For people who are wondering, the 9.0 released in August 2024 just requires you to add a non steam game with Memoria Patcher. Add the patcher in the game folder before adding to non steam game otherwise it won't work. Eventually change the Proton Version and enjoy !
What's the difference between this version and 9.0? I want to try this mod, it seems pretty straight forward, but if there's a better version I should probably go for that! Any tutorials for the 9.0 version?

I think FF8 is generally regarded as the weakest of the PlayStation 1 Final Fantasies, but it has very cool card minigame. Also, if you're into customizing your characters up to totally breaking the game, FF8 should give you plenty of fun!

In regards to save data. It seems that while the steam cloud saving does not work between steam deck and desktop, the "cloud data" option in the title screen (which I assume uses squenix's servers) does seem to function and allows you to play on different platforms without needing to manually transfer saves ^-^

Did you restart after installation was complete? Does the moguri launcher appear as expected on desktop mode? Also, you could double check your internal disk is not full and that Steam didn't sneakily install Final Fantasy on the SD-card
@Joonamo Thank you for replying! It turned out to be a space issue. There needs to be around 20gb free and I only had 18gb. The 64gb model fills quickly, so an upgrade for internal storage is recommended.
Hey, I followed your guide but after installing Moguri mod and launching ff9 it goes straight in game. I restarted my steam deck as well and the Moguri launcher still doesn't show up, any ideas? Thanks!
Just incase anyone runs into the same problem, after installing moguri mod and before opening ff9, change the compatibility of ff9 to the latest release of proton or experimental. This made the launcher show up when opening ff9.
Can't even get the launcher to pop up. Get an error that there isn't enough space on the disk to install, even though there is plenty. Not sure what's happening.
Followed the instructions, but when I click Launch on the mod settings screen it just goes to a black screen. Game was working fine before that. Not sure where to go from here.
Or just do it all on your pc, then copy the game folder to your steam deck and replace all files there, that should be identical to this tutorial, right?
Thanks for this. I had one issue. When I was done with everything, and ready to launch the game from the Moguri Launcher, I could not scroll down to the highest resolution as you did. I could only see up to 3200x1800 and I did not know how to scroll down further from there.
Sounds like something might have changed how Steam OS handles scaling. I think 1800 px high resolution should be plenty enough. 1440 is already 2x of the Deck screen in 16:9 game and 4k is really only "needed" when you play the game in an external 1080p screen. But if you want the best you can get, you could try if you can see the full list in desktop mode and/or when connected to external screen 🤔
