    Hi Brian and Megan, We're big fans of ALL your different websites and really enjoy ALL your lessons provided. In particular, we greatly appreciate your easy to understand and thorough descriptions of the different moves and routines. The individual moves are easy to remember and yet, combine into wonderful patterns that are practical but still have the "WOW" factor on a social dancefloor. Just wanted to know if you could perhaps provide some other dip options (maybe a separate video?) for women that don't enjoy being dipped so extremely. Thanks so much and looking forward to all your future dance videos!!!

    To clarify, is this a 6 count dance move for 8 count music, like east coast swing?

    • @SocialDanceOnline

      Hello, the first 5-6 moves in foxtrot will be done to slow slow quick quick or 12, 34, 5, 6. So yes it is like east coast swing for certain moves.

    I suggest mentioning that in the dip, the follower should protect herself (and the Leader's back) by supporting herself with her feet/legs. Meaning, she should be almost able to do the dip by herself. The Leader merely provides additional support for the dip and more support in bring her up. The follower should NOT plunge too eagerly backwards.

    • @SocialDanceOnline
      @SocialDanceOnline  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is why followers hips should stay up. The moment the follower drops their hips the leader gets all their weight.

  • @DrDavidMarion9

    How do you count by 8's with these steps? I end up with a count of "6" at the end of S-S-Q-Q. Am I supposed to pause?

    • @SocialDanceOnline
      @SocialDanceOnline  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the first basic will count to 6 then the second basic will start with 7. So you will count straight 8's and not start over. There wont be a pause to fill out the 7,8. So basic 1 12,34, 5,6. second basic 78,12,3,4. etc.

    How important is it that both partners are very familiar with each other and the steps that they are trying to do? I took lessons more than 40 years ago at a studio in Philadelphia. Linda Dean was my first teacher but her dance career took her to New York City and bigger things. I continued to have good teachers even went to Montreal for competition where I was entered into 3 dances over two years coming in first once and second twice.
    Dancing in the studio parties in Philly I always had problems dancing with other students to the point where it frustrated me. I asked one member of the teaching staff what I was doing wrong.and the answer presented went something like this. While in Montreal you were dancing with a partner who taught you the steps you were taking and also was very familiar with you and how you performed those steps. At these studio parties you are dancing with other students who were not familiar with your movements and lead. You will do better the more you dance with other students because your leading skills will become stronger.
    Does this make sense? Unfortunately I was unable to keep dancing but I always remember how easily it was to dance with my instructors and Linda in particular would move like a feather in a breeze.
    Thanks for the memories.

    • @SocialDanceOnline
      @SocialDanceOnline  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes the teacher was correct. When you dance with someone a lot you get used to them and how they feel.
      But for social dancing, to get better and feel comfortable social dancing you would just have to do it more. Get used to a variety of different partners.

    Im 70. I basically learned foxtrot with my dad in the 50s and 60s at many family weddings. My somewhat older cousins learned basic ballroom dance in PE. By the time I was in high school nobody knew a basic waltz but just sway not even box step which I also learned dancing with elderly relatives. I watch todays weddings and just shake my head. Sigh.

    I just don’t like that high right hand for the leader.
    It just looks less familiar/intimate/passionate with your partner to me.

    • @SocialDanceOnline
      @SocialDanceOnline  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's just a ballroom hold. You don't have to hold it that high socially, however I would avoid going to low on a partner that is not your significant other. Also the higher hold will help you lead more effectively.

    • @elijahrobinson2362
      @elijahrobinson2362 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SocialDanceOnline thanks for the reply.
      For me, dancing would be more personal with a partner so the high hold isn’t what I consider as ‘warm’.
      I am by no means anywhere near the level of even a regular casual dancer who can dance many ballroom styles, but I find that a lower hand has never been a problem for leading the dances I prefer.
      That’s just me. Maybe I’m getting too old and old fashioned 🤷🏻‍♂️

    People using PC language is such a joke! Please simply say…ladies and gentlemen. Leaders and followers just sounds real silly. Otherwise the vid is good.

    • @SocialDanceOnline
      @SocialDanceOnline  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thank you for your kind words about the video. I'm sorry that you think that I'm a joke for referencing leaders and followers. 😔 I'm actually not a very "PC" person. As a teacher you're always hunting for the best way to communicate and those words seem to be the best terms to communicate. The terms "Leader & Follower" speak to the rolls and responsibilities of the partners and seem to be the best ones I've found. You could go down the rabbit hole of "Girls & Boys (perhaps speaking to a younger audience), Ladies & Gentlemen (perhaps speaking a more mature audience) but since I'm not sure who I'm speaking to on the other side of the video I chose to speak more about the roles in the dance partnership. I hope you can forgive me for trying my best. Best wishes, -Brian B

    • @StevenLAdams

      @@SocialDanceOnline "Leader" and "Follower" seem to be standard industry terminology in defining the role of the various dance partners. We use those terms up here in North Idaho. Love your videos. Gives me new things to bring to my teacher so she can help me lead them correctly.
