level up the track.

It takes time but you can track it out to DAW. Just a load of copy-pasting and removing steps.
Make sure you always keep one pattern empty so when you record in you can chain it to another pattern, that way you get perfect loops.
