Oh it has been so hot here lately! #Summer is ending soon but it is never to late to enjoy a drink like this. When the weather is warmer, you can always enjoy these drinks and get the benefits from #grassjelly. My dad used to prepare the grass jelly drink with #lychee during hot weather and our family never fails to enjoy every sip of the drink! Nicknamed "Micheal Jackson" as it refers to his song "Black & White", the combination of soy milk and grass jelly is a local favourite in #Malaysia !
grass jelly is a favorite snack in Vietnam :p, is cheap, healthy and always make summer cooler :3 I usually make the grass jelly myself ( kinda like making a normal jelly :D), but I don't know how to make the drink, thanks to your recipe, now I'm in love with this drink :P ( and all my friend love it)
It is freezing winter here in Canada and I have to wait for awhile...anyways,I shall turn up at the Chinese grocery store looking for grocery to run this project and practice Mandarin!:):):)

Trouble is, you can find some really exotic fruits, vegetables and spices here, provided there is a store for foreign food (Asia, Turkey or else). But depending on where in Germany you live you can't even get squiid, pig feet or, chicken liver.
Hi there..my son jude loves watching the grass jelly video from u..and because u mentioned that u are in Germany, he wants to go there and find u..hahaha. .so u studied overseas and end up there or are u married there..? Just curious. .we go malacca almost every year for our Christian convention...and u are from malacca right..great nonya food there!
Mark Loke That's really funny..haha. Say hello to your little one! Hopefully your little boy will try out some recipes for you to try one day. :D Nop, I studied in KL :)
Well, it depends on several factors but it's up to you. I've just updated the recipe for you. :) www.nyonyacooking.com/recipes/grass-jelly-drink~SJvRvviDfqW7
I couldn't find a post for pandan so will just ask here. I've tried a few times to blend fresh pandan leaves w/water to get the juice for agar agar jelly. Only problem is the second I taste it, I can only smell and taste the aroma of GRASS! I mind as well go outside to my lawn, kneel down and chew off a mouthful of grass and chase that down with some sugar water. Please let me know how in the world I can mess up by simply putting in finely chopped pandan leaves into a blender w/water and pushing the blend button! Oh and yes I do strain and filter the fibres and only the golf-green grass juice is left! AARGGG!
Not sure if this helps, but you just might not have a taste for fresh pandan. Maybe you're more used to pandan extract or the artificial flavouring? Pandan is a very herbal flavour, and that might be the grass you're referring to. It's usually used for aromatics, so if you're not a fan of it, no one is forcing you to use the fresh leaves, right?
Thanks for the insight - I've used the extract before, and it had too much of a chemical after-taste and had never used it again. You could be right on the unexpected herb flavour(still taste like grass), where the aroma differs from the actual taste of the plant. I now relate this experience to enjoying a glass of freshly squeezed lemonade simply is not the same as sucking on a lemon lol. I wanted to add that in recent years, the pandan leaves we get here in Canada, although imported appears not to be as aromatic as when I remembered back in Malaysia decades ago. I wonder if other people are experiencing this as well, which are likely GMO and lacks the original potency?
+Ken Lee Something else that came to mind, I'm curious if you find cilantro to taste like soap or off-putting in any way? Perhaps it may be the same sort of phenomenon for things like pandan and other herbal-flavoured aromatics? I'm actually from Canada as well, and I personally love the taste of pandan in every which way, especially with coconut milk. If anything, you might have just outgrown the taste and/or you could be right about the quality of the leaves you've been getting ahold of... Either way, good luck finding and trying some of imported kind, eh?
DDJ. Nope I love cilantro's floral essence, especially rough chopped over fish broth or congee. I never knew pandan tasted this herby as you mentioned (guess my palette is still within the norm) - thanks for this. My best memory of a pandan item was the pandan crepe with coconut or peanut filing that they served in the first class lounge at the airport in KK. I rem vividly the pandan aroma was so pungent it over-powered any ingredients within the crepe, hence I don't even rem what filing were used now. I have yet to come across any recipes that was able to bring the pandan aroma/taste to the forefront of other ingredients. Interesting enough with past conversations with my Mom, she also raved about the pandan crepe served in the same lounge in KK dated over 30 years ago! My Mom and I are finicky foodies for sure and this cannot be of coincidence. I wonder if it was still the same chef 25 years later when I visited? lol

What's the point of using grass jelly? I bought a can once and that stuff doesn't really have a taste..
Serjo777 It's like jello...said to have cooling effects to the body.
the texture is nice and the subtle planty flavor is good
Haha..thanks >
