Korbin, Harivansh Rai Bachchan (né Srivastava; 27 November 1907 - 18 January 2003) was an Indian poet and writer of the Nayi Kavita literary movement (romantic upsurge) of early 20th century Hindi literature. He was also a poet of the Hindi Kavi Sammelan. He is best known for his early work Madhushala. He was also the husband of social activist, Teji Bachchan, father of Amitabh Bachchan and Ajitabh Bachchan, and grandfather of Abhishek Bachchan. In 1976, he received the Padma Bhushan (the 3rd greatest award given to civilians by the Indian government) for his service to Hindi literature. From 1941 to 1957, he taught in the English Department at the Allahabad University and after that, he spent the next two years at St Catharine's College, Cambridge, Cambridge University completing a PhD on W.B. Yeats. Bachchan's work has been used in movies and music. For example, couplets of his work "Agneepath" are used throughout the 1990 blockbuster movie Agneepath, featuring his son Amitabh Bachchan, and also later in the 2012 remake Agneepath, starring Hrithik Roshan. and recently in the TV Serial Ishqbaaz. Mitti ka tan, masti ka man, kshan-bhar jivan- mera parichay. (मिट्टी का तन, मस्ती का मन, क्षण भर जीवन, मेरा परिचय) (A body of clay, a mind full of play, a life of a moment - that's me) Amitabh Bachchan has shared a photo of a diya being lit near the statue of his late father, poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, in a square in the Polish city of Wroclaw which has been named after his father. "They honour Babuji by placing a 'diya' for Deepavali at his statue in Wroclaw...an honour a pride," he wrote.

I love the ending. Amitabh was there for Jaya but his past came back and it is difficult to walk away when Rekha was so close. It is hard when the woman you loved is back in your life. When he leaves with Rekha, they realize societal pressures wouldn’t let them be. Then when he sees the old couple celebrating a long marriage he realizes he couldn’t live with the burden of abandoning Jaya. The dialogue when Jaya says that last time Amit came into my life when I was pregnant and now who will come when I am pregnant again was memorable. She didn’t tell him at first but now he is putting his life on the line to rescue Sanjeev.
If I could have a conversation with Rick I could counter point out every single comment he had with this film. You can’t believe gossip magazines. Amitabh and Rekha were not driving in a secluded area and all of a sudden a crowd emerges. They were in a park ground and when the noise from the car brake happened, the crowd came. Amitabh didn’t act in a non action role for the first time after stardom. He did Kabhi Kabhie, Do Anjaane, Manzil etc.
Rick is growing old and becoming sense less day by day, month by month and year by year Korbin, on the other hand, has always been so good with this reviews and critics And as I always say, Rick needs to learn acting and film making
Yes the Holi song was written by Dr. Harivanshrai "Bachchan". He is a very celebrated poet in the Hindi language. In fact the Bachchan last name actually comes from the nom de plume of Dr. Harivanshrai
Ok Rick, then explain me this -(and I'm not looking for a fight - just trying to understand) if an actor is straight irl, does that become a factor in his/her portraying a gay character? To my thinking, it should not - but you say real life personalities overshadow on screen characters. I'm with Korbin on this. The movie should be judged based on what it is. I have a problem with infidelity and also that this movie was way before my time so I haven't ever felt inclined to watching it. But if I were to watch it, I will not carry the baggage of anything that might have happened between the actors - it is none of my business and no one but the three of them would know what exactly did. So to me it would make zero difference. I have enjoyed watching some Naseeruddin Shah-Shabana Azmi movies and I am told their mutual dislike was so intense, they would not talk to each other on set except while shooting a scene. I have no idea how true this was, but it doesn't take away from my enjoyment of their performances.
He always says that he doesn’t believe in gossips and rumours and never judges people based on that. How does he know that whatever was going on wasn’t a rumour. I guess the actors came and told him that it was all true. 😬😂 He just googled everything bcoz google is always right.
@@payalsharma5631 IKR !! We can only know what the media tells us - but that's not the point here. Even if the three actors themselves were to reveal the whole truth, it should still not matter while watching this movie. At least to my thinking it shouldn't. Having said that, I am not here to attack Rick for expressing his honest reaction. We have had some very entertaining and insightful reviews from him - and we do not always want him to give positive reviews. All I'm saying is I don't agree that the film should carry the burden of its cast's personal lives.

