Only got the triangle one right because in English there's the phrase "be there or be square" and being square is the equivalent to not being cool so I was thinking if you're a triangle, you're cool.

as someone who is Japanese but is mostly on the western side of the internet, I didn’t know this slang and in Japan ○ is good/correct, △is almost there/mid and × is bad/incorrect for grading things. So I thought it meant lame.

Oh yeah, I guessed a lot of them based on completely incorrect reasoning and very limited knowledge of Japanese ("rainbow" referring to colors and therefore a visual thing like being 2D, "tsu" as possibly short for "tsugi wa...?" - roughly "and then...?", NDK I didn't know the actual phrase but I did think of "desu ka", which you put after a question, for the DK, and I recognized that last one as a keysmash so it probably meant roughly what "asdfghjkl" does in english)
I got the triangle one correct though my reasoning was that being called a "square" is being seen as lame or a loser. So, a triangle would be cool, right? Lol🔺

Because so many people are just giant weaboos and don't really try to actually learn much of anything from the japanese media they enjoy and just act like they know so much about japan just because of what they listen to/watch. It's funny, since in Chinese, the slang 草 or 艹 stands for 操 which literally means fuck. （the actual words means grass, too. Just like in Japanese) There are also many other terms that derive from the slang, and it is one of if not the most common Chinese slang you can find.
But some of us (especially manga and anime fans) still uses w as a slang for laughing while having probably no idea that w is related with the character 草.

It has similar pronunciation to 操, which is a way of saying fuck.

草 meaning grass in Japanese, also means grass in Chinese. However, it is pronounced Cǎo. Similar pronunciation to 肏 Cào, which is a censored character meaning fuck. So when a Chinese person tries to type fuck, he would type 草.
Imagine the confusion if a Japanese and a Chinese come across this unwittingly.

I got 8 of them correctly and I've only seen "w" and good morning. The rest actually kinda make sense. I think i said "A" on the last one because of the w in the word and it turned out right.
This reminds me so much of 4chan slang development.
One of my favorite examples is on [s4s] where they say "fig newton" which is a development from "newfag" which means new, inexperienced, person.

So I follow a few idols, and this makes video is quite helpfull for reading tweets. I knew about wwwww and tsu, but I did wonder what the grass kanji meant.
The triangle slang is my favorite. I totally get it and would use it if the triangle was easy to find on m keyboard. Lol also the grass one is cool too. I always see the W one, or the Kanji for it. For Thai slang, a "555" means hahaha cause 5 in Thai is ha. Lol I love learning internet slang from other countries. It's so interesting.
