You’ve got to love Magpies. They have such a great attitude - couldn’t give a rats about humans. If they know you they won’t attack...I find they are more polite than kookaburras when it comes to food. The Maggie’s tend to wander up and hang until you feed them. The laughing sky pirates just swoop in and grab what they want. They are insane!
Haha we've not experienced that yet with a kookaburra. Everytime I hear them laughing, I grab my phone to record them, and they stop immediately though! 😆
We’ve never killed them, but we do catch them with a tub and release them into the garden - our dog thinks he’s a bug killing machine, so we definitely wouldn’t keep them as residents 😆
We have a heap of Magpies that live near us. In our yard plus in the park next door. During the “non nesting season” we occasionally throw them a bit of food. Maybe some dog pebbles or left over chips. Magpies are one of the few birds that have “face recognition” (they can recognise a person for 23 years according to recent studies). It’s currently “nesting season” here, and they won’t swoop anyone in our household. Our dog and the kids walking past on their way to school seem to be “fair game”. Us? Nope. They don’t see us as a “threat” to their chicks [cue spooky music].
As an Australian I can say this is legitimately a sensible list for the most part. - the comedy ones are annoyances - the serious ones you take seriously for a reason. Cane toads don’t spit poison. It is the white stuff that they extrude behind their eyes.
Some of these aren’t exclusive to QLD, apply to other parts of Australia. For example, Magpies swooping during their breeding season is common in all the states, I guess. Compared to NSW and VIC drivers, I found QLD drivers more casual/ less serious. I lived in QLD (Brisbane) for ~6.5 years and absolutely loved it. Cheers!

Sounds like you've settled in and keeping a good sense of humour about it all.
You moved from UK to the tropics so extreme weather is to be expected. Move down the coast a few hundred miles and the weather will improve. I live in Sydney, no cyclones, no snow., no tailgating or rarely.
Magpies are only a menace for a couple of weeks . Make friends with them and they will leave you alone. Great funny birds. Very clever birds and love to play.
Befriend a Magpie and you will live in peace and harmony for ever. A family of Magpies live in my neighbourhood, I've helped them raise generations of babies and I've never been swooped, ever. They come to my backdoor in the morning, sing to attract my attention and they eat from my hand. If I dine outside they will come to the table looking for something to eat. I push some food to the side of the plate and they understand that is their food. When it's eaten, they fly off. To love a Magpie is to have a friend for life.
We used to have great delivery service and we could get stuff sent from major city or town to major city it would arrive next day or maybe the next day. Also check the dunny seat if you use an outdoor toilet for readback spiders :).

