Good job acknowledging that only a group is feeling the good parts of "power creep" whereas the mid or below are STILL left on the dust. I think that this just proves the idea that no matter the system, there will always be rich, always be poor, the middle will struggle to break free, and the chasm of "haves and have nots" will ALWAYS exist.
The chasm can be crossed, just not by everyone and it won't always be the same difficulty to cross.
Some will cross at the thinnest gap with a running jump, some will choose the widest gap but cross at a rink-a-dink bridge/fallen-tree, and others will climb down before climbing back up the other side. No group is guaranteed, many will quit before trying or at least before taking the other side - those that reach the other side, then choose whether to complain about the ease (or difficulty), reap the benefits quietly, shout to the other side that is really so easy if you try, attempt to go back and forth to aid others in crossing, or go home because either [A] they finally accomplished their goal and want to move on [B] OR quit because it wasn't as hard for them as they thought it would be.
Destiny 2 IS the chasm, as are any other things you feel worth doing in life (i.e. anything worth investing your limited resource of time, purpose/drive, and efforts)...
That said, i don't equate the cause and effect in the same order as many who bring up "power creep" ... most peeps go the route of referencing the superman syndrome: whereby every time superman defeated a major villain (or any number of arch villains such as Darkseid/Apokalypse, Lex Luthor, certain Kryptonian generals, and that reverso superman [one of the few to actually "kill" superman, btw]), he had to acquire a new power, knowledge, or skill.
But then to counter that, they had to up the ante and create a new evil force that was stronger so you'd keep reading about a hero that was super - so the enemies chased after an ever stronger superman. Mind you, he started out with ONLY these abilities: to outrun a locomotive [35-55 mph-train], to leap over 'tall' buildings in a single bound (taking 2-5 stories before eventually growing to about 10ish stories), and the strength (read more defensively than offensively) of a hundred men...
Then he was able to fly "look! Its a bird, its a plane - no its superman!"
... the rest of the argument is attached as a response ...

      [PART 2]
Then he was super strong and then even gained odd powers such as "X-Ray vision" and a breath strong enough to blow away a person or "put out a fire by suffocation" which grew into ice/freezing breath. Then he was too strong even for groups of villains - so now we needed shower villains to fight superman. Next Kryptonian rocks became a thing to counter superman as a bank heist. Eventually led littoral became one of the major arch nemesis instead of a repeat villain - because of his brilliance and Bruce Wayne Powers *cough* i mean being rich - and he relief all to heavily on green rocks and trying to overpower a more human like superman (losing and then coming back Shahin and again with some new contraption). Then new types of kryptonian rocks (different colors, rarities, & powers) were added to counter an ever powerful superman in between his fights with the super villains... before the ducks were used to give him new powers. And so on and so forth: it was always a case that super villains were too strong or the ever due situation required he awake me powers to save someone on the other side of the world - so he needed new/stronger powers to keep up. This they needed new rocks to defeat him, and this all the bad (naive, too) writing compounded into the superman of today which can fly against the rotating earth fast to reverse time, can fly into the sun to come back to life, can breathe in space (or hold his breath and not burst his lungs, eye balls, or other internal organs, let alone boil his blood from the pressure differentials that come from flying up too fast and down to fast and even diving deep into the ocean)... he didn't even bat an eye when 55s are shot at point blank range before crushing and deflecting off his iris... he can freeze things and blow away all the nukes and forest fires with his freeze breath... he can hear a pin drop on the other side of the earth while surrounded by New York traffic, and before sound even has time to travel that far, let alone it even being able to pass that far away without being drowned out by wind, people, car honks, etc - and it still doesn't account for the earth's crust acting as a giant sound canceling/absorbing agent due to the tectonic plate movement, density, multilayered nature that holds different amounts of tape air pockets and reverb water pockets - and STILL doesn't account for the constant earthquakes plus the reverberations from previous earth quakes; some of which are from, potentially, as far back as a few hundred years (based on current scientific literature).
As a migraine sufferer who has been taught and convinced with little logic (but tons of medical literature) that my neck problems were caused by tensing of the neck during and after a migraine, thus perpetuating a cycle that's hard to break, i was finally able to find a neurologist who scrapped the assumptions and through thorough trial and error and discovered the problem with that train of thought. That was a fluke for me, almost a "red herring," rather than a smoking gun. In fact, we eventually determined that my neck problems were, in fact, a "canary in a gold mine" - the neck problems had eventually gotten out of hand and during treatment of by neck problems, which always gets worse before getting better, coincided with a change in headache frequency discursive the migraines. It was almost a direct relation: neck pain and thus muscle issues increased due to spinal problems, then migraine frequency, too, increased. As neck pain went down or as things were calmer (more like that as things went from a rock concert to a live dubstep event or even the full roar of 80-100 dB of traffic and fracking and construction sounds to give an idea of how bad it really was/is), my migraine frequency didn't just halve or quarter, they dropped down to nearly an eighth: instead of 4± days a week of migraine attack(s), i had gone down to between 1b every week and 1 every two weeks...
anytime my pain and muscle contractions were left uncontrolled and overactive such as not taking care of my personal needs (such as my doing to much or pushing myself too far, over extending myself physically or emotionally, getting overworked, not getting enough time on ice, sitting in bad chairs at work all day, the bumpy roads i traveled over for 1± hour everyday, one way to work and another to home, etc), my inability to get the medications [meds are just 1 part of my regimen, btw] that helped me control it better (such as Insurance denying medicine coverage, pharmacy not being allowed to give any more of those meds to ANYONE until the next month starts, etc), and other stressors, however, my migraine frequency would spike and I'd be back at square zero again.

