Just watched another Launch 11 disassembly video, rear body screws are T7, not T6, which is odd but would explain why you stripped it. Hope that helps someone else needing to disassemble the knife.
One of my grail knives is the launch 6. I drool over pictures all the time. Some knives you fall in love with the first time you see them then there's some like the Cormorant that I hated the looks at first and now I really really want one! This was fun to see you strip a screw finally haha. Great video brother! until next time!
Hey Beez. Nice looking knife. I don't really get into autos or assisted anymore. The Kershaw link in 20cv is the last assisted knife I've bought. I wonder if they make an easy out that small to get out stripped screws. It's a drill bit looking thing with reverse grooves that digs into the hole to help remove screws. Kinda like a reverse drill bit and very grippy on the end. Thanks for the video. I'm sure Kershaw will help. Have a good week brother.
Thanks brother! Yes, they do make them that small. I checked out the link you sent me. 😅 I'm hoping Kershaw will help. It was my pleasure! A good week to you, too!
There was a time in my collecting that Auto or spring assisted was all I could think of but luckily that phase didn't last long. The fidgetability just insn't there with an automatic knife. They're still cool, mind you, REALLY cool, but just not as easy to "play" with as a manual. Thanks for showing us reallity Mr. Beez. It was both honest and and good reminder of what can happen to anyone.
I agree. I definitely like manuals! I fidget with my knives more than I cut with them 😅. No problem brother. Once I put the bit in and it just spun, I was like well I guess that's all for the disassembly part 🤣.
Looks like a cool little knife albeit small. It definitely whips out there in a flash. I knew something must have happened when you said you were going to disassemble the knife but the video was only 14:50. That’s a shame. Kershaw should at least give you the option of sending the knife back to them so they can either replace the screw or the whole knife. There’s no way that screw should have stripped that easily. The pivot collar is anodized aluminum I think. I was excited to see you break down an auto. I might have to send you one to check out and break down.
I've never had a screw feel so soft. It literally happened with one turn. I was taken aback lol. It's a sweet knife! Thank you so much for letting me unbox and "break it down".
That's my favorite of the launch series. Kershaws are what got me started into the folding knife rabbit hole. It's weird that they can do a decent job heat treating 8cr but use screws made of warm butter. I've done that to a few Kershaw screws myself.
I am utterly surprised at the number of Beez Bladers who have encountered this issue with Kershaw before! You would think they would get tired of shipping out screws for replacement!!!
I have this exact knife but in the satin stone wash blade. Its a super light weight little knife, great for quick smaller tasks and it does kick out surprisingly hard. For me its a 3 finger knife that came decently sharp right out of the box. My only complaint is the screws are SUPER soft metal, just like yours. The ones that hold the clip stripped SUPER easily. Also, I wish there was some sort of lock on the button, even thought its pretty flush with the body when the blade is closed. I had something else in my pocket with it and when I bent down it hit the button, the blade flew halfway out and introduced itself to my thigh in a VERY painful and bloody way.
I always clip mine to the pocket, and if I can't I have a totally awesome leather slip from Lancelot Leather to keep everything in it's proper spot🤘🏻That's concerning that the screws in general seem to be a major weak spot!
Rough. My old auto kept opening in my pocket, so I replaced it. I got the Kershaw Eris. The speedsafe opening works just as fast as an auto, but there is practically 0% chance of it opening in my pocket. Seriously, I'd have to put it at the front of my pocket, then force the flipper down, through my jeans. It's not happening. I'm still looking at autos, but considering lock switches, recessed buttons, or the stiff switches on OTFs vs my Eris, I might just stick with the Eris. Any of the Kershaw knives with speedsafe opening are a safer and lower cost alternative for automatics.
@@flatasacueball6326 - Thanks for the advice and experience. I won't get another one that doesn't have some sort of lock, etc. I'm not usually an auto guy, but this one, bit me, literally.

