    That new skyscraper looks fantastic! I wish American cities would take so much care and thought into the functionality of our skyscrapers. The skinny housing buildings in Manhattan are an unsightly embarrassment.

  • @TheMexxodus
    @TheMexxodus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    It's plain ugly that cluster of skyscrapers. Luckily for Moscow and Paris the urban planners there had the common, esthetical and urban planning sense to locate such a hideous cluster outside the historic city center.

      Well get use to it, the government has plans in place to build upwards rather than outwards consuming habitable greenbelt spaces around UK cities and large towns.
      I'm from Leicester where the Leicester council have no height limit as the East Midlands Airport is 8 miles outside the city boundaries, what they have said however is anything over 40 m is super tall for the city.
      There are plans to build three towers along the river soar or bede island as part of the regeneration plans this also includes the Leicester King Power expansion and redevelopment of the surrounding area.

    As far as I'm concerned, the more skyscrapers the better - onwards and upwards. Lets not be shy.

      Yes, as long as there is an overall cohesion, it is a good thing for the renewal of the urban landscape.

    Wasn’t this the building that replaced the original Pinnacle skyscraper proposed for the same site? A building that was spectacular in my mind.

      Yes, it is. I also think it was more handsome.

    • @lg_believe333
      @lg_believe333 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Looking4En I agree, it was a more elegant looking design. But it was fraught with money problems, funding its build and there was a lot of issues regarding the complexity of its design. A lot of the components were just too expensive to manufacture and assemble on site. So, a new company took over the project, changing its design, but its not on par with the revolutionary gherkin design, or the cheese grater design. Just my opinion. The city of London must set the standard for other U.K. districts and cities to follow, and make sure its design is cutting edge, and not just another rectangular skyscraper going up. Also, speaking as a Londoner, a lot of these High rises do not cater for ordinary Londoners, they cater for the wealthy.

    • @Looking4En
      @Looking4En  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I completely agree with your analysis, besides I miss the time when the gherkin was perfectly visible in the skyline (it is my favorite London skyscraper).

    I think the conglomeration of these buildings are great in that London isn’t afraid to take chances. I don’t particularly like the view of downtown from say, the river level near the Shard. But the view from the west looking east is awesome.
    Speaking of Moscow (I read these comments first), I was wowed when I first saw those gutsy skyscrapers. Not too thrilled (an understatement) with Russia right now though thanks to Putin. But hats off to the architects who designed the Moscow skyline.
    It’s a shame I can’t view it in 3D in Google Earth. GE does this with just about all communist countries. And some that aren’t. Can’t view Shanghai or any of the Far East.
    Anyone know of an app where every skyline on Mother Earth can be viewed in 3D ?

    • @RedroomStudios
      @RedroomStudios 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      this new largest building blocks the view of many of the others from the west / northwest. also too many buildings made of 100% glass gives no contrast between them.

  • @gardengeek3041
    @gardengeek3041 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Totally agree about the problem of these new towers hiding the Gherkin. If they were as good as, or better than the Gherkin, there'd be nothing to complain about. Despite all the marvelous features mentioned inside Bishops Gate, it's just too massive for the location..... same thing that makes Hudson Yards completed phase in New York city so unattractive.
    This other London proposal, Ugler or something, has cross members on the outside like X's, already a cliche. The nice thing about the Shard, a handsome landmark, is that it sits off by itself.
    Another good update. Thank you, I've subscribed.
    What French accent??? I just thought someone was singing while I read the captions. 🤩

      Once again, I agree with your analysis. I think it's a shame that the city business district is deteriorating so much, there is no unity and architectural coherence since the talkie walkie's construction... La Defense is particularly well designed because it's not in the historical center of the city. In addition, there is a symmetry in relation to the historical axis of Paris really wonderful and full of meaning.

    Great concept, bland design. The City of London's skyline is now almost as dull as Canary Wharf's... But the fact that the skyline is rapidly evolving and changing is a good thing meaning that I am sure that this one will blend in soon enough...

    • @Looking4En
      @Looking4En  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I completely agree with you, but it seems complicated to me that it blends into the landscape of the city of London, given the ceiling of the heights fixed under 300 meters because of the air transport. Moreover, it is quite imposing...

    I dont like this newest building... its ugly and is so massive it blocks out many of the other buildings from certain angles. I think another big problem with London's growing cluster of towers is that they are mostly all glass of similar shades and so they tend to appear as a blob rather than individual buildings. what most more established skylines have is buildings of differing materials and colours so that they contrast against each other rather than melting into each other.
