Utah didn't want to come to the Big 12. They first went to the B1G and they were told to go pound sand. Utah has this massive chip on their shoulder that they put there themselves. When they were let in the PAC they got extremely arrogant and thought they were of equal value with all the blue bloods of the nation. Since the ACC wasn't much of an option that they went running to the Big 12, thinking it was beneath them, but they were the only ones who would take them out of the power conferences. It was true that USC was the flagship of the PAC. USC was 30% of the market value of the PAC. Of the $350M of TV market USC was worth $105M of that. Utah was valued at 4%, meaning their value was $14M. In short, the majority of PAC viewers preferred USC over anyone else and the TV networks preferred them over anyone else as well. When USC's history is looked at people will see why they were such a blue blood and Utah doesn't even scratch the surface of USC's accomplishments. Utah just needs to get over themselves and move forward in life.
When utah went to the Pac and BYU got black balled from it, utah laughed their asses off at BYU and that laughter went on for 11 years during BYU independence. Sadly, the superior attitude of utah and their arrogance has made nearly impossible to turn the other cheek. They have made the bed, and now must sleep in it. Show some humility UTAH!!
Does the current Utah football program have any leg to stand on? Losing season, Coach and AD in freefall... Does Utah bring anything else, but a spiraling football program to the table for ANY conference? Gymnastics is the only thing that comes to mind.
Say what you want about them being from a small media market, but Boise State would never have acted that way after a loss to a big rival; as a fan of the Big 12 I’m starting to really get some buyers remorse at the decision to invite them and not Boise to the conference.
The play was reviewed, and assuredly multiple refs looked at it.... either we are going to claim that all the refs collaborated in a conspiracy, or they got it right. I'm no expert, but it's difficult for me to believe the conspiracy theory.
If Utah wants less money. Let em go. I will Never see this new pac ever paying 32 million a year per team. I can 100% guarantee any team over there would die for a big XII invite.
@@Mike-aka747 Well, you just have to ask yourself why your genius commissioner didn't think of that in the first place. Could it be that none of those schools bring remotely what Utah does to the table? In this world, nothing is free and there's a reason why Utah is in the Big XII and not one of those schools.
@ big XII doesn’t need Utah. BYU owns the Utah market now and for good. Boise st would be a good pickup. Better FB program. Probably equal in other sports that really don’t matter Other than football. Boise’s stadium Can be expanded to 50k. Market ? Yes a little smaller but like I already said. BYU has the state of Utah covered. They’re doing Utah’s’ job twice.
Oh and on top of that. A BYU-BSU rivalry is already a thing anyways. A cleaner and potentially could be a better rivalry than this toxic holy war. @@Mike-aka747 Hey Mike do you live in Utah? It doesn't sound like it and let me explain to you why. Sincere question...do you really think that Utah fans have anything to do with BYU sports? It's an important question because it's based on the geographical setting you posed. You see, what the Big XII actually has with BYU is the Provo and not the Utah market. Salt Lake City, which is 40 miles from Provo (as an example, that's roughly the same distance between Eugene and Corvallis in Oregon) and by far the biggest city in the state, is dominated in every way by Utah as you'd find out by just taking a cursory drive through the city. In addition, as I've said previously, Utah is the bigger school and has the bigger fanbase within the state of Utah. Lastly, there's some sort of misconception among outsiders where they believe that all members of the LDS faith follow BYU. Nothing could be further from the truth...just like all Catholics don't follow Notre Dame. So, to sum things up, what I'm trying to say is simply that having BYU does not automatically mean having the Utah market as not many Utah fans are going to to tune in to watch BYU and a lot of them have a deep aversion to the program. This is something that Brett Yormark undoubtedly knows.
@@Mike-aka747 BYU doesn't want a rivalry with Boise because they'd lose to them every year and their fans are way, way more boisterous that Utah fans. Trust me, I know...
