Now granted, they could be saving that for either next Summer or 2020 to plan it through some more. But looking at how almost consistently Chima and Nexo Knights have performed, I'm becoming slightly scared that Lego may be more complacent on their licensed themes and only have Ninjago as their truly original property. But even then, they're going back to the first three years with their upcoming Legacy line. While that's cool for the newer fans and some of the sets look better than their originals, it kinda feels telling that maybe that theme might be running short of its imagination spark. I won't give up on the hope of Lego making another successful story theme, Castle or otherwise, as long as they still have designers who will still come up with great and imaginative designs. I really hope for some sort of Space theme. All the factions throughout the 90’s, surely at least one, maybe two could be worthy of a revival. Great episode. Y'know it's funny how Knights Kingdom represented that 2000's edginess while Nexo Knights represented the tech-heavy aesthetic like we've seen in sets from LEGO in this decade
I always loved this line’s proto-contraction style. I think the compromise between bricks and figures within this line could be reused for a third Bonkle generation if it ever happens.
Ah, yes. This takes me back. I got the five sets of those joint figures, Jakyo the Quick, Danju the Clever, Santis the Strong, Rascus the Joker and Vladek the Traitor. I even played those flash games based on the figures. Pity they stopped being available before Flash died recently. Good times.
I get nostalgic with Knight's Kingdom 2. I liked both the sets and buildable figs, but esp. the sets (I guess my buildable fig love belonged to Bionicle). My brother and I got the first castle for Christmas and it was the coolest and biggest set in our Lego collection. We also had 2 of the figs (our favorites), the bridge crossing, and the citadel (next Christmas). So many great play features (traps, action features, hidden secrets), new pieces, the online comics and flash games to add to the lore, the playing cards hinting at a bigger world, the story and characters (having them all included in the castle was awesome!). Never got any sets after the first year, I didn't feel like starting over with the updated minifigs. Thanks man, great video!
I really like the old "Knight's Kingdom" theme (with Jayko, Danju, Vladek etc.), the old color schemes were really beautiful and the characters were pretty creative. One thing that always stuck out to me was the old blue hue, I really liked the cobalt/ultramarine color, which I've never seen again in any other themes. The armor, swords, and shields were also really unique, never saw anything like that. I still remember finding one in a toy store in Europe many years after the theme was cancelled, I was so excited to get it. Of course the newer medieval themes were also really awesome, especially when the introduced the chrome-plated swords. In general I loved those themes.
@@BazukinBelyugovich The color schemes and new pieces were fantastic. If Lego ever does another knight/castle theme, I hope they take some inspirations from Knight's Kingdom
Way late. But here's a quick explanation as to why Lego retired some colors back in the day. Why we are now seeing them return, and why things like Metalic Green will sadly probably not be on the list anytime soon. Back in the day, up until fairly recently (2014-15'ish) All colors came directly from plastic pellets provided by Bayer. Lego bought plastic precolored. So for special colors such as metalics etc, they mainly just had to order them. The big limiting factor was inventory control. They could only have as many active colors in the factory as they had silo space for to store the pellets. (this is why early sets had very limited color pallets. And some color combinations would be similar across themes in the same production period). Also each color of each part becomes it's own inventory management headache in the warehouse. The great purge of obscure colors and part tooling occurred as Lego recovered from their near bankruptcy in the early 2000's. Part of the findings then was Lego was losing too much money stockpiling vasy quantities of limited purpose stuff in their warehouses. They had to streamline to better manage their logistics chain. Thus the color pallet was trimmed and the one in one out rule was established for a time. To get a new color one had to be retired. But 10 years later technology changed the game. With their modernized factories Lego now mostly buys neutral colored pellets (generally a translucent whitish color) and injects the color dye into the molten plastic on the factory floor as needed. This means they can much more easily rework for different colors almost on the fly. And they can produce the colored parts as needed without having to warehouse vast quantities or overruns. They can pretty much do color on demand. But there are some trade offs with this. The first, and the one most commonly bitched about by Lego fans, is part to part, batch to batch there will be slightly more color variation between parts. Especially blues and yellows. Under strong lighting you might see minor variations as they are no longer using perfect color matched pellets from the plastic factory and instead are machine mixing on the fly. Where people get it wrong is they think this is a QC issue. It's not. It is a minor sacrifice in order to go to a much more powerful production system. One that allows a much broader pallet of colors per set. Every set. Your yellows may not be 100% perfectly matching now. They may only match to 98%. But that gives you back teal, and salmon, and all the Friends colors. And the autumn leaves in the treehouse, etc. The other negative or sacrifice is there are some types of colors that the color injection system just can't do or do well. Pearlescent Metalics for example. Those they still need to get pellets for. But with the ability to do most coloring on the fly, they are less likely to bulk buy special pellets just for some special project. So they work around with what they can do via color injection.