That blurb was important because I'm pointing out the theory i personally have about "power creep" and where/why/how we got here by giving an example of the superman syndrome in reverse - or at least the motivations for it are in reverse; it's really a mixture of both, imho...
My belief isn't that "power creep" is the cause for the state we are in, nor that our maintained rising power (the dreaded "power creep" is just residual or excess rise of power that was left unanswered, unmitigated, or at least not met with a proper equal-and-opposite "power creep") is cause for the state of encounters. Yes, they always say that all encounters have been built around the strongest weapon metas, strongest abilities, and the "everybody hover 'round to sing kumbiya" inside a "well of radiance" mechanic to do your dps phase. Heck, they used to complain we could one phase a boss, so many bosses are designed either as a bullet sponge OR have forced phases via a segmented health bar and roving invulnerability mechanic. The bullet spunge "mechanic" AND pub-stomp "mechanic" that ALL bosses have are there from the supposed "Golden days" - stomp was in response to D1 Sword dps phases and the bullet sponge has been there since one of the earliest vanilla d1 strikes (the fallen causative who escaped from the prison of elders) and the idea of difficulty since then has always been to remove your hiding places so you can't stay alive and defeat the boss over time (the aforementioned strike from d1 is a prime example because as it evolved, they would remove anything you could use to strategically defeat him, including adding kill walls, barriers, extra waves of invisible enemies, then congregating around ammo bricks, etc... so you had to defeat him by luck, hiding for a second and popping to shoot b4 running to the next duck hoping for no 2-shots from snipers or the invisible boss 2-shotting you. It got to the point in that one where purple would just not play that strike - they'd leave you hanging dry once you landed and they realized what you had gotten into.
They've always had trouble with trying to get back at gamers who defeat content that they thought they'd made into Elden ring tier difficulty - only for crazy gamer freaks to pop up and discover some glitch or some mechanic that ran in the game forgotten by developers; making it possible for the "gamer plebs" to enjoy content with the 1st class gamer citizens.
Ultimately, the bullet sponge, pub-stomp, segmented/3-phase health bar bosses, separation of phases by purpose (from dps phases to ad clear phases to puzzle/mechanic phases to stay-alive mob-zilla phases) have been around since the early days of d1 (Dark Below and on more so than vanilla, but the vanilla raid, VoG, introduced mechanic density and phases to encounters from BOTH the Templar encounter AND final boss encounters) as a means to add difficulty to the game. And then pros found ways to use the rules of the game engine (read sandbox rules) to make it into a game and trick bosses into walking off the ground to their own Denise from programmed aversion (read fear of pain/suffering overdoing all reason like it did for for living things) to long lasting, recurring damage grenades such as the solar nade and the void vortex nade, even thrown at the ground in a pattern that pushed them back to the holes in the ground - the same holes that Bungie out there to kill cardiac who were tricked into it during their aversion to bosses injuring (or killing) them... so they changed it to fit the desire of having a "difficult game" and "seemingly impossible boss encounters" at the expense of gamers. That's all fine and dandy until they rinsed and repeated this with other issues in-game.
Guardians (in lore) play with the light and use bomb logic and rope logic and sword logic all the same negate that's part of gaming... you push the limits of the games up until the point of breaking the rules to find the barriers and truly understand and master said game. But when we would do that, it didn't sit well with Bungie which had changed so much since the marathon and Halo days - back then they encouraged pushing boundaries and exploring and breaking the game because it was about making a game fun, not about proving themselves as game devs. They've proven more effective at avoiding responsibility and placing blame for problems in everybody else than a pikachu's thunderbolt proves effective against a water pokemon.
They rebooted destiny with D2 and tried to return to a level even d1 never saw with favor to enemies over players. But it didn't last long because it can't. They don't have the necessary skills or experience to create truly challenging activities in sandbox form because they fall victim to their own charades as well as to their 1-train thought process. Their solutions to difficulty don't compare to the rest of the competition because they aren't happy with difficult unless it gives even the best players a run for their money. The difficulty of older, non-sandbox games which are often touted as the golden and silver age of gaming didn't try to make it hard 1st. They started with fun, then spruced it up by amping up difficulty by providing a plethora of puzzles or mechanics or combining them. Then, the games were done. To this day, there is an entertainment market for gamers who speedrun. However, it teaches a head and then requires one to discover glitches, odd mechanics, and utilizing loopholes caused by interesting programming tricks that made the game fit in a cartridge or run smooth with lots of things on screen, etc... the game Devs don't try to smash these things to the ground nor do they regularly reevaluate and rebalance a game that took 2 years to half a decade to complete and test as if a bunch of changes done in 4-8 weeks will somehow balance better than what was Custer, tested, and built over a multi-year project.