There’s no indication that he actually understands the full extent of his errors, let alone how his show of arrogance negatively impacts the league. He doubled down on his underlying feelings. This is going to manifest again somewhere down the line.
what does this show the fans and even moreso the students and players of how to react and act when things don't go the way they want?.... not a good example from the people paid(very well) to be examples and mentors.
It appears that BYU will always be Utah’s much Bigger Brother. I just saw that BYU Academics is ranked 50 spots ahead of Utah in the new Forbes Academic rankings. Also, they have way more fans and much larger football and basketball stadiums (and much higher attendance numbers). Why are Utah fans so toxic and delusional???
Average Utah fan is insufferable, they have no idea that they are "that guy" in any environment. I can't tell you how many times at work I have struck up a conversation with someone representing Utah flair everywhere, and within seconds you can tell they don't know even the basics of football. Mention K-State or Deion and its like this glazed over slug look.
Fact: Utes Coach to hold receivers (so coverage sacks increase). Fact: This final play, holding for 10 yards, was done to see if they could get away with it again. Fact: Refs know that and didn’t let Utes control them. Fact: Utes mad. Want PAC12 refs back.
I bet most Utah fans didn't even know who Mark Harlan was until this incident. I sure didn't. Shall we dig up what BYU's current AD has said and done in public and apply it to BYU's fan base?
I didn't want Utah before because I felt like they never wanted to be here, they were "too good for us." I don't feel any better about their addition today. Too late to swap them for someone that actually gives a damn about the league? Oregon State, Washington State? That wasn't an apology from Harlan, it was an excuse. How do the Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State fans feel about the Utah fans? You have put up with them far longer than I have, you tell me. The attitude that Harlan has, is that from their fanbase and cannot be cured, or do they just happen to have leadership that misrepresents what their fanbase want?
Utah has zero brand appeal outside the state of Utah, and very little in much of the state of Utah. Over the past decade or so, they have consistently overplayed their hand. Claim that they'll dominate the conference, beat a few patsies early on, get an artificially high ranking, play a few decent teams late in the season, lose to those teams, and get thoroughly exposed. That's what's happening this year, but even worse, since they started out by badmouthing the conference before even joining, blabbering on about how they were going to immediately dominate the conference, becoming an absolute dumpster fire earlier than usual, then losing to BYU in the only bowl game they're getting this year. Ordinarily, I just ignore the utes. They play boring football, even in their good years, and are of zero value to me. They and their fans have been so awful this past year, though, that I gladly step out of my apathy toward them to enjoy this magnificently delicious schadenfreude. Max Hall is still right.
Does nobody notice how similar to the NBA ref scandal this is? And how the NBA refs weren’t just betting on league games but changing outcomes in playoff games? The offensive holding denying a first down and then the defense holding that wasn’t called all day (season really)
Never thought I'd see worse refs than the ACC, but the more Big 12 football & basketball I watch, YORMARK better get his crap refs lessons & eye exams. THEY are consistently terrible. And those Back judges don't have X-Ray vision = throwing flags from 30-yards away pretending they can actually see the DBs hands in front of them Total B>S>. God forbid anyone complains or has another opinion - commissioner shuts them down. NEWSFLASH - if you don't take criticism, you will not obtain credibility and fans will say, no thanks. good bye
It was the correct call. You think they're going to reprimand the refs for making a correct call? If anything, they'd be reprimanded for the phantom face mask call, not the hold on JoJo. I find this fascinating. If that wasn't a hold, what is a hold in a Utah fan's mind, and why doesn't every team yank players jerseys to prevent them from getting into their routes on every pass play? lol
@@RVcoug All I said was Refs need to be held accountable. I did not judge a single call except what the Utah AD did and I stated that I was not saying Mark was correct.
