I always find myself coming back to this video every time I start fine-tuning a profile. It’s absolutely crazy to me that Microsoft doesn’t have any official explanations for the majority of these features that they spent so much time creating. Thank you so much for such an easy to digest explanation of all these technical bits I don’t understand! Earned a sub from me.
I work at Microsoft and have even asked on the internal gaming alias what each of the curves and calculation settings do and NO ONE can answer. No on one the software team for the accessories tool, nor anyone on the hardware team for the controller. It's crazy.
Update to anyone reading! If your controller is updated you should be able to chance the color of your Xbox home button! Just discovered this the other day.
I liked that you went into the curves and the discussion on Radial vs Axis Independent vs True Diagonals. I can see use cases for all and I think it depends on the way you want to play games. Radial appears to not discriminate on the direction you move the joystick, it just looks at how far it is away from centre, for me this is ideal for fluid movement in a 3D game like an FPS. For the axis-independent, I can see a real advantage in games where the movements are locked to 2 axes so you can only move up down left or right, such as pokemon for example. The diagonals really don't matter in that case and you can use the joystick for movement and use the instant curve and then be quite lazy about which direction you throw the joystick in. True diagonals is a weird one for me because it would essentially just take the axis-independent square X-Y grid and then re-scale it to fit into a circle which covers the range of movement in the joystick. perhaps it would be more useful for 8-way movement?
as someone who has had 5 elites i can happily say this is a perfect video for new user's, in saying that, the radial option is the best for fps games, i switched over from default not to long ago and the difference is surreal!
Finally managed to find a series 2 Ina store (every store that would sell controllers told me no store in 100 miles had one) which was definitely true a month or 2 ago, the biggest thing that confused me was the trigger deadzones so thank you for explaining how those work
So I've been testing this for a while and I've come to the conclusion that True Diagonals is the best for me. The differences between the 3 settings are so tiny that you probably won't even notice a difference. But when i'm using True Diagonals in a game like Call of Duty, Apex Legends, or other shooters, I feel like my aim and my movement are more precise and i find it easier to stay on target and track the enemies. Idk, it could be placebo, but hey, whatever works. lol
Now I noticed you can't use true diagonals on default stick settings, so aside from true diagonals, which setting are you on for right stick? Smooth? Instant?
Yes I agree I've tinkered with mine for a week and settled on true diagnals on both sticks on every profile. Now I don't quite have the curve for my right stick yet but I'm looking currently
@@absulxsagira589 i think he means on the controller when you click the middle button until you're in the 4th profile or 'default' that the sticks won't be in true diagnals in that state. Everything registers back to original state of Radial. I've already ran into that issues as I needed 2 profiles for just shooters. 1 with no vibration for online and 1 with for campaign. My 3rd is a 2k/sports profile where the left stick is on aggressive at the highest curve and I've seen bigger benefits from those games since. But when I play Forza I have to go to default profile
Axis-Independent seems to be great in golf games. Limits the accidental sway a bit in your swing. Doesn't cancel it out so the games remain fun. Just a slight edge at times when you would hope to get an edge for every game at the price of the controller.
Adam Beamesderfer no no just default left stick is radial right stick is True diagonals both thumb sticks are tightened to the highest setting. The two games I play is call of duty MW sensitivity: 13/13 ads 1.30 linear . Apex look sense is 7 ads 5 response curve steady no dead zone. Im a 12k wraith and 2.67 kd in cod . Spent a solid two weeks adjusting this controller and thats what works best for me. The super. High sense only works with the tightend thumb sticks. Hope that helps!
Adam Beamesderfer yeah I play linear the aim assist is standard. I play 13/13 and the ads is 1.30 on Modern warfare. This is usually super high sense for a standard stick tension but with the sticks tightend all the way its really amazing. Its very useful for reacting extremely quickly without sacrificing fine aim.