      [PART 4]
Instead of trying to make things super near-impossible for the best of the best, they should instead focus on the middle, the chasm. That is where most peeps who stick around are, and where you're more likely to see player retention rates increase than focusing mostly on the best. Giving rewards to the best that only makes them more powerful, then chasing the perfect mission/dungeon/encounter by evolving encounters and mechanics to challenge the thus far unchallenged means you reward them for making your jobs harder AND for driving the newest and weakest away in anger/frustration AND for making the middle crew more livid, frustrated, and annoyed - which just hinders incoming gamers that might make it to the top, or at least the middle. Good challenges come from variety, not punishing the 98% to appease the 2%, and from utilizing ALL you have at your disposal: encourage the best to improve the weake, the fragile, the new, the naive new lights:
THAT is the true endgame content, the content that is the hardest, the most rewarding, the highest risk, the most difficult slough, the only not-guaranteed, ne'er possible to truly ever complete challenge in the game.
It rewards the best in a way only a parent, teacher, tutor, master with an apprentice, doctor/nurse, therapist, older sibling/uncle/aunt/grandparent can truly appreciate from the beginning, but that ALL can appreciate from the end: should they make it to the end.
But that all said, examples given about how Bungie makes changes after complaining goes on too long fall short because they don't prove that the changes were the start, rather they indicate that the changes were necessary negate Bungie either OVERCORRECTED in their favor (not in the average gamers' favor) OR that the existing situation is, overall, causing more harm than good - both to their bottom line (directly related to retention and esteemed product value) AND to their consumers (both retained and frequent new-lights/returnees).
Variety solved the problem of getting bored, as does pushing a raid race off till a while longer after a new dlc/release because fewer peeps rush through content to min-max in a week (or less) so they actually experience the new content the way it was designed. This, they learn all that is offered, and they don't end up with horse-blinders on while trying to rush to the end of the new content, skipping everything in between. They are busy longer and their ratings go up. More peeps have a chance to get caught up b4 a race begins, so there's nobody to blame for their feeling under-ready but themselves.
This means more peeps to experience content, thus more peeps are in the know and skilled, thus content can better batch said skill levels than trying to fill all of the grand canyon with water for a swim meet that will only last through the weekend.

    Man this brings me back.
I returned to Destiny just after Beyond Light launched. I played Prophecy with my friends and loved everything about it. That's when I saw the solo flawless emblem for it. I immediately started attempting to get it, but there was one problem. I had nothing. My guns were outdated, my armour wasn't masterworked, and I didn't have many of the fancy mods from the previous year. It was brutal. There was no restoration and there was hardly any DR. I failed over 50 times but just kept trying. I eventually created my first build ever. Sanguine Alchemy, empowered finish, and charged with light. Yeah, it was bad. But it was all I had. After countless attempts I finally managed to beat it. I was literally shaking as I claimed the triumph.
To this day that is my all time proudest moment in Destiny. I went on to solo flawless every Dungeon as they released, but none (not even Ghosts) ever came close to the challenge and satisfaction of Prophecy. Despite the fact I can solo Proph in 30 mins now, I still have the Prophetic Visionary emblem equipped on my Warlock and I refuse to take it off. Sometimes I see other players with the same emblem and it always makes me wonder if they have a similar story behind it. It really was a different game back then.