I have remain silent in this until now. I was a the game. The ref called a call that had been let go all game and he waited until the last minute to make that type of call made no sense. Entirely missed the horse collar and taunting afterwards of our star tight end that ended his career at Utah and maybe the pros. And I could go on. Yes Utah has reasons to complain. Did our athletic director handle this correctly, no. Do I blame the commissioner for doing what he did, no. He had to do something but I hope he reviews what is sent to him as it is on the Internet. As for Utah leaving the Big 12, that is ridiculous and was never anybody’s intention. The plane facts are the Big 12 needs Utah and Utah needs the Big 12. We may not win another game this year but we will be back. Now back to you John.
Wondering where the horse collar was when he wasn't thrown the ball, nobody touched him and he went down. He made a cut and went down. Get facts straight there buddy
Yeah, you actually have no idea, watch the endzone angle, Kuithe cut wrong, just because you and Kyle were both too lazy to see what happened doesn't mean you should yap about stuff you don't know. Jake Hatch has the alternate angle by the way, check it out.
Typical sour grapes after losing an emotional game. Perhaps the Utes should spend a few weeks in introspection to determine what manner of men they ought to be, rather than how great they believe they already are.
EVERY game has bad calls, EVERY game has disputable calls, EVERY game has injuries, the fact is the "bad/controversial" call moved BYU from the 8 yard line to....the 18. So sure, fresh set of downs but Utah had kind of owned BYU on defense, they could have stopped them and didn't. BYU still had to go 50+ yards to get in field goal range. Plus Utah scored 0 points in the second half. The discussion would be moot if they had scored one field goal. Frankly, there was holding and we are quibbling over whether it should have been called or not. I am sorry it had to be "controversial", but it is what it is. I live in UT and have listened to the insufferable "we are better than this" crap for 2 years.
Slap in the wrist and pocket lint for both Harlan and Utah...the Big XII needs Utah more than Utah needs the Big XII...once Utah decides to move to a reconstituted and more financially viable PAC, they'll take Arizona and ASU with them...both schools who also don't want part of the Big XII but are staying silent at this point.
Interesting take. Can you give specifics as to how a reconstituted PAC might eclipse the Big 12 in payout? Also, sincere question: Since the Big 12 already had the Salt Lake market in BYU, what value does Utah actually add to the Big 12 outside of prestige (which took a serious hit this year)?
@@aBrewster29 Sincere question...do you really think that Utah fans have anything to do with BYU sports? It's an important question because it's based on the geographical setting you posed. This is something that Brett Yormark undoubtedly knows. Now, how could a reconstituted PAC ecliple the Big 12 in payout? Well, you tell me. That's a subject that I've never broached. As a theoretical exercise, I could take a guess at it though...it would probably entail something along the lines of Utah, Arizona, Cal, Stanford, SMU, and possibly UCLA departing their current conferences to go back to a regionally based entity. Could they get as a payout what the Big XII gets now? Well, I think it's possible if they have some teams make some noise in future CFPs. For example, there's no team today in the Big XII that I'd favor in a head to head matchup with Boise State. The Broncos barely lost to #1 Oregon in Eugene in a game where they had the Ducks dead and buried. They're the only team that's really played the Ducks close this season. Anyways, what do you think?
Utah isn't really anything to brag about. But the big twelve conference ain't shit either. A lot of you midwestern , texas and kansas , boys think you're way more important than you are.. Every school in your conference would leave for the big 10 or SEC in a heartbeat. Kansas will be in the s EC with Missouri, eventually leaving Kansas state by itself.
Time to hand out pink slips😂
When utah went to the Pac and BYU got black balled from it, utah laughed their asses off at BYU and that laughter went on for 11 years during BYU independence. Sadly, the superior attitude of utah and their arrogance has made nearly impossible to turn the other cheek. They have made the bed, and now must sleep in it. Show some humility UTAH!!
Does the current Utah football program have any leg to stand on? Losing season, Coach and AD in freefall... Does Utah bring anything else, but a spiraling football program to the table for ANY conference? Gymnastics is the only thing that comes to mind.