Rick's analysis of this film, how he goes on and on about Art Imitating Life...is just - all kinds of weird... As if he knew them personally and was personally offended 😂😂😂😂
It was also stated that nothing happened and it was a rumour that became an urban myth. Rekha has said in interviews that she is in fact totally in love with Amitabh bachchan , stating that he is the biggest star the country has ever seen so if a billion people can love him then why can’t she ? Sometimes we have to separate rumours. Allegedly both SRK and Akshay kumar had an affair with priyanka chopra (not at the same time I think) but that doesn’t mean we watch their movies differently

Sometimes Rick sounds so stupid, i mean he dint like the film because he think it's the BTS, seriously. In umrao Jan review, he praised Rekha because her character and performance really like actual life of Rekha, now he hates Silsila for the very same reason. Korbin makes sense...
Not Amitabhs first emotional role, he’s done many of those before Silsila, Kabhi Kabhie was way before Silsila! And Amitabh’s dad was a very famous poet in India. At one point he was more famous than Amitabh
What’s wrong with Rick? The affair was not even confirmed by any party.Basing a review of a movie based on a rumor 40 years later as if it was fact is just weird. In fact the movie gave more credence to the rumor than the other way around.Glad Sanjeev kumar stood out. He’s phenomenal
Amitabh bachchan also starred in Kabhi kabhi whivj was also a romantic film made by yash chopra in the 70s. Fun fact, it was filmed almost simultaneously as deewaar
The academy award mentioned on the film for which Big B character was nominated was not Oscars. He is a theatre actor in this movie not film actor 🤦♀️🤦♀️
In Silsila the infidelity was more understandable than in Deepika’s movie. There was a history between Amit and Chandini which made the audience more sympathetic. Deepika’s story was just not palatable to Indian sensibilities.
Rick was acting like a judgemental Indian aunty. It didn't relate to the masses because the subject matter was way too progressive for 80's India, adultery was a crime in India untill just recently, Besides weather they had an affair in or not is still a matter of speculation and popular opinion. So judging them and the movie of that is preety nonsensical.
Amitabh Bachchan's father happens to be one of the most famous and accomplished Hindi poets of post independence India. So there's no nepotism involved when he wrote Rang Barse. We had studied his poems in school... They were in textbooks.
Korbin should have reviewed this film alone... Would have made the review more watchable... FYI Big B's dad is a literary giant known for his great work worldwide in Hindi literature

There was jus one scene where I liked Shobha when she was covering up for her husband about the driving thing, rest all of the time ...she has been a blood sucker. All the center characters were bizzare. Rishi Kapoor- Will sleep with a woman but won't marry until my brother does. Shobha- Had all the understanding of that timer society n conceived anyway. Then has the audacity to ask Amit - will you marry me. Playing victim all the time. Amit- Broken up on letter with no closure, seriously? Chandani wasn't the one to come to him for love, he did. Later on she asked many times to Stop with this new relationship n he convinced her. N at end, impregnated Shobha too... Marvelous At the end there was no monologue for chandani to support her part. It ended centralizing Amit n Shobha. I want to see Silsila with no biasness n alternate ending.
Veer Zaara was also different. At the time India-Pakistan love story was a big thing. Interestingly, the India-Pakistan bus corridor started some years after the film was released and people thought of the film when it was started.
BAD movie ..! I’m commenting before I watch your review .. it’s an extremely bad movie and such a hyped one. Middle class of India hyped this mediocre movie for no reason.., those songs and that Shaayari and Bachchan voice I. Those “shee” and so on… but you can just listen to music … it a thoroughly flawed movie. Somewhere Yash knew it and hence he dropped Smita Patil and Parveen baabi who had shot 15% of the movie and requested Bachchan for Rekha Jaya ….

