    A&M, MIssouri, Nebraska, and Colorado left because of Texas inflated ego. OU and Texas Tech didn't have the courage to stand up to them either. When Texas realized A&M and Missouri were winning in money and recruits, they changed their tune on the SEC and actively worked with OU to undermine the conference.

    • @sbcbaits994

      OU didn’t have to “stand up to them” they were competing for championships, winning the recruiting battle, and the powerhouse of the conference. All 4 teams that left were perpetual losers, so they took their ball and went to another playground.

      If OU and Texas are “greedy” for trying to reap the revenue that they generate as brands, then what are Baylor and smaller Big 12 programs for wanting to keep OU and Texas in the Big 12 because their affiliation generates more revenue for the smaller brands?

    • @ntnsty

      @@thedebatehitman maybe they should’ve just been scrimmaging against themselves all these years and no one else. How’s that, jerk? I mean, such a great brand and all, the entire country would just tune in to see them play each other 9 times a year - don’t need anyone else.

    • @thedebatehitman
      @thedebatehitman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ntnsty
      Man, you really missed the point that I made.
      For the sake of argument, let’s assume that an entity is “greedy” for undertaking one or more particular actions with the intent to maximize it’s revenue and brand.
      Great! So with that behind us, we can now assess that OU “greedy” while acknowledging that such is “life.”
      But here’s the thing. Baylor will likely do anything that it legally can to keep OU and Texas in the Big 12 because doing so maximizes the program’s revenue and brand as a Power 5 conference member. And if OU and Texas do leave despite Baylor’s efforts, the Bears will undoubtedly try to land in another Power 5 conference in an effort to maintain its revenue and brand as a Power 5 member. So we have a situation in which Baylor will undertake whatever actions it can to maximize its revenue and brand potential. What does that make Baylor?
      You see, I’m willing to concede that OU and Texas are “greedy” so long as others are willing to acknowledge the same for all other programs.

    Step one, fight the exit and don't let it happen quickly. Step two, add Cincinnatti and Memphis as new members and as travel partners for West Virginia. Step three, reach out to BYU and form a Notre Dame style partnership- BYU football stays independent but BYU puts 5 or 6 Big 12 schools on their schedule every year. This is good for everyone. Step four, add UCF and USF as members 11 and 12. Bring back divisions and make it East and West.
    Step five, if we get this far and if the Big 12 wants to reach 16- see if you can add Boise St, UNLV, Fresno St, and San Diego St out west. Maybe some other package to the west, but definitely add 2 schools from California.
    Medium term best case- the Big 12 survives and is anchored by teams in Texas and Florida while having a member school in Ohio, and WVU is no longer on an island. Long term dream scenario- Big 12 exists and is anchored by multiple teams in Cali, Texas, and Florida while also having one in Ohio.
    You cannot possibly have member schools in All of the best recruitment grounds and not succeed in any of them. Just put it together.

      @@nhardman Couple of reasons. One- everyone can manage the travel a bit better if there's a smaller number of not-really-conference games. Two, there isn't a great travel partner that could come right along with BYU. Three, BYU wants to be independent and the Big 12 doesn't really need them as a full member in football. The Big 12 doesn't really need them in Olympic sports either, to be honest.

      You are correct, SEC fan here, I think when the Consolidation down to about 60 schools, it will happen. Since SCOTUS 9-0 decision on NIL (All Liberal and Conservative Justices), the NCAA is effectively done. You add Transfer Portal and expanded 12 team playoffs. When the Ed O'Bannon NIL case was first heard, and it got thrown out, most of the P5 large schools (all SEC, Big10 for sure) wanted to pay the $5K NIL. But in the NCAA with 300 school that vote for Say Basketball and the 130 or so (P5/G5) for football, the smaller school out voted the SEC, Big10, the Clemsons, USC, UCLA, Texas, OU, etc.
      So the P5 schools are going to pull away for Football and self govern the Super Conferences so whatever NIL their players can make, rules for transfers and numbers of coaches on football staffs are going to controlled by the big football schools. I think Basketball, College Baseball and the Olympic sports will still be run by the NCAA unless the smaller schools start trying to impose rules on NIL for example for Kentucky's Basketball players, or North Carolina's Basketball, etc.

    Reliable source about 10 years ago told me that Big Ten wants the top state school in each state. If they started over, they wouldn't invite Michigan State, Purdue, or N'Westrn. Knowing the league's desired profile and pattern to expand attached to their geographic footprint (see Nebraska, Rutgers (New Jersey), and Maryland since 2010). Signs seem to point to Kansas and West Virginia.

    No way K-State gets into the B1G. They're not an AAU school. Kansas is. Iowa State is a AAU school but would bring nothing to the B1G. So if the B1G takes two Big 12 schools, it would most likely be Kansas and Iowa State. But a more attractive option would be for the B1G to poach Mizzou. Mizzou applied for membership in the B1G twice and was turned down. But with Mizzou you get St Louis and Kansas City. Mizzou would still say yes please if the B1G came calling for the research money alone. The B1G should also take a very hard pass at Notre Dame. A B1G with Mizzou and Notre Dame would still be a somewhat compact conference and a nice counterpoint to the SEC.

    • @mizzoumark8603
      @mizzoumark8603 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mizzou didn't want a junior membership like Nebraska took for 7 years, we wanted to be full members wherever we went. I don't see Mizzou leaving the SEC ever. Big10 would have been a good match, but that ship sailed whenever Nebraska settled for a junior partnership and diminished our negotiation power to come in as a full member.

    we should never have beaten the Salooners 2 years in a row or continually smacking the Horns. If they are going to be humiliated, they would rather have 5 different teams from the SEC do it. They can also brag about beating whatever iconic programs are down, Like LSU going from riches to rags. They will still be outsiders who only did it for the muunnayyyy.

    In my opinion it would be best case scenario if we could bring in the best of the AAC and keep the big 12 alive. Be aggressive and bring in the up and coming programs. Maybe even bring in BYU. I am a big fan of the culture of the big12 and honestly I’m glad texas is leaving. They have been a whiny crybaby the whole time. That being said we better beat the brakes off both ou and texas this year.

      Why all the hate for Texas? Texas held the Big 12 together 10 years ago. You have it all wrong. OU is rightly dissatisfied with the Big 12. OU hates the Fox deal and it irks them that all their games are played at 12 ET instead of prime time. Texas and OU are linked. They're our main rival and no one wants to give up the Texas-OU game. I've loved every Texas-KState game, but that game is second to Texas-OU.

Then we could try to persuade to bring in some more schools that we’ve mentioned for years like UCF, Houston, or SMU?

      You maybe could have brought in major P5 brands from the ACC or PAC if OU and TX are in the BIGXII but not without. IMO the best moves would be for the 8 teams to stay together and try to get NU and BYU to join then some other dominos might fall. The TV money would drop but might be on par with the PAC.

    I am a Texas alum who always enjoyed traveling to my home state of Kansas for football games, although often disappointed at the results when the Purple Wizard was still coach at K State! In my perfect world, we would still be in the original Big12. But I have to say, it sure gets old listening to fans of other teams constantly disparage Texas while at the same time whining when it becomes apparent Texas doesn't want to carry them any more. Baylor, TCU, Tech, and yes, K State are all completely without any true national appeal. If anything, Texas (and OU) gave the 8 remaining schools 10 years of national relevance and monetary gain that they couldn't possibly have expected on their own. Stewart Mandel wrote an article on this very subject. When all these teams fail to land a spot in ANY other major conference, I hope they will realize that has zero to do with Texas. They may be fine schools, with pride and tradition etc, they just don't move the needle of interest nationally.