Their basketball program is even worse.
No. They have nothing to offer.
OBVIOUS FOUL. The guy had TWO HANDS on the BYU player and the guy nearly fell down because of it. You gotta call that every time.
why does CU have the easiest schedule in the P4 and nearly every team has a passing defense in the 100s
Let em go. I will
Never see this new pac ever paying 32 million a year per team.
Probably equal in other sports that really don’t matter
Other than football. Boise’s stadium
Can be expanded to 50k.
By all means they can keep the HW going but that’s probably
Up to egomaniac UU. Maybe for the safety of all. Play the game yearly in LES. RES every 5 years to punish their fans for their behavior. Oh whatever came out of that flown out of the stands metal water bottle incident? 🤔
Send the back to the WAC!
He acted unprofessional and he was fined for it I don't think he will make that mistake again!!
There’s no indication that he actually understands the full extent of his errors, let alone how his show of arrogance negatively impacts the league.
He doubled down on his underlying feelings. This is going to manifest again somewhere down the line.
@aBrewster29 true
what does this show the fans and even moreso the students and players of how to react and act when things don't go the way they want?.... not a good example from the people paid(very well) to be examples and mentors.
So annoyed with Utah! Ridiculous.
If your going to fine the AD then fine every referee that gets a call wrong! Better yet just make calls from the booth!
You still mad the Utes lost?
@ 😁
Utah Ute's AD Mark Harlan vs Reality. Clear view of holding penalty.
th-cam.com/video/xbdYKLK-B_s/w-d-xo.html
On a school that preaches forgiveness, I don't see any here.
?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????😆
It appears that BYU will always be Utah’s much Bigger Brother. I just saw that BYU Academics is ranked 50 spots ahead of Utah in the new Forbes Academic rankings. Also, they have way more fans and much larger football and basketball stadiums (and much higher attendance numbers).
Why are Utah fans so toxic and delusional???
don't let the door hit you on your way out...
Are they...are they really???
Average Utah fan is insufferable, they have no idea that they are "that guy" in any environment. I can't tell you how many times at work I have struck up a conversation with someone representing Utah flair everywhere, and within seconds you can tell they don't know even the basics of football. Mention K-State or Deion and its like this glazed over slug look.
Kick them out and bring in a more appreciative team like Boise or Louisville.
Harlan needs to go. He is classless and the fan base is the same because of his leadership
Kick out Utah and add UConn! Big 12 improved all around.
Boise* good basketball and football. Basketball is already immaculate, don't need UConn
I hear the New Pac-12 is still looking for an 8th member that plays football. 🤔
They will still be looking for team #8 when Washington State takes Utah's place 😂
Clown AD, clown program, clown fans…..
Wow!
You are confusing some rabid fans with the "state of Utah".
Does nobody notice how similar to the NBA ref scandal this is?
And how the NBA refs weren’t just betting on league games but changing outcomes in playoff games?
The offensive holding denying a first down and then the defense holding that wasn’t called all day (season really)
No not at all, you have real proof? Other keep your pie hole closed
Mark. You need to act more professionally, when your monthly income is over $100,000.
NEWSFLASH - if you don't take criticism, you will not obtain credibility and fans will say, no thanks. good bye
I am not saying Mark what correct. However, refs should be held account just like the players and the coaches.
Except it was a good call. What is there to account for?
What for? Do tell?
✈facts... nothing but ✈ facts. (You know, first class is expensive, the food sucks, etc.)
Don’t worry. PAC won’t ever be viable again. Utah going nowhere. You must of not watched this whole video. Smdh
Doubtful.
"the Big XII needs Utah more than Utah needs the Big XII" - lmao that is beyond ridiculous 🤣🤣🤣 Typical delusional Utah fan take!
Because the school is garbage and is only slightly good at football
Harlan should be “encouraged “ to resign. There was no apology or acknowledgment that his remarks were inappropriate, only a statement justifying his behavior
