Thank you for clarifying the two styles. I experienced an instructor from Houston TX hosting a seminar in CA in late 2022. The instructor told everyone the “CA version,” or your mentioned “social style” was only danced in CA and was the wrong way to dance the NC 2-Step. The instructor even said that “is not” NC 2-Step upon seeing the leg sway. The instructor then demonstrated your sliding “competitive style” and said that was the way it is danced in the rest of the country. So the instructor told everyone to discard the leg sway version. Considering the NC 2-Step was created in So. CA by Buddy Schwimmer as the “social style” I took issue with the opinion. Seems the instructor believes the Ballroom style is the only legitimate style. But hats off to you for explaining the styles and accepting both. A true professional!
Thank you! In most styles of dance there is not just one way to do things.Instructors need to be mindful of that and say that this may be a version more widely done now but the other version is not wrong.

We have so much to talk about, new friend. Murray’s doesn’t teach the current social style and I’m not sure I want to go back to the old way.
