    This is super valuable, especially for late hatches to hold them longer available for the races. Thank you.

      My pleasure. Some of these things I just do and not realize many may do not know this trick. Nothing worse than a half an 8th flight, no 9th flight and a 10th flight going to a big futurity race.

    Love the videos as always. My question is, here in Ireland my young bird season starts in the end of July my birds are weaned in January i Dont want to use the dark system as I Dont have the time. How can I guarantee a full wing from last week in July until 4th week in September? Thank you 👍

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  ปีที่แล้ว

      When racing young birds the body molt is more important than the wing molt. Your pigeons should be completely through the body molt. I would suggest cutting and pulling the 9th and 10th flight in the spring. Your pigeons will go into the season with a completed body molt and wings with the power flights. Have you ever cut and pulled flights?

      @@FrankMcLaughlinPigeons thanks frank. Someone else told me that if they are born in December I could let them go through a molt naturally in February and march and I should be okay for race season in July is this 100% accurate. I just need to know because the darkness system is not something I will have time for so whatever I do I need to have it right to be able to train in may/June for racing in July through to September.

      As you know I do not flock treat my pigeons ever. I will individually treat them. Antibiotics will not affect the molt if you really must use them.

    Great video! Question- what is your opinion on pigeons with 11 primary feathers for racing or breeding? Maybe a topic to discuss on another live.

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have had a few in my career with 11 flights that have won. My Fabry based pigeons used to breed 11 flighted birds. I do not mind this but there is no advantage or disadvantage. Nature wants 10 flights so evolution says that is the perfect number.

    Frank what percentage barley to champion plus for feeding young birds

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do the same as old birds. 80% barley and 20% Champion. You should feed once a day until they leave some barley. Did you see my feeding videos?

    Hi Frank I thought I heard you mention when a natural young bird. Meaning . “no dark or light system” is it dropping the fourth or 5th flight that triggers the body moult? And if you pull it will help the young’ bird start it’s body moult sooner then if you just leave it to nature?

    • @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons
      @FrankMcLaughlinPigeons  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Robert, Yes you are correct that natural is not messing with lights or the dark. Not much you can do to quicken the molt. Nature will take its course and some pigeons molt fast and some molt slow. They do go into the body molt mid wing molt and pulling a flight will not cause them to start the body molt. Too bad it was not that easy. Usually you can get them through the body molt before the season starts and you can pull the last couple flights to have them with fairly full wings for the races.

      When is your first race? Do you need to take them out of the dark now? If your season ends in the middle of October keep them on the dark for another month then go to 17 hours a day of light.