I have been making these point since 90s and I had been extremely surprised how this movie is adored by some folks .. it’s an absolute mediocre characterization indeed…

I am surprised that Rick would be affected by the goings-on in 1981. It is understandable for the audience in 1981, but now that Amitabh and Jaya have been married for so long, nobody, not even those who would have had a problem at the time, would have one now. They would see it just as a movie. Rick seems like he is overthinking here. Yes, one of the reasons Silsila didn't do well at the time was Amitabh and Rekha's affair, but I am a little surprised that Rick would be affected by that. On the contrary, I expected Rick to judge whether the chemistry between Amitabh and Rekha seemed legit, and likewise, the tension between Amitabh and Jaya seemed legit.

I was excited to watch this review, then Rick was just painful to listen to. Korbin has really surprised me over the years-I think he just “gets” Indian/“Bollywood” better. If Rick doesn’t understand that strained credulity is part of the genre to enjoy the films, it’s ok to watch different genres. I really enjoyed Korbin’s analysis. I really don’t want to be mean to Rick, he’s a good guy, but I just don’t get when he likes some films and not others…
Amitabh was extremely good hero (as in Bollywood kind of leading man), however he was not particularly a great actor. And this comes across more vividly every time he faces a real actor in true sense - be it his wife Jaya Bachchan or Sanjeev Kumar or Dilip Kumar who were amazing natural actors. You have not realised genius of Sanjeev Kumar (coz even now you are struggling to pronounce his name and remember his earlier roles, which is a testament of his natural acting). You have watched him in at least one movie - e.g. Thakur from Sholay. Amitabh has never acted with Naseeruddin Shah. Else he would have been exposed badly as an "actor". In his late career, Amitabh acted with natural actors (such as Manoj Bajpayee, Irfan Khan etc) and did well; which means that he could have acted and held his ground in his haydays. However, he was so consumed by stardom that he kept on feeding those massy Bollywood roles. Nothing wrong in it. However, he shouldn't be considered as a great actor. His movies look ludicrous today. He hams and the scenes are so over the top. You should watch more of Sanjeev Kumar's movies. He is someone who can be considered the forefather of Irfan Khan, Manoj Bajpayee and Pankaj Tripathi (actually there are a few before him, but he is one strong link in the legacy). After watching this, my respect for Korbin's understanding of Hindi movies has gone up multifold. Veer-Zara was a shit movie...highly overrated. Amitabh worked with 4 key directors multiple times in his prime years. They are: Yash Chopra, Prakash Mehra, Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Manmohan Desai. In his second stint in old age Amitabh worked with Ram Gopal Verma and couple others multiple times.
Amitabh is a natural and more diverse actor than others. His 4 National Awards are the most by any actor as his 44 Filmfare nominations. Black, Piku, Paa, Don, Alaap, Namak Halaal etc show more versatility than others.
@@AshokSingh-wu1dl you missed my point altogether. You seem to be Anitabh bhakt, so can't argue with you. Naseeruddin Shah is a far better actor...a genius actually. Amitabh was a star who could act well. But he was not a great actor.
@@Kaustubh56 I disagree. You can’t deny the versatility and range Amitabh has. Look at Paa, Black, Piku where Irfan said he learnt so much by observing him. He did both Alaap and Amar Akbar Anthony at the same time, sometimes he shot for both on the same day! He did Mili, Chupke Chup and Deewar at the same time. Naseeruddin said that tears never looked genuine on screen as they did on Amitabh in Namak Haraam.

@@hmmhmu2114 yes bcoz her husband didn't appreciate her the way a wife deserves to be appreciated. French guy was better husband meterial. Rick wanted shashi to leave her husband NOT have affair with French guy behind husband's back.

Korbin,
Harivansh Rai Bachchan (né Srivastava; 27 November 1907 - 18 January 2003)
was an Indian poet and writer of the Nayi Kavita literary movement (romantic upsurge) of early 20th century Hindi literature.