Awesome Video! Thank you for your detailed input on what works best for your own personal play style, There aren't to many videos explaining all the settings regarding this controller especially within the app, so any info regarding what people are doing helps. My personal Favorite setting for COD after a month of trial & error are as follows. "Elite Controller Setting" 1. High tension on both Thumbsticks (tall stick right, low stick left) 2. I run 2 upper paddles (jump and crouch) 3. trigger locks on high (And I did adjust the dead zones for each trigger within the app) "Xbox Accessories App" 1. Left Thumbstick is set to Aggressive (turned up 2 levels) Radial. 2. Right Thumbstick is set to Smooth (turned up 2 levels) Radial. 3. Trigger lock Dead zones adjusted. 'In Game Settings" 1. Button Layout Preset is Default 2. Vertical & Horizontal Sensitivity's are set to 8. 3. ADS Sensitivity's are set to Half on both (Right in the middle) 4. Aim Response Curve Type Standard. 5. Aim Assist Standard. I am really enjoying this setup and I hope you all enjoy it as well, let me know what you think! If anyone thinks I should tweak something please let me know so I can try it out.
smooth and true diagonals made my aim amazing on MW and i also use shift mode on a paddle and now i use LB to Change Weapons fire from Auto to single shoot and RB to call my kill streaks im able to do this with out taking my fingers from the sticks loving the Elite V2 ps i use liner in MW settings since i play apex and on apex i read description linear best for Elite Controllers if using a elite sensitivity curve it been amazing for me
I cannot understeand all the informations because my english is not very very good... I still don't know what is best for me playing MW. But I understeand that those 3 options work only if i choose smooth, aggressive etc..... If i choose standard those options will be affect my aim ? @thenextgennow
Alejandro Flores I tried true diagonal and smooth at the max on rainbow six seige and it delayed and was slow at some parts then it became fast then slow again
Fantastic review, I recently purchased a Scuf prestige for xbox. Used it a few times, enjoyed it. Then out of the blue my Xbox broke so had to send it away to get repaired, so been on PS4 for a month, found I was so much more accurate with the PS controller Thumbsticks in comparison. And now selling my Scuf to get the Elite S2 in hopes to mimick the PS controller Thumbsticks 😂
B button takes you back to the profile menu, then you save it to a slot on the controller (like shown on my video) from that screen. There is no other way to do it, if it's not working there must be something not right. Only thing I can think of is if you have your B button mapped to a different function.
@@TheNextGenNow mine did this the other day, i had only set one profile up and had gone in to edit it, was making changes but then none of the buttons a,b,x,y would work. Had to home screen and go back in to accessories app. Started modifying again and same happened, so home screened killed app and restarted. Profile one was gone but had been replaced with profile two??? but again none of the buttons would work only sticks. I put controller in default mode killed app again went back in profile one was there as i'd set it up previous and profile was gone!?! Weird but alls good now.
The shortest hair trigger lock on my controller was defective and I had to return mine. A lot of people are having the same problem on the Amazon reviews. Also, the brightness adjustment for the XBOX button did nothing to the brightness of my controller.
What I have noticed with the elite series 2 compared to the series 1 is that when I use the trigger locks on the series 2, the software registers full input rather than let's say 50% like it would on the series 1. This messes with me with racing games when I liked to have ads off for braking and rely on the trigger lock to not lock up tires/brakes.
I can’t believe Microsoft doesn’t say a word about the “true diagonals” feature. Radial and axis independent are not only obvious, but can easily be seen in the stick output display on the right. But true diagonals seems to be the same as radial to me and it really bothers me that I can’t find an accurate description of what it is. Like for your description, I don’t understand why radial wouldn’t already be calculating the diagonals correctly. Still, you did a better job at speculating than anything else I’ve heard. It would also be nice to know how this interacts with games. Like if a game is already doing an axis independent to radial conversion then you definitely wouldn’t want to use radial.