One note about the champion mods when they were first introduced. You actually had to socket them into the weapon itself, so 99% of exotic weapons did not have any anti-champion capabilities. It's what made Eriana's Vow so good around shadowkeep launch.

@sQuaTsiFieD charged with light is called armor charge now. They did not get rid of it but changed the name of it.
Elemental wells are baked into subclass verbs as well as ionic traces, etc, so you basically always have "wells" without needing to waste armor slots for the mods.

@@zeroshadowzsthis is just not true. First of all comparing elemental wells to subclasses falls apart the minute you realize how much got removed. Before I could run heavy handed on top of elemental charge on top of seeking wells with the mod that also gives me melee. Elemental charge isn’t what it used to be, heavy handed got changed completely and its replacement is far worse.
I could go on, but the reality of the situation is that build crafting became much worse with the new system and if they simply just did a few tweaks it would have been even better. The new system frankly sucks and erased a good amount of work put into it. The game is fine, but pretending like this new system is in any way even remotely close to as strong or better is a disservice to the old system, which had much more variety and power.

    • @zeroshadowzs
      @zeroshadowzs 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@elitejt8388 heavy handed being nerfed/ rebalanced doesn't mean that something was removed.
Yes elemental wells were literally removed, but the power that wells granted you, (temporary buffs or burst damage) is now attached to your subclasses. The power fantasy of kill enemy with a certain damage type and spawn something to interact with to get buffs is still there, so while in the most literal sense, wells were removed, the utility they provided is still in the game.
You feel strongly about your opinion and I respect that you feel the way you do, but the game has more variety now, not less.

I remember back when proving grounds first came out both my teammates died and I had to solo the final boss and that was the single biggest accomplishment of my 10 years of being a well seasoned and experienced destiny player. as it took me 2 hours because of the lack of survivability and ammo running out so I had to camp and hide a lot and pick away at the boss.
Then when my friend returned to destiny in season of the haunted and I took him through proving grounds for the first time so we could guild our conquerors, we beat it in like 15 minutes and he was making fun of me for saying “OOOH YOU SAID THIS GM AND CORRUPTEDWOULD HUMBLE ME YET THEYRE BOTH CAKE WHAT WAS ALL THAT ABOUT HUH” but he doesn’t know that we became insanely powercrept and the game was much harder back in the day.

One thing of note: Anti Champion mods started in weapons, then in Beyond Light they moved to the arms. Now they are intrinsic
I kinda miss the old subclass trees. Having a subclass that changes both positively and negatively really made you play alot different. Nowadays everyone runs devour on everything since it is the best, it used to be balanced by the downsides or lack of other upsides the tree had. I miss middle tree dawn and old Benevolence
I don't think all changes were for the better (as example most of the 3.0 reworks have, in my opinion, alot of flaws that make the game a little to easy and sometimes even trivial, which then led to stronger enemies which is now much harder to fight with old builds and playstyles) but the champion stunning in subclass verbs was amazing. It really freed up our loadout
It's one thing to make something increadibly strong without any alternative, but another is to grant more freedom of what to use
And please don't mistake my rambling for 3.0 hate, but I just feel like back then we had to make the best of what we had which made interesting mastery and playstyles, while now alot of stuff gets completely forgotten and never used, since there are just better options you can pick. I sometimes get flamed for using those underdog options
I miss the days where chugging a grenade 500 meters was a skill, since the enemies would kill you if you stood to close, or how playing careful was way more important. I kinda miss the landtank strike when it released.
Saltegreppo is not the Hero most of us want, but the Hero we need. He has a very down to earth view of stuff. Even if stuff is kinda fun, he is callign op shit out which I like. He isn't like "Buff everything" because that will just hasten powercreep

The game was better with out restoration I preferred having cover & playing smart to constant up keep of a super heal to stay alive while 50 adds & a boss constantly shit on you as you try to carry an orb from oneside of the room to dunk it in another. As the power crept bungie got more lazy poor mechanics, map design, & the even stopped making missions all together the majority of time now you are just running glorfied patrols. While I enjoy build crafting I hate the fact that everything is so dumbed down. Sure it is more difficult in end game now than it ever was , but that is because the more advanced the content the weaker they make you, this what is called manufacturing difficulty there isn't a thing end game content offers that if done at level we wouldn't walse though. I enjoy bungies gun play I like a lot of the people who designed the first game, but a lot of them are gone. We have never been so powerful & simultaneously so weak at the same time. I miss cover i hate getting constantly flinched it is not hard it is fucking annoying you use to be forced to use you brain, now it is try to multi task as we constantly jab you with a stick.
