Update: Since the father seemed to be the common link between scaleless babies and health issues (like the cleft lip baby from last year who was sired by him), we decided to retire him from breeding and rehome him to a pet-only home. It was a tough decision, but we believe the right choice in the end. He's now part of a very loving family and enjoying retirement! ❤

He had kind of a hazy, translucent look to him, I was going to suggest naming him Ghost or Spirit, guess it's sadly more apt than I could have guessed.
I had a jungle python (morelia cheynei) named Ghost who was 11 years old pass away just two weeks ago. He really is a Ghost now. God i miss that cheeky bastard.

Love that you guys are using crystal as rubbing rocks. So pretty. My guess, seeing as the father seemed to throw scaleless babies with health issues, is that there could be one of two things going on. One option is that there was a linked gene to the gene that causes the scaleless trait that had a deleterious mutation to it. Because the genes were linked, linked meaning when one is passed on the other is as well not that they were next to each other, any offspring of his that got his copy of the scaleless allele would also inherit this gene. Of course, that then leads onto discussions on whether that deleterious mutation could be a dominant gene, or if it's a gene where if a scaleless snake doesn't have two working copies it causes issues. Either of those options would mean that none of his offspring should be used to breed for scaleless babies, because any offspring that inherited his copy of the scaleless gene would also have inherited that deleterious mutation as well. The second option is that he still carries a deleterious mutation, it just isn't linked to the scaleless gene and you guys have just been unlucky. Which option is the correct one depends on how many of his scaleless offspring show defects. If it's all of them, then it's definitely option one. If only some of them show defects, then it's option two.
Maybe he had something internally wrong with him and so it’s probably for the best he passed. But I could be wrong. It is sad to hear that you have no scaleless baby from this clutch.
Yeah, sadly it sometimes happens where an animal has the strength to be born/hatch, but there's some sort of internal defect that ends up being fatal once the body tries to function away from the womb/egg.
All the scaleless babies in every single clutch have had issues (whether it's being stillborn, deformed, or being unable to thrive). I love Emily and Ed, but they need to stop breeding them. :/ EDIT: What I mean is that in the scaleless clutches, the stillborn ones are pretty much always scaleless. I don't know about the other ones, but I know the leopard-print scaleless baby never ate for them and, of course, there's Chip. But nearly every single scaleless snake has had a slit cut into the egg for them and there have been several stillborns. Like c'mon...
@@MajiggerRose they've had luck with scaleless babies last year. All breeding projects - all breeding in general - runs the risk of bad clutches and odd mutations. This year has just... highlighted those risks more than usual.

They don't plan on having kids, though, so he'll just continue to be a great bird, snake, fish, lizard, turtle, alligator, invertebrate, frog, toad, and salamander dad. :)