Rick's review depends on many other factors rather than just the core of the film itself ..... whether it's this (personal lives) Andhadhun (hero knowing not to play an instrument), Kantara (big monolog on how it doesn't live up to other critics' opinion) and goes on. Thanks god he isn't a reviewer for a reputed media

@@desertstorm2156 A Hot mess of a Movie Review Simply because its a Love Triangle and one person can't take it.
Sometimes u can see the generational difference between the two.
Korbin gets it...he has truly understood Indian cinema....Rick...🙄🙄
Going based off of Rick's opinion, he should not watch movies with Priyanka Chopra since she was notorious for hooking up with married co-stars.
Akshay. Srk. Hrithik.god knows with who more to reach Hollywood
He is an idiot who thinks he is very smart and intelligent and understands cinema like a pro
Rick by this logic you shouldn’t be a fan of Priyanka and srk ( they had an affair)
But he doesn’t know about it ,so it’s fine😂
Rick is such an ass, no one knows writers from the face and this is fact. Korbin you rock.
Fun to watch korbin when Rick has this andhadhun mode on 😂
Rick is growing old and becoming sense less day by day, month by month and year by year
Korbin, on the other hand, has always been so good with this reviews and critics
And as I always say, Rick needs to learn acting and film making
Korbin: What were you expecting then?
Rick: Uh eh mm eh oh
Exactly & Eating..😂😂

Bakwas movie hai Silsila lol
You should watch The Romantics series...which is tribute to Yash Chopra...the one who directed this movie...you will get most of answers about Lamhe and Silsila..and other stuff about director and movies

Sometimes Rick sounds so stupid, i mean he dint like the film because he think it's the BTS, seriously.
In umrao Jan review, he praised Rekha because her character and performance really like actual life of Rekha, now he hates Silsila for the very same reason.
Korbin makes sense...
Classic Rick 😂😂😂. He will cherish characters like Kabir Singh but will hate movies like this and Fanaa. Weird 🥴.
Wonder if Rick could pick out all of Indrani’s family in a line up considering they are related by marriage now 🤔
I feel your pain Korbin! You’re trying to review a movie and Rick seems to be involved in his personal opinion
Listening to Rick was worst then having a root canal…. He was trying hard to explain how he hates the movie… supposedly 🙄
In Silsila the infidelity was more understandable than in Deepika’s movie. There was a history between Amit and Chandini which made the audience more sympathetic. Deepika’s story was just not palatable to Indian sensibilities.
Rick was acting like a judgemental Indian aunty.
It didn't relate to the masses because the subject matter was way too progressive for 80's India, adultery was a crime in India untill just recently,
Besides weather they had an affair in or not is still a matter of speculation and popular opinion. So judging them and the movie of that is preety nonsensical.
Rick forgot to praise Rekha for her beauty 😂
Amitabh Bachchan's father happens to be one of the most famous and accomplished Hindi poets of post independence India. So there's no nepotism involved when he wrote Rang Barse. We had studied his poems in school... They were in textbooks.
Rick try to watch stuff without expectations , opinions or backstory. I feel you’re too emotionally attached to them. Love ya!
Korbin should have reviewed this film alone... Would have made the review more watchable...

Marvelous
At the end there was no monologue for chandani to support her part. It ended centralizing Amit n Shobha.
I want to see Silsila with no biasness n alternate ending.
Don’t you recognise Sanjeev Kumar? The actor without arms in Sholay?
Rick, your are right. The song 'Rang barse' is written by Harivansh Rai Bachchan. 👍
Rick wants everything perfect and always pin points everything...im still waiting for the day when he makes that perfect movie
Wondering Why did Rick record this review?
Rick lost me on this... seriously
bitter truth is that he's the reason this channel has stagnated. 60% of jaby's subs but 10% of the views

Rick is unbearable 🤮… Korbin ❤
Indian people has a habit of thinking stars are not good actors
@@AshokSingh-wu1dl ok, that's your view. We are talking in different planes. You are right within your boundaries.

This is by far Rick’s worst assessment of a film. I’ve never seen him be so off in every point he made and believes gossip magazines as truth.
Rick's logic is confusing sometimes...thankfully Korbins argument for the movie saved the review for me..I commented once that we should accept all perspectives talking about Rick ,but he was hard to watch today..sounds like he's very moody reviewer
Rick keep saying chattni( is a sauce eating with samosa 😂😂) instead of chandini Rekha’s name in the movie
I think Rick's personal opinions overshadowed the merits of films. This was an outstanding film with great performances. The fact that you can consider Veer Zaara better than this defies believability.
I don’t know what happened here. REVIEW THE FILM guys. Not what happened in their personal life. I agree with Korbin in more ways than I agree with Rick in this video.
Among Yash Chopra movies more than silsila you should see Kabhi kabhi and Trishul.. complex characters and beautifully made...
