My favourite thing about Engl Savage is that you have two separate gain knobs on channel 2 and channel 4. It gives you not only gain for days, but also helps to tweak gain’s structure
secret to dialing in these monsters is to crank the mids and treble past 3 o clock and cut back on the presence knob. makes them come alive and gives a natural gain feel. So unique and German!
The best noise gate I've heard integrated into an amp was in the Carvin cyclops bass amp. The gate was on the speaker output but the trigger for the gate was on the input jack. Dead quiet!
YESSS!!!! ENGL SAVAGE 120 MARK 2!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😆🤘💀💀💀 I can proudly say that I have one of my own and it is such a BEAST!!! 🔥🔥 (P.S. - Crank the individual channel volume knobs passed the 2:00 position to get the most out of each channel, and then attenuate with the Master Volume!) And the clarity in the Fishman Fluence Fluff pickup at 21:00 man! 😎 (Nice shirt btw)
I love that this thing can both do a nice punchy metal tone as well as a beautiful crunch. Would love to see more ENGL amps on this channel, especially sleepers (The Saveage is $$$)
I love the diversity of dad rock as you call it and metal tones. But overall, I deffo prefer the fireball. It just has so much more punch for what I actually look for in an amp. I still own the older fireball 100 and it still sounds better than any rehearsal studio amp ive ever played. I actually wanna start taking it to practice more and more now
I have the MK1... as many buttons as the amp has, it really has a core "sound", the button are more about how you want it presented, if that makes any sense. I really, really like it through a my mid 90's ENGL 4x12, it's pure Opeth. I also find that the slightly darker mid-90's cab suits the amp better, it tames some of the top hiss while still keeping it present.
I have my Mk1 paired to a 1999 Marshall 1960BV V30 cab and your description is fuckin spot on. I had it mic'd up in front of a 2005 Marshall V30 cab and a 2018 Mesa V30 and both were kinda hissy in the trebles. Definitely sounds the best through the '99.
This has been my number 1 amp I’ve wanted for awhile. I instead bought a Friedman JJ100 and it just didn’t do it. Sold it and not really in a position to buy a 3k amp and be responsible at the moment, but I will have one soon.
I love my savage. No idea what that tone control does, supposedly it works in smooth mode, but I can tell 0 difference when I use mine 🤷♂️ I thought it was broken 😂
Kyle, since you have access to many amps could you do a video, or a series of videos, comparing the real amp with some Neural Amp modeler captures of them? All through your Mesa 4x12 1999. It would be a very interesting comparison! Congrats for the awesome channel and all the best!!
Wanted to get an MK2 a little while back, but bought an MK1 instead since I wanted one after seeing it used by Dimmu Borgir. I am not disappointed- it plays hard and sounds so good for high gain metal but then can get so many sounds in between clean and ball destroying as well. Plus, a slightly simpler layout that I think is confusing enough sometimes lol. Love my Engl!
@@lordgraga My band has a couple of different cabs and it has sounded great out of all of them except a Marshall 1960A. Best so far I think is a Madison 4x12 with V30s + DV-77s
I've been fantasising about this amp (really the MK1 version) ever since Gary Holt started using them in the studio. Exodus' tones since Temple of the Damned have been monstrous.
Dude that amp kills!! I'm thinking bye bye to my friedman be100 deluxe. Serious! Because you nailed classic and really good sounding high gain tones so easily. Hmm damn!
Hey Kyle, great video as always! You should definitely play with the CRUNCH II GAIN knob too when you're in the LEAD Channel (same for the CLEAN GAIN when you're in the CRUNCH I Channel). I have a Savage mk1 and there the two knobs act like two different gain structures you can blend and from what I heard the mk2 acts similar. So CRUNCH II GAIN is more on the dirty side and has more grid if that makes any sense and the LEAD GAIN is more just the compression.
I'll be very happy when my PC speakers & subwoofer are delivered, and then I can really hear you and all of your amps & cabs reviews, My comments will truly mean something... They'll carry weight and people will think that I actually know stuff, smart stuff that is and about everything... I'll have ability to makeup new words too !😌🤫🤣😳🇺🇸
Great demo. Too much amp for my needs. I have the Fireball 25 6L6's and Ironball 20, EL84's. Wish ENGL made a smaller amp with 6550 or EL 34's. just so I could round out the collection. Any suggestion for a smaller/ lower wattage EL 34 head would be appreciated.
Kyle! WHY HAVEN"T YOU MADE YOUR OWN AMP! you're ears amazing! freaking love how you explain things PS. VL100 review!!! butcher it, love it, it's a pedal platform monster, prefers Greenback 25's
What would you say the winner is here: The Powerball or the Savage? Forgive my ignorance here, they might just be a whole different amp for two different things. What do you guys think?
The Fireball 100 doesn’t have a depth/resonance knob, unfortunately. Then again, unlike the Savage, it has a lot of low end that more than compensates for such a need. The somewhat similarly voiced by tamer Powerball does have a depth/resonance knob that works out great. I think all amps should have one.
this is why i love the invader i have. so flexible and the depth punch knob helps me dial in just the right amour of low end. everyone raves about the savage i would choose a invader all day over the savage. i love engl amp btw just the invader is my dream tone.
Hey Kyle Dude, you should start a Warehouse of amps & cabs business... "Kyle's Awesome Warehouse of Tones", I'll move inside the warehouse and work for you night and day !😏🥳👍🇺🇸
Dude, I need this amp! Is it true bypass? Does it have a sweet spot? Is it transgender friendly? Nonbinary? Covid compatible? Can it get Eddy's "negro sound"? Asking for a friend
First off great channel much appreciated!! Now can you do more amp reviews on some Amps priced in the lower to mid range so after I see these great reviews I can afford to buy one??! Thanks buddy!!!
What i love about the ENGL's is, that you have an brutal high gain Monster but also an very classy classic sounding Machine.
plus noise gate and no need for a boost nor overdrive pedal
My favourite thing about Engl Savage is that you have two separate gain knobs on channel 2 and channel 4. It gives you not only gain for days, but also helps to tweak gain’s structure
Gain knobs don’t interact with multiple channels in the MKII
secret to dialing in these monsters is to crank the mids and treble past 3 o clock and cut back on the presence knob. makes them come alive and gives a natural gain feel. So unique and German!
From what I recall from the manual, that tone balance knob only does something when you have the smooth/rough button activated.
ENGL MONTHHHHHHHH!!!!
I’ve never played an Engl, but I’ve always wanted to try a Fireball. I hear they’re very raw sounding.
The best noise gate I've heard integrated into an amp was in the Carvin cyclops bass amp. The gate was on the speaker output but the trigger for the gate was on the input jack. Dead quiet!
Amazing how people don’t understand why the trigger is best after the pickups where it’s the most dynamic