when you pointed out people (including me, initially) being turned off by the Nexo-Knights' medieval-futurism, I suddenly realized... that's literally just _Final Fantasy_ _FFXIV_ in particular has a ridiculous pendulum of going between realistic/enchanted weaponry and hi-tech mechanical versions of swords, shields, staves, books, etc.
Nexo Knights is what got me into buying sets again. They felt nice an chunky like a lot of toys when I had when I was younger felt, and for the longest time I was just using Bricklink, the local hobby shop's lego bin, or the occasional second hand store's massive discounts.
I still remember picking up a Karzon set from a local shop from some spare money when i was a kid. It came in an aluminium canister wich really surprised me because i was used to the simple boxes. I'm planning to buy these sets again, same with the old Bionicle sets.
I'm honestly baffled that in late TWENTY EIGHTEEN there are still people that get really uppity about Bionicle. You got to wonder how old many of these people are. It's just so baffling to me.
@@borby4584 Fun fact, the Toa and Matoran are not robots... not quite. They have a mostly mechanical outer shell, but they have living organs and muscle tissue. They are very much alive.
Bionicle’s end was a devistating moment in 2010. The rerun just was not right. It felt like hero factory more then its predecessor. Well we know that it’s never coming back. Life changes.
Oh man, I almost forgot about those. I used to LOVE them. Very refreshing design and smooth action of the hands lead to me playing with them a ton as a child
Another thing about the Nexo Knights’ rock villains is I remember being unable to distinguish them from the background on the box art. I took a look at “The Three Brothers” in store and couldn’t figure out just what it was supposed to be.
Great video! I still have the original King Leo's castle lying on the floor of my bedroom. It's one of those sets that because I love it so much and has a place in my heart, I never demolished it and still have it in my room after all these years. :) It's a shame that I never bought a ton of Knights Kingdom 2 sets because they came out when I'm in secondary school and college and I lost interest in Lego during that time. But I still wish I had Lord Vladek's castle because my God, that set still looks as cool as Skeletor's Snake Mountain even to this day. And Nexo Knights was actually the line that made me love Lego again. I was very excited when this line came out that I actually bought most of the sets from its first year. I have the Fortrex which is very cool and I still have it proudly displayed in my room and I absolutely love the lava monsters. But I agree the second year is where the line goes downhill because the villains are less cooler this time mainly because they are boring old grey. The techno villains in the following year were much cooler but sadly, at that point, I've lost interest in Nexo Knights and I understand why Lego cancelled the line afterwards. I felt sad that the line got cancelled because it had every potential to be the next Ninjago. But I will always fondly remember the first year of Nexo Knights and thanks to that line, I got interested in playing with Lego again.
I have yet to buy any Nexo Knights sets (self publishing a graphic novel series ain't cheap) but I MIGHT get some sets from the final wave. Looking back, I think it might be the best of the five (two for year one, year two, etc).
10:19 There it is. The one and only Knight's Kingdom set I own. It was a cool set, the castle was pretty big and it had a lot of minifigs. The coolest part IMO was the little dungeon under the throne room/gate structure. You just take the whole green plate off and... boom! Dungeon! Pretty sweet. Also, that cast-iron looking gritty metallic texture? Hands-down one of the BEST textures ever used on a Lego piece.
I remember each week my mum would take me up to the newsagents and we would get one of the Knights. Happy times then i got the castle for christmas once. Biggest present i ever had
Knights Kingdom I was my Castle theme. I really wish I had grown up with the Black Falcons and older themes, but the ones I had will always hold a place in my heart.
I found all of my Knight's Kingdom figures in a box, all complete. I never forget the comics in the instructions, I was playing with all these sets for hours and hours when I was younger. Thanks for this awesome video.
That was a great video, with a lot of information but not overwhelming. I will try to buy some nexo knights. Also, Dude, that lion to scorpion castle transformation. I need it. As far as you know, has someone already made a MOC of it?