Radial calculates through degrees on a 360 plus distance from the center, it's still somehow locked down to positions based on those. True diagonal works more like say a mouse would, you're moving on a plane and have almost infinite positions, so it tends to be more accurate regarding positioning for say a shooter, but a radial might work better for movement where games might register only certain directions up/down/left/right and an amount of diagonal inbetweens, which might create a more accurate input on your left thumbstick.
@@StyleComptoir "like a mouse" sounds more like axis independent to me, where it is reading the x and y position of the stick instead of the angle and distance from center. I'm not sure what you mean by infinite positions or why any of the three options would be more accurate than the others. I would think accuracy would be determined by hardware and these different modes are simply different methods for interpreting the data and relaying it to the game. Do you have a source for what you are saying? Maybe it will make more sense to me. The main thing I don't understand is why axis independent and radial show different output in the preview while true diagonals looks identical to radial as far as I can tell.
You really did a good job of helping me understand, thanks. I was wondering why my car ( forza ) would slam its brakes with the softest touch. Thanks again!
Great video mate! Would be interested to see your MW profile if possible? I have tried using instant on the right stick but found my aim jumped unpredictably at times. Maybe turning the curve adjustment down would help? Not sure but as soon as I switched back to default it felt better.
What should i do sports games such as NHL? Want it to use back triggers for LS Speed Burts. But dont want any drift or timing off. Just like normal controller but with a button mapping
So is it not possible to map multiple button inputs to one button or paddle? For example let’s say I’m playing a game and I need to press LT and RT at the same time can I pair both of those buttons to the click of just one?? ☝️
Hey man, great video. I’ve been trying to experiment with my Elite 2 controller and this video helps a lot. I’m just a little confused still on the thumb stick sensitivity curves. I understand that the white line represents the physical movement off the stick. But, does the colored line represent the on screen/in game action as it’s happening in real time?
You've probably found out by now, but yeah the blue line shows what the game registers at vs the white line where it is where you are actually moving the stick
I prefer the xim nexus. Hear me out! It has a feature where you can fine tune exactly how you’re aim curve is. I use an exponential aim curve. It allows me to be precise and slower when I need to be and then move quickly if I need to also. You don’t get nearly the same level of customization on any other controller
isn’t it able to just negate any recoil in games? or games like apex it can rapid fire on single tap weapons? personally i think those options are cheating. i don’t think anyone should support XIM or ZEN devices.
@@UniqueGentlemen my point is that I don’t like how little customization elite controllers actually have. And why do people like you always go for KD? Maybe I play racing games and like to fine tune smaller movements for turns and don’t want to shell out hundreds of dollars for a wheel and pedals.
Maybe a dumb question. I play racing games and when driving without ABS and TC the PlayStation controller is really good because of the adaptive triggers so you don’t lock your breaks or wheelspin. Is it exactly like that with this controller?
You're the only one who really explained the curves feature.

Thanks for watching and sharing your settings!
smooth and true diagonals made my aim amazing on MW and i also use shift mode on a paddle and now i use LB to Change Weapons fire from Auto to single shoot and RB to call my kill streaks im able to do this with out taking my fingers from the sticks loving the Elite V2 ps i use liner in MW settings since i play apex and on apex i read description linear best for Elite Controllers if using a elite sensitivity curve it been amazing for me
Great to hear, it's fantastic to be able to customise so many things!
I cannot understeand all the informations because my english is not very very good... I still don't know what is best for me playing MW. But I understeand that those 3 options work only if i choose smooth, aggressive etc..... If i choose standard those options will be affect my aim ? @thenextgennow
They still have an effect on Default too.
iTzPedroHDi do you do both sticks on smooth?
@@GOATYeeYee no left on aggressive on Radial calculation
Just found this video and it was extremely helpful! Thank you for taking the time to making the video for us!
You are welcome!
I can’t Bluetooth Xbox elite 2 to my iPhone. But a regular Xbox one controller works.
Thankfully this video help me so much to understand what should I really do.