I completely disagree with kyles statement of " lacking low end punch" just saying
whats the difference between the Powerball and the Savage in terms of tone? What are you getting in one over the other?
I love that this thing can both do a nice punchy metal tone as well as a beautiful crunch. Would love to see more ENGL amps on this channel, especially sleepers (The Saveage is $$$)

I never thought about this before, but you legitimately have more, and a better selection of amps than pretty much any music store I've been in, lol.
Music stores don’t have jack shit anymore. Not unless you’re in a massive store
I am really confused as what to do with my pants now
Buying the 60 Watt Version with el34 , Trust me 💪
Jokes on them. I wasn’t wearing pants to start….
The Savage 120 just does it for me.

ENGLS always have really nice high end crisp harmonics

If you can get only one ENGL amp. What would you get? Savage, founders, powerball or Invader?
Kyle, since you have access to many amps could you do a video, or a series of videos, comparing the real amp with some Neural Amp modeler captures of them? All through your Mesa 4x12 1999.
It would be a very interesting comparison!
Congrats for the awesome channel and all the best!!
It was glorious each time you let the chords ring out. 😍
This amp is amazing! Great job, it was worth the long wait
Thanks for all your hard work and content brother 🙏
The hi-balance knob only controls the high frequencies with the rough/smooth button engaged. Without the button engaged the knob is bypassed.
As always, I enjoy your videos!!!!
(The low/ High gain button works only with Crunch 2 and Lead channel)...
Keep up the good work....