While I am a primarily LEGO Star Wars collector right now, the Castle sets with the Skeletons versus the Knights came out in the prime time for me, and boy did I love it. It was Lord of the Rings before they made those sets. I had a friend who got all the GOOD GUY sets and I loved getting the BAD GUY sets, specifically the ORC/TROLL wave and we would bring our collection together to make stop motions and play around and would be entertained for hours.
The set at 2:45 was the first set I was ever given, I’m pretty sure on my fourth birthday, and even though I’ve lost a lot of the parts I still have the horses, that stained glass window, and the king’s head is currently the face of my main fantasy castle Brikwars faction, the last piece of the oldest fig in my collection. It’s funny actually, the guy that writes the rules for Brikwars, Mike Rayhawk, also did the original character designs for the Knights Kingdom II era. Certain LEGO related things just seem to stick around in one way or another.
I have so much nostalgia for Knights Kingdom. I remember getting the figures and playing the online flash games on the website. I was so invested in the world.
One thing I can say is that I had one of those as a kid and I used it a lot as a punch pillow. Of course I didn't punch them with full fist or just activelly trying to break it, but it was satisfying to wach them pop out if you throw them really fast at a couch or something. Never broke it, i wish I knew where it is.
funfact: this 0:30 was my first ever lego set that I got on christmas when I was 4. seeing this almost made me cry. it's astounding how the brain works. you see a glimpse of something youd held in your hands almost 20 years ago and get overwhelmed by memories of moments you shared with your parents, grandparents and how your house looked and smelled so different... the bionicle-styled knights were pretty cool too. another shortlived series with great first 2 years (morningstar and metallic textures!!) that sadly fizzles out without a satisfying conclusion
As a child these were some of my favorite sets. I remember wanting that castle that could change sides sooo badly. I should try to buy one now that I'm older 😂
Knights Kingdom 2 was my first real taste of how amazing Lego can be, and I feel like I'll always remember it every now and then for how influential it ended up being on me. Also around the 12 minute mark is when I started questioning when I stopped getting Lego catalogs.
i grew up with these sets i remember getting vladeks fortress for christmas it was so grand and probably the largest set i ever had and it went so well with the other castle, i wish nexoknights was a thing back then however i bet it would have been one of my fav lego themes
I had all of the buildable figures, unfortunately left them at a friends house, shortly after we stopped being friends and they just got lost there ugh. Miss them, honestly some of my favorites/most nostalgic toys
I wish the Glatorian wave from Bionicle was like Matoran-sized builds protecting, other matoran sized builds. that's why I believe BobTheDoctor27's STARs mocs of 2009 are pretty cool.
I remember getting the wizards tower when i was younger. I originally wanted the castle that converted to both good and bad colour coding. But i was so happy when i got that set regardless. One of the best xmas gifts i ever had! 😊
Imagine Lego bringing back some old themes like Knight's kingdom II, Alpha team, Adventurers and Exoforce... they had some pretty badass ideas back in the day that could've been even cooler with the modern pieces of today. The dark age of the late 90s-early 2000s really brought out the best from lego creativity-wise, even though constraction might not fly as well any more. Those characters and stories, although pretty similar for the most part, resonated with lots of kids much better than the random policemen, firefighters and other citizens of Lego city
I can imagine if Knights Kingdom 2 came out during the time of Chima they wouldve made those animal base-castles a thing. nice video keep up the good work
Well, The Lion Temple set from the LEGO Legends of CHIMA theme *_is_* a lion-themed castle as it is (sort of) shaped like a lion in some parts of it; the Eagle Castle set (also from the LEGO Legends of CHIMA theme) is (sort of) shaped like an Eagle; and the Croc Swamp Hideout set from the same LEGO theme as the previous 2 LEGO sets *_is_* shaped like a crocodile at the front - so...
I/m surprised you didn't talk about Chima here; in its earliest concept art, it was literally an army of lion people fighting an army of scorpion people. It also included those animal castles.
The crossover part sounds pretty cool, did pick up the Hero Factory set with the giant creatures an the Minifig size bots going up against the giant. Did have the Knights Kindom villain for the line, still have the character as well as some Bionicle from the early 2000's as well. Did not know that the Bionicle line had a play set, found out only with in the last year an would not mind finding them peaces still together. As for the castle going from one form to another sounds cool around 9:07 transforming would be something cool to see if Lego was to go back an bring the idea out in somewy, beside Chima having the animal look an Nexo Knights castle and Fortrex combining was cool the idea sounds pretty cool.