Great in depth video as I've been trying to work out what all these settings do
I'm glad it helped, thanks for letting me know 👍🏻
Awesome video, have been so confused setting up the sticks.
Bro, you need to try true diagonal and instant sensitivity curve, it plays butter smooth like pc gaming, (on modern game)
Alejandro Flores what notch do you play on instant
TŌxic V0rt3x ツ 3 notch
Alejandro Flores I tried true diagonal and smooth at the max on rainbow six seige and it delayed and was slow at some parts then it became fast then slow again
Alejandro Flores I wonder why no one uses true diagonal
TŌxic V0rt3x ツ because they dont try out haha
Thank you explaining really good for everyone I’m getting my Elite 2 soon
Whats the best thumbstick set up for walking simulators ??
Fantastic review, I recently purchased a Scuf prestige for xbox. Used it a few times, enjoyed it. Then out of the blue my Xbox broke so had to send it away to get repaired, so been on PS4 for a month, found I was so much more accurate with the PS controller Thumbsticks in comparison. And now selling my Scuf to get the Elite S2 in hopes to mimick the PS controller Thumbsticks 😂
This was a very thorough video, thank you
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
How get you back to the profile menu? I can’t confirm my settings
You just go back with the B button.
It’s not working😭
It goes to default
Nice video with clear, precise and detailed explanations of all settings. Thank you much.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
The shortest hair trigger lock on my controller was defective and I had to return mine. A lot of people are having the same problem on the Amazon reviews. Also, the brightness adjustment for the XBOX button did nothing to the brightness of my controller.
Rule #1... buy expensive controllers in person NOT online in order to have a guarantee working controller out of the box.
The light adjust when u back out the accessories app
Thank you sir. I finally found a video that actually explains about the curve settings. Thank you again so much!! Great job 👍👍
I'm glad my video helped you!
Thanks you so much this will make my games and general gameplay a lot more fun and enjoyable
Thank bro I just bought it I wanted to know more about the controller
Best video out there bye far...thanks again
Thanks!
Thorough explanation thanks man!
Glad my video helped you!
Thank you for the video covering this. This is the best reference I have found when it comes to thumbstick settings. Great job!
Can map right trigger to right bumper?
Yes. In the customization settings, you can map it just how you like it👍
@@maxchestnut5076 yessir. I bought it. Thanks though!!
what would anyone recommend for rainbow six ? the curves is what i’m referring too
I still don’t know how to do custom mapping for the back buttons , specifically for playing COD Warzone.
Omg !!! You really done it !!! ❤️❤️😅😅 I waited this moment 😎😎😎
Thanks 😊👍🏻
You really did a good job of helping me understand, thanks. I was wondering why my car ( forza ) would slam its brakes with the softest touch. Thanks again!
Glad it helped!

Thank u so much just got one and was so confused
I wish they supported a mouse and keyboard mapping feature so you can play some older games with the controller as well
I prefer the xim nexus.
Weirdo 😂, ‘I prefer’ on a breakdown video. And probably still below 1KD in every game he cheats on
@@UniqueGentlemen my point is that I don’t like how little customization elite controllers actually have. And why do people like you always go for KD? Maybe I play racing games and like to fine tune smaller movements for turns and don’t want to shell out hundreds of dollars for a wheel and pedals.
Thanks for the help. Now I know how to use the control better.
Glad I helped you a bit :)
@@TheNextGenNow Thank you. 🎮
Amazing guide thank you brother for making this.
Glad it was helpful!
What type of curve do you recommend for the aim?
Maybe a dumb question. I play racing games and when driving without ABS and TC the PlayStation controller is really good because of the adaptive triggers so you don’t lock your breaks or wheelspin. Is it exactly like that with this controller?
You really feel the lack of range and instability on the sticks in RocketLeague. Different spots on the stick make you turn quicker and more erratic.
Thank you for these explanations
What would the elite series 2 settings be if you where playing a fighting game like for honor or mortal kombat