Great demo Kyle! Sounds great when boosted with overdrive. Needs more bass as you mentioned. Rock on brother.
I've been fantasising about this amp (really the MK1 version) ever since Gary Holt started using them in the studio. Exodus' tones since Temple of the Damned have been monstrous.
Javier Reyes was using one live when saw AAL live in cleveland and man its such a great sounding amp. wish i had enough cash to get one.
Listening with headphones and it sounds amazing 🤯
Duuuuude that just started with tones to rip faces off! I love this amp! I may need this in my life soon!
*EDIT*
Can you set it up for a Bogner month?
When you got crunch ii, it could've been the pickups in the balaguer as to why you had to crank the gain, possibly. Great video though, thank you!
Dude that amp kills!! I'm thinking bye bye to my friedman be100 deluxe. Serious! Because you nailed classic and really good sounding high gain tones so easily. Hmm damn!

They are independent on the Mark II.
I've thought I missed Car Wash at Infinite, but not where Jamaica really was. Namastè.
I want to get a bigger ENGL amp and trying to decide between the Savage, Victor Smolski and Marty Friedman Inferno models.
The Video Pic Is So Good!
You Look Happy And Mad lol!

I for one love my mkii Savage. I prefer the Crunch II channel boosted with a Dirty Trees. BRUTAL!
Sounds great as always! I’ve tried the mkII, and I like the original better. I used to own the mkI for a few years and I just love it
Great review man, I really love your comparison videos and live streams. I noticed a mk1 savage behind you. You like this one or the mk1 more?
Hey Bro, nice video, love the amp! Use it for 2 years now. By the way, the Preshape only works for channel 1 and 2.😊
Great shirt bro!
I like the Kohle Audio Kvlt shirt, very nice

Check out the Mesa Badlander EL34 with the new Mr. Scary mod. It slays
I believe the depth knob is on the back iirc
there is no depth knob at all on this amp
@@belligerentamateur huh I stand corrected then maybe I’m thinking of a different Engl
Great sounding amp- loved that boosted gain 1 channel!
Also- do you have an affiliate link for Lichtlaerm Audio anywhere?
Oops- I mean crunch 1

I dig it. Choppin trees down with that beast.
It took me an embarrassingly long time to realize one of the “dad” riffs was Feathers by Coheed lol
Honestly, you have just scratched the surface.
Found the Lichtlaerm video & link 👍
Hey Kyle!?!?
This amp or the Generator 120??
love the mkII 60
lil metallica inspired riff there at the beginning
F!ckin love your work :) Thanks Kyle !
In terms of gnarly metal tones would you prefer the Savage or the Diezel VH2
As much as I love Diezel I’d say the Savage
Everyone’s stumped by the tone balance lol. It only works on smooth mode and it’s almost like a weak presence/treble control
I think boosting the 1st crunch channel is money on this amp.
nice 27 seasons intro riff
Thst opening riff sounds familiar...😮

Sounded like ass in the beginning clip. Surprisingly the Crunch 1 plus TS-9 was good
I need this amp
It haz tha br00ts! True to it's name, SAVAGE!
bravo
My favorite amp, Super bad bro.
If gary Holt uses it it for real. Engl is the shit. Pure nasty metal 😂
BROOTAL!
Remove your riff at 19:45. Metallica may steel it for their next album, it’s that good!!
Arrrrrgghhhh!!!!!
Sounds like Metallica!
Give it to me :)

All these high gain amps sound pretty much the same.
Maybe change the battery in your hearing aid then?
Didn’t really like this one. Sounded skronky and over compressed like the notes are sagging and fuzzing out.
Did you really just say it was lacking with low end punch.come on now.
sure did.
@@belligerentamateur I disagree
