Thanks Alex! Think we'll take Canvas + Reflections to Mom's house tomorrow night for our after dinner game! She'll probably appreciate a break from playing Wingspan!
Very much enjoy canvas, and I really feel like the expansion added so much more choice to the way you play. Definitely a hit with my family, but I agree with you that Cascadia takes the cake.
I love this game and the Reflections expansion made it even better. I am so glad it has grown on you. I remember when you first reviewed it, and Cascadia as well, I ranked them higher than you, but now they have been elevated to where they belong. 😊
Hey Alex, I think there was a tiny rules mistake at 3:05. in the Reflections rule book it says that you put an inspiration token on all the cards in the columns to its left. That would mean the 2 on both the top and bottom rows.
I like the reminder to consider that as good as the expansion is, you need to consider if the price tag is worth what it adds. For me, I really wanted to love Canvas, but I ended up selling it after 4 or 5 plays that were all just mediocre. I'm tempted to get it back though because it really seems to be a game I would like, and it's easier to get on the table than roughly 80% of my collection.
Just played this game and absolutely loved it. Noticed however that the transparent cards get scratched over time, any ideas on how to protect them? Perhaps Hugo’s Amazing Tape?
@@BoardGameCo appreciate the note back Alex, you’re awesome. It wasn’t mine so not sure but I’m now purchasing it so I’ll definitely make sure to do that when I receive mine - thanks again for the heads up. Ps: Noticed there’s a new Canvas Box + reprint coming out soon as well!
I also didn't like the Masterpiece option. If we use this, we will Houserule the option by giving that price a 3 - 5 point value added to the player's final score.
My only complaint is that the new board is too bulky and takes up too much room in the box. I'd rather have two canvas play mats, stitched down the middle so they could be folded without creasing, then rolled up like the old mat, allowing everything to fit into a single box for portability. A new tuck box would have also been nice, to fit all of the art cards from both games -- it would be a tight squeeze but I think it would fit.
I just received my Kickstarter copies. Played them a couple times, and immediately sold them. I asked the wife what she thought...she yawned asking to play Bob Ross Art of Chill again... she's silly. I read the Canvas reviews...watched the videos...bought into the hype, but in the end it wasn't for us. We're hoping Eternal Palace will be good...it has a painting theme also.
If I were less lazy I'd screen-capture your whole video and edit it so you just said "I can't recommend Canvas" at the end and then post it on a fake account :-)

Enjoy it :)
What I absolutely loved was the reversible cards. I didn't expect to be this impressed with them.
I definitely like them but they don't make the game for me.
The reversible cards add a lot of options to the base game experience, and are a big reason this expansion succeeds. 🖖
I recently received Reflections. Wow, was I surprised. This is an excellent expansion.

Cascadia is delightful :)

I love the new Gold Ribbons and, even more, the optional Vincent rules for two-player games.
I think the double sided cards and the more variety of choices to take makes Reflections pretty much essential for me.
I believe that the new board, giving you more options, adds to the strategic value.

Yeah, I just saw someone else do that too in another review.

You got the boxes on the wrong sides. 😆
Lol close enough

Hmm...have you taken off the film? Mine don't scratch, wondering if you never took that off.

Did you make a new review of the finishing touches expansion and show the set up?

I give Canvas 3.5/5. Canvas with the expansion 4.5/5.