So I was just binge watching some of TJOmega's older reviews, and I keep finding you everywhere dude. Also, it's very interesting to know that there was an "Original" Knights Kingdom before the 2004 version.

Great episode. Y'know it's funny how Knights Kingdom represented that 2000's edginess while Nexo Knights represented the tech-heavy aesthetic like we've seen in sets from LEGO in this decade
Knights kingdom II is literally why my favorite color is purple, you make my favorite animal purple. young impressionable me!
Good times.
There was also the Knights Kingdom Chess box with a board and 32 figures. I loved it :)
Man this brings back so many memories. I completely forgot about actually owning many of those sets/knights).
12:47 love those orange spike rings on the right. Theyre from old sets
Just when I thought "Shadiversity should review some of these" you actually said it ^^
Now if we can just get this in front of his eyes.
Ha, I love how much the video begins to fade into Bionicle, right before it’s pulled quickly back.
when you pointed out people (including me, initially) being turned off by the Nexo-Knights' medieval-futurism, I suddenly realized...
that's literally just _Final Fantasy_
_FFXIV_ in particular has a ridiculous pendulum of going between realistic/enchanted weaponry and hi-tech mechanical versions of swords, shields, staves, books, etc.
Nexo Knights is what got me into buying sets again. They felt nice an chunky like a lot of toys when I had when I was younger felt, and for the longest time I was just using Bricklink, the local hobby shop's lego bin, or the occasional second hand store's massive discounts.
You have just made me realise how different Lego is becoming in terms of its themes and direction. Its thought-provoking.
Keep up the great work!
I think I had all the Knight's Kingdom 2004 sets. So much fun building Mathias' castle.
I still remember picking up a Karzon set from a local shop from some spare money when i was a kid. It came in an aluminium canister wich really surprised me because i was used to the simple boxes. I'm planning to buy these sets again, same with the old Bionicle sets.
Man this knights kingdom 2 was such a part of my childhood, me and my little brother would get the foam swords and shields even, such a nostalgia trip
I'm honestly baffled that in late TWENTY EIGHTEEN there are still people that get really uppity about Bionicle. You got to wonder how old many of these people are. It's just so baffling to me.
lol welp I'm a fan of bionicle then I'll say but yeah I love bionicle before all the robotic stuff came in and took over lol
I'll have you know you cretin
Polruss Tomakriss ...when did they NOT have robots??????
@@borby4584 Fun fact, the Toa and Matoran are not robots... not quite. They have a mostly mechanical outer shell, but they have living organs and muscle tissue. They are very much alive.
Bionicle’s end was a devistating moment in 2010. The rerun just was not right. It felt like hero factory more then its predecessor. Well we know that it’s never coming back. Life changes.
Oh man, I almost forgot about those. I used to LOVE them. Very refreshing design and smooth action of the hands lead to me playing with them a ton as a child
I remember getting a little kid Matthias for his birthday and when he opened it, he said "It's the King Binonicle!"
Yeah, uh, sure kid.
It's a shame that I never bought a ton of Knights Kingdom 2 sets because they came out when I'm in secondary school and college and I lost interest in Lego during that time.
Looking back, I think it might be the best of the five (two for year one, year two, etc).
nick: zooms in on green knight
also nick: L E W A
This theme was my childhood. Thank you for covering it.
I forgot so many Lego Sets I owned a decade ago. But watching your channel helps me remember again. I'm really thankful for that.
I had the red knight!! Man what a nostalgia hit this was!
I absolutely love the plastic shields. I really wanted to collect them all. I lost my Danju Shield unfortunately, but my Santis one is still around.
I remember each week my mum would take me up to the newsagents and we would get one of the Knights.
Happy times
then i got the castle for christmas once.
Biggest present i ever had
Dang. Those Borg like enemies would be great for star trek brickfilms!
Knights Kingdom I was my Castle theme. I really wish I had grown up with the Black Falcons and older themes, but the ones I had will always hold a place in my heart.
THAT THUMBNAIL BROUGHT BACK SO MANY MEMORIES
Themes talked about in this video:
Knights Kingdom 1 2000
Knights Kingdom 2 2004-2006
Nexo Knights 2016-2018
2021 Crusader line?
Hmmm
I found all of my Knight's Kingdom figures in a box, all complete.
I never forget the comics in the instructions, I was playing with all these sets for hours and hours when I was younger.