Thanks to @Prato 24 for lending that to you, Beez. Not your fault the screw was stripped (and on a USA made one at that!) and first time for everything!
I really like the aesthetics. It's super clean, with only 3 screws. (no comment lol) Yeah, this one's a good second-carry size. I bet the bigger one's really launch with a kick!
Not into autos but for those that are it's a good size and blade shape for EDC. We talked about fixing it in the live (I'm behind on my vid watching lol) and I hope you were able to figure something out. Thanks for the great vid Beez and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable
I like the launch series, I have 3 of them 1,2 and 7. I like them a little on the larger size. Its a nice knife if your carrying autos. I have never taken apart any of my autos, Boker, Kershaw or Benchmade. But that screw should have never happened.
If that sucker starts to bounce out of lock or not lock tighten the pivot 👍👍. Happened on the kershaw 1 bit no issues since it was given minimal love ❤️ which is all most things need anyways .
Kershaw whirlwind was my first quality usa made knife long long ago. Love the American made Kershaws unfortunately there budget stuff is more expensive and sub par to the overseas budget with same materials. Thanks for sharing brother and have a great week.
Hi Beez, Is Kershaw trying to recover terrain lost? Nice one there. Also, the Ferrum Forge Stinger is as nice as the Velona and my next one after the Pinion. Sorry that you screwed the screw ...🤔
I don't know that it was my gateway knife per se, but Kershaw was a brand I picked up a couple of prior to Beez's Jedi Mind Powers going to work on me!!!!!!
Kershaw seems to like their locktite. I’ve had great warranty backing from them in the past, so there shouldn’t be a problem getting the screw replaced. Sweet little knife though.
very pretty auto... you may get away using a dremel and putting a standard slot on the screw, drilling it out would mean you would need to re tap the threads too and go up a screw size. try just putting in a single slot and using a standard screwdriver. I actually stripped a t6 bit yesterday, the bit itself went kerplunk on me
That is exactly what I do, well, have only had to a handful of times, but youhave to put alot of tape around it to not hit the scale which is very easy to do, and mine have always been on higher end Chinese knives, so %etting them to send you a new pivot is also difficult, or impossible if it's a discontinued knife, then you have to take micrometer measurements and order a new one from ti-connector. If it happens to a body screw, you have to TRY the drill/re-tap.
@@BeezBlades definitely! And screw extractors will not work on body screws, they are just too small and you will end up damaging the scale trying. Sometimes you can get them to work on a pivot, but it's difficult. You can make a flathead slot on a body screw if you are good with a dremel and use a very small carbide bit, but getting it the perfect size for a small flathead bit is also difficult, and will probably just strip out again if the screw is soft. So yeah it can definitely be a pain!😁
One thing for anyone thinking about the Barrel and Blade KOTM Club…there is only one tier in the KOTM. They have tiers on their regular EDC boxes that come with a variety of different items. KOTM is $99.99 + $19.99 s/h. Last month was the Cold Steel Engage w/Atlas Lock, a much more heavy duty and expensive knife.
I have a few Kershaw's 👍 Thanks for sharing your new knife 🤣 LOL 🤣 I would keep it & uses it & get Prato a new one because I like the knife.. Stay Safe and keep them Sharp 🔪✌🏻
Seems like a good little edc auto. The screw was probably a dud I've dealt with alot of fasteners big and small and once in a while there is just a soft screw. Great video Beez 👍
Prato24 don't cut him it was just a accident he was weak and didn't put enough pressure on the screw or maybe a little heat first when he saw thread locker on the pivot??
I have purchased 2 Kershaw Leeks over the years. I immediately stripped out the pocket screws with my Wiha bits. I got rid of both knives because I don't like carrying tip up.
I've had terrible experience disassembling Kershaws, and ZT doesn't seem to be a lot better really. There's a reason I haven't bought any new Kershaws in years. That being said, of the Launch series, I like the look of the 13.
I've had that happen over the years with various things that I have disassembled and some companies get a little Elcheapo and use a softer metal and it doesn't take much to strip them out. Or maybe they put J.B. WELD on the threads 🤣 other than that a very nice knife.
Nice knife but not legal here in Lib CA, blade too long for automatics in CA. You cannot one hand close those automatics; I have several and they and assisted models need two hands to close.

I stripped out both back screws instantly also! Expensive gas station knife! Something’s rattling in the pivot too. Customer service sucks! Guy flat out lied to me! Done with kershaw!
They’ll have to start using screws that are actually able to be removed without stripping before I pay that much for a Kershaw.. I would expect more from an American made knife.🤬
Here's a theory: those back screws are designed to strip out! That's how they know you messed with the knife and voided the warranty. Proof? The belt clip screws are the same size and they are easily removed!
Wow ... that's a shame, Beez (and Prato 24, kudos for the understanding). I still think Kershaw is a great knife company with good products in their market segment ... but then this. Let me be clear ... knife companies need to quit using/buying sh$t fasteners for their products. Fasteners MUST hold up to multiple teardowns/reass'ys. This situational CR#P is simply no good for anyone ... everyone loses, especially the OEM/brand.

I've never had trouble with T6's. This one stripped with one turn. It was super soft or something. I didn't even use much pressure. Hmmm
Well that stinks stripping a screw but I like Kershaw carried the Cryo for years thx beez
Did you have 5 espressos before filming Beez? lol
That's a slick little knife. Thanks for showing it to us . Have a peachy day bro. 🍑🍑🍑🍑🌞
It was my pleasure! A peachy day to you, too! 🍑🍑🍑
They’ll have to start using screws that are actually able to be removed without stripping before I pay that much for a Kershaw.. I would expect more from an American made knife.🤬
Truth!
Kershaw quality is pretty damn good
nice little knife.
Here's a theory: those back screws are designed to strip out! That's how they know you messed with the knife and voided the warranty. Proof? The belt clip screws are the same size and they are easily removed!
I dig it!
Copy that! It's a pretty cool little knife! Have a great afternoon and evening!!
cool knife
I prefer scented trash bags but that’s just me ✌🏼👊🏼🤙🏼
Seems like a nice lil edc knife!
Personally I'm not crazy about autos. But it's a nice knife👍👍🤠🤠🎯🎯🔪🔪🗡🗡
Bummer about the screw.
Total bummer. I'll contact them, and see what they say. I think the screw was soft, because I didn't use a lot of pressure.
Wow ... that's a shame, Beez (and Prato 24, kudos for the understanding).
Not a worry here my Brother! Brother Beez always has my complete trust and appreciation. Appreciate all that he brings to us 🤘🏻
Awesome
Cool video thanks.