It is always been accepted in NSW that QLD drivers are to be feared. My brother - a long time resident of Q - commented to me when I was driving in Brisbane with him that it was obvious that I wasn’t from Queensland because I didn’t see an amber/orange light as an invitation to accelerate to beat the red light. They also have the quaint but illegal habit in NSW of doing U-turns at traffic lights.
@@VideosCPS I once saw a 4WD with Queensland plates do a U-turn in a roundabout and drive back, opposite to the flow of traffic, to get to an exit the driver had missed.
Tailgating is easy to fix. Keep your foot on the accelerator at the speed you are going (say 100 kph). Very lightly rest your foot on the brake peddle (just enough that the brake light at the back of the car comes on). Whoever is “tailgating” you will soon back off. Guaranteed.
A couple of years ago, I drove Sydney to Melbourne for a wedding. Was only in Melbourne for 5 minutes before I'm tailgated. Of course I did the Sydney thing and flipped him off.
The worst things in Queensland for me was having to say hey after every sentence and when driving you notice that Queenslanders can't understand the words give way.
Tailgating is pretty much in every state. I guess people are just impatient. Just need to ignore them. Thanks for sharing your views in general about Queensland! Cheers!
Yeah...all the rest of Australia knows about Queensland drivers. Tailgating is not so bad in NSW as the HWP down here see it as an easy revenue raiser (negligent driving...4 points $400 fine). Our pet hate is drivers doing more than 10kph BELOW the speed limit. They deserve tailgating.
We were surprised when we first visited that everyone was keeping to the speed limit, we quickly found out why though, as we got several tickets on our 2 week holiday! We had never seen tailgating like it either 😬
That extreme weather can happen eanywhere in Australia.Tasmania and WA are the 2 most beautiful and the best states in Australia. You sound like you are ready to go back to the UK..Advice GIVE QLD A BIG MISS LOL
We definitely have no plans to head back to the UK, but we do have a lighthearted giggle about the things that aren't quite so perfect here. Overall we love it though ❤️ We do plan to travel more around Australia in the future and look forward to visiting WA and Tassie 😊
First up, LOVE your vids, bloody funny and very informative!.. Here's a secret about removing unwanted multi-legged 'guests' that you don't want. Many years ago, my Wife, who has a mortal fear of spiders, cockroaches and pretty much everything else, yelled out to me, as she was sitting in the next room, 'Get rid of it, Get rid of it!!. I bolted in, thinking that it was the largest snake in Australia, to see her pointing to the wall, where a Huntsman was sitting, minding it's own business. I shot to the bug killer cupboard, NOTHING, 'cept a spray bottle of Genuine Windex glass cleaner. Now, without going into needless detail, I turned the nozzle to 'Jet', (very important), and from two metres away, gave it two squirts, and within 2-3 seconds, it had joined its Ancestors. This works on ALL multi-legged bugs, but it MUST be the genuine Windex, the cheap stuff is useless, both for cleaning glass, and anything else. Windex, "cleans as it kills"!. .
Huntsman spiders are harmless and a good thing to have in the house, they eat just about everything. They are attracted to carbon dioxide and will sit on the wall above your bed in the night waiting for passing visitors. If you don't want them in your house, they're dead easy to catch, just be aware that they run fast, can run sideways like a crab and can disappear in an instant. Their favourite method of escape is to abseil out of harm's way. I catch them with a broom and a plastic bucket. Move the broom behind them on the wall and the will abseil into your waiting bucket; easy peasy. Take the bucket out into the garden, or where ever you want to release the spider, lay the bucket on its side and leave the spider to make it's own way home. Never kill a Huntsman, they're beautiful creatures.
Just found you. Spiders (tick) Drivers (tick) Weather (tick) I'm from Melbourne. OMG Drivers, very scary, Spiders, I have been known to ring my son at midnight (he lives 50 Kms away) screaming about a giant spider and what should I do. Reply? Kill it. And then he hung up on me in my hour of need!!!