Thanks for this awesome video.
geez would love to see this line to hit back nowadays, and see these chars brought again to life with CCBS
Dark times are awaiting lego, and this time, bionicle won't save them.
Özgür Fırat BOZ Want to bet?
@@Raidmasterprod Due to how every thing and form of media I like gets thrown to the curb, I'm betting my money against a constraction/ccbs savior
@deathwingrocks What do you mean? Are they realising new ccbs?
Yeah, The LEGO Company seems to have *_*really*_* has lost its way!!! ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️
Dude LEGO got up to 4 billion dollars this decade and last decade (2000s) they were at about 1 or 2 million. 90% of the millions comes fro bionicle.
Btw great background music. Just finished replaying all metal slug games again.
That was a great video, with a lot of information but not overwhelming. I will try to buy some nexo knights.
Also, Dude, that lion to scorpion castle transformation.
I need it. As far as you know, has someone already made a MOC of it?
I don't think so.
Claudio Bizama finally, someone who likes that set!
I had that castle. We always played a war just so we had a reason to switch the castle's banners. Was a pretty neat set.
This was one of the sets I always fantasized about buying while reading old instruction books, so nostalgic but never got one in the end
Vladek is a really cool name for villain
So happy somebody finally gave Nexo Knights it’s due.
Your introduction sequences fill me with so much nostalgia
I have so much nostalgia for Knights Kingdom. I remember getting the figures and playing the online flash games on the website. I was so invested in the world.
Damn! Those animal shaped castles for Knights Kingdom 2, such missed opportunities for Lego...
Very Chima-esque.
I vaguely remember knights kingdom 2 , but I didn't have any. Shows you how in tune I was with what was going on in the lego world.
"nExo KNigHts iS ReAlLy baD, it's jUst DoeSN't MaKE SenSE!"
Warhammer 40k: amma joke to ya!?
If LEGO continues to make more LEGO Castle themes, I will be amazed. 9:34
Knights Kingdom 1 could do with a prequel theme due to reasons explained later on in episode 26
Nexo Knights must have come and gone while I was extra busy finishing growing up and leaving town for work. I would have loved it!
This just unlocked a childhood memory I forgot I had…
As a child these were some of my favorite sets. I remember wanting that castle that could change sides sooo badly. I should try to buy one now that I'm older 😂
As a kid I did my first lemonade stand to buy the first wave of the figures. Good times 😌
I was THREE years old when I first saw a knights kingdom lego, you really just had to be there. They dont make them like this anymore
I had the castle. I loved the castle. I love the castle. All hail the first castle.
"Johnny Thunder a renaissance fair"
10/10
Dig the shad plug. Love that guy’s vids
I had so many sets from this line! I miss it!
i never had any of the nexo knight's gargoyle sets as a kid but i always wanted them because they looked so cool.
Gosh I have so many of the year 2.5 sets for the Knights' Kingdom 2. Takes me back.
I remember the Knights Kingdom books
I just got major flashbacks to Cedric. I remember fighting that guy in lego island 2. the nostalgia...
I hated Cedric in LI2. The developers clearly didn't do their homework on Knights Kingdom 1.
7:30
You kinda got your wish in the form the canonized designs for the rest of the toa hagah.
I loved Bionicle as a kid and my history nerd self lost it when Knight's kingdom(2) came out. I loved those toys so much.
I remember getting the wizards tower when i was younger. I originally wanted the castle that converted to both good and bad colour coding. But i was so happy when i got that set regardless. One of the best xmas gifts i ever had! 😊
I had all of them, you deadass just remembered me my whole childhood
I loved those comics they made. Jayko was my favorite one even before he became king. Danju was pretty cool too.
Ah this was both informative and Nostalgic. Knights Kingdoms II was my brother and I’s childhood.
Those movable joints are still here today, in those DC Superheroes sets 5:35.
I’m still young and I loved all of those themes
I loved these, this right here is my childhood
I/m surprised you didn't talk about Chima here; in its earliest concept art, it was literally an army of lion people fighting an army of scorpion people. It also included those animal castles.
Jj Mallek I didn’t know.
4:28
JESUS! That's what that was called! Galidor! I've had memories of that for years. Didn't even think it was real.
I had the board game for Knights Kingdom, and loved it as a child
So I was just binge watching some of TJOmega's older reviews, and I keep finding you everywhere dude. Also, it's very interesting to know that there was an "Original" Knights Kingdom before the 2004 version.
Please keep mentioning Bionicle! Keep the dream alive!