Yeah the Vics have the same habit when they come to Adelaide, illigal u turns at traffic lights.
@@VideosCPS I once saw a 4WD with Queensland plates do a U-turn in a roundabout and drive back, opposite to the flow of traffic, to get to an exit the driver had missed.
Ahhh the joys of living in the subtropics. Wouldn’t live anywhere else
We quite agree, we love it! Xx
I think you forgot to mention the Drop Bears
@@mal584 hahahaha! How could I have forgotten those!! They should definitely have been at number 1! 😆
If you really want to smarten up your footwork while driving, come to Canberra!
We will visit one day! ❤️
I've heard cranberry juice can reduce your bushfire risk ;)
Tailgating is easy to fix. Keep your foot on the accelerator at the speed you are going (say 100 kph). Very lightly rest your foot on the brake peddle (just enough that the brake light at the back of the car comes on). Whoever is “tailgating” you will soon back off. Guaranteed.
Funfacts The box jellyfish can kill 60-90 seconds
Oh gosh, they don't sound too fun 😂
A couple of years ago, I drove Sydney to Melbourne for a wedding. Was only in Melbourne for 5 minutes before I'm tailgated. Of course I did the Sydney thing and flipped him off.
House roaches are dirty, whereever you are except if they are the hissing roaches type used in Fear Factor tv reality.
The worst things in Queensland for me was having to say hey after every sentence and when driving you notice that Queenslanders can't understand the words give way.
This is fairly true and hilarious
You've got to laugh at these things 😁
All of these things are also common in Southern Africa except the magpies, bushfires and giant cockroaches. Thats the Southern Hemisphere for you
Happpy 6th Anniversary!
Thank you 🥰🥰
I have been her 30 years and you are so correct the drivers here are awful !! I have tried to make my kids better ones but it’s sooo difficult !!! Lol
Haha Lily starts driving at the end of this year - we will be a bag of nerves! 😬
@@TheBAMFamalam scariest thing you will ever do !!!🤣🤣🤣
to get rid of cane toads you need a golf club, that will do the trick..
Love this ,sounds bad doesn’t it .?But we wouldn’t live anywhere else ,but Qld ❤️
Defo wouldn’t live anywhere else, we love it! ❤️❤️
Tailgating is pretty much in every state. I guess people are just impatient. Just need to ignore them. Thanks for sharing your views in general about Queensland! Cheers!
Here in Sydney it's illegal to tailgate you can be fined
All of that sunshine though!!
Oh I know, we love it really! We just have to giggle about some things 😆
@@TheBAMFamalam Absolutely!! Keep on doing you, it’s great fun!! Thank you.
Gotta love magpies and huntsman spiders. Cane Toads are revolting.
We are certainly not keen on the cane toads 😆
These are all Queensland things we don’t even have roaches here in south-east New South Wales 😎
😂😂great laugh 👍
We're glad you enjoyed it 🥰
It takes so long to get a semi up to operating speed and so long to stop, so give them some consideration and get out of the way
Damn it, I forgot to subscribe!! ☑️
It's never too late 😉
@@TheBAMFamalam I’ve done it, before I forget again.
You 2 crack me up...your cool.
One vitimin c tablet cures dogs that have licked toads, it works for mine
Wowza, glad to hear your dogs recovered, we'd not heard of that before!
I thought Coles and woolies delivered virtually immediately...
Magpies are going for your hair, not the food. They want your hair to make there nests...
Haha - if we are all bald in our next video, it's your fault 😆
Feed the magpies & they’ll love you forever
Qld is my least fave place in Australia..I hate it,everything in it can kill you and when I saw my first scrub python that was it.
Although it can, most animals will only attack if they feel threatened. We don't worry, we just stay back if we do see something ❤️
@@TheBAMFamalam Big red kangaroos will attack if they don't like your shoes hahaha
@@louiserawle8999 haha any excuse for shoe shopping 😂

That extreme weather can happen eanywhere in Australia.Tasmania and WA are the 2 most beautiful and the best states in Australia. You sound like you are ready to go back to the UK..Advice GIVE QLD A BIG MISS LOL
We definitely have no plans to head back to the UK, but we do have a lighthearted giggle about the things that aren't quite so perfect here. Overall we love it though ❤️ We do plan to travel more around Australia in the future and look forward to visiting WA and Tassie 😊
@@TheBAMFamalam Don't miss the breathtakingly beautiful Kimberleys
Jeez, they have big seat belts in Australia.
Are they?! 😆
Whistle and talk to the Maggie's, they wont swoop you.

Windex, "cleans as it kills"!.
.
Thank you so much for watching! Don't tell too many people that - the pest control guys will have no work 😂
Huntsman spiders are harmless and a good thing to have in the house, they eat just about everything.
Oh no haha! You need someone else to call next time! 😆
Magpies are an acquired taste...best bbqed
Bush fires 😁
For spiders and cock roaches there is a great spray at Coles that will kill them immediately...
Never kill spiders! They eat cockroaches and ants and moth cocoons.
Toads can't spit poison
Thank you for correcting me - looks like that is a popular misconception! 😬
@@TheBAMFamalam All good , people in Queensland like to stretch the imagination
dont forget you are in queensland.
As we mentioned at the start of the video, we do love where we live ❤️
Have to agree with the idiots tailgating. So bloody annoying.
It's a little intimidating at times! 😬
You need to try those cockroaches in a mild coconut curry. But peel their wings off first or the dish will be too crunchy.
Haha think we will take your word for that!! 😂
