It could be very interesting to see a FP90 successor, with the new LX708 longer pivot key action, a better amplification system and the new sound modelling..., at the same net weight. Maybe a FP100 soon on the way...?.
Oh well, I bought this piano few months ago and I love it. The sounds are really great. One thing could be better : it's complicated to select a sound in "others". It comes with 300 sounds and it costs a lot of time to go through the sound you want. But otherwise you can set performances to recall the sounds faster. I miss the button to select sounds by number. But otherwise this is a wonderful stage piano. I'm happy with it. The supernatural sound is fantastic!
How is the piano so far? Been eyeing on this one now after turning down the ES8 and P-255 and P-515, and need more affirmation that this piano will be great for stage.
My perception is that if you want a keyboard to make music, the Roland is excellent. But if you want a digital piano that replicates the sound of an acoustic grand piano, it seems a Yamaha or Kawai are the way to go. Personal opinion, obviously. But I think it’s clear that your personal objectives will steer your preferences toward one piano or another very clearly.
question- first I just discovered these keyboards and was blown away by the feel more than anything. The only thing I don't like is the price and everyone's going on about the FP-30s / do those have the same realistic, weighted action as these and the FP-60''s do?

Just bought my Roland FP 90. I updated from the FP 30. I love everything about this piano except the sound. My FP 30 (which I still have) sounds so much better. I think that Roland really dropped the ball on this one. They fixed something that wasn't broken. The FP 90 sounds "tinny," synthetic, muffled, shallow. I'm hoping that this is some kind of software fix. Absent that, I will be sending the FP 90 back.
For anyone still interested in the FP90 there is a setting called 3D Ambiance for when you are wearing headphones and it makes the keyboard sound "tinny". Taking it off seems to fix that issue.
Back in the day of the FP8 you could layer strings and piano and control how the strings come in and when with an "expression pedal" is that possible on the FP90? Layering piano and strings is a real nice combo but hands free bringing the strings in and out is nice too.
Thought it initially sounded really nice but the reverb was not enough for my taste also the keys should have wood at the sides for aesthetic effect. Liked the buttons very nice, almost worthy of parting me from my money but not quite
I agree about the reverb. The older FP7 had on board effects including much longer and richer reverbs that you could add to sounds. I really miss adding a nice digital delay or tremolo to an electric fender Rhodes sound! The reverb on the FP 90 is absolutely horrible for a pipe organ or string sound! Totally frustrating. Absolutely stupid engineering on the part of Roland on this aspect. And then they waste all of the circuitry on the piano character feature which lets you micro adjust each individual note for brightness, tuning and damper noise!
@@robertmichalscheck3072 no i haven't, personally I have totally and absolutely completely given up on all digital piano's, they're all fake sounding, yes some zones of the keyboards are very good but in their entirity, again personally I'd give them all a miss. Depending on what you aim to play on them, I'm concert level and they sound dead, not alive and rewarding to sit at for even the shortest time. The key actions are chronicly lacking. I've played /owned almost all makes and speak sincerely and with personal experience. I'm so fucked off with them I've actually begun studying the violin.

Hi, The FP90 uses the new supernatural modelling technology. This is similar to what's in the Vpiano. RD800 is still a great stage piano but uses the previous Supernatural technology which is a mixture of sampling and modelling. The FP90 and the new HP and LX series pianos use the full modelling technology and behave more like a real piano.
The predecessor FP80 had a full rhythm section (arranger feature), but that seems to have gone away in the FP90. I know the Piano Partner 2 app has it, but having it onboard is different. Also I prefer the sound of the sampled SuperNatural Piano to the slightly more artificial sounding Modeling one. Yes one can tweak the Modeling all he wants, but I haven't heard a demo that achieved the more natural tone of the sampled version. Does the FP90 retain the older sampled sounds alongside the newer modeled pianos?
Something that COMPLETELY SUCKS about the drum patterns with the interactive Piano Partner 2 app- you can’t split the keyboard and use the drum patterns at the same time! What a drag- what good is a beat box if you can’t have a bass sound in the left hand? I don’t know if this was an issue with the FP-80’s on board drum patterns, but this is a huge mistake! The other thing missing from the new FP-90 is an on board effects unit! Can’t add delay or chorus effects to the sounds! My old FP-7 had this feature! Why do they dump features when they update these keyboards?

Hi, Piano is is sold as the piano only or in kit form with stand and pedals. Stand and pedals are also available seperatley. If you are using the piano at a gig on a portable x style stand then you are able to use the Roland DP-10 single sustain pedal which is included with the FP90. Should you wish to use a portable 3 pedal system, Roland make the RPU3. Hope this helps :-)

There are some distinct technical specifications between them, however, it's not beneficial to put them in preference order, it totally depends on the player's preferences.
I'm not hearing the piano live BUT on a very good set of headphones (which I have used to listen to MANY "Better Music Videos" with Rudi. To me, this Roland FP90 just sounds "Muddy", ie lacks clarity. My favorite demo by Rudi is the Casio GP500 Hybrid Grand Piano. Now that thing sounds amazing and my wife tried one out in Toronto to check the action which is equally amazing. It's interesting to note that the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra actually did a concert employing the Casio GP500 along with a 9' Acoustic Grand for comparison. Audience members were stunned by the Casio.
Does anyone know how does action compare with RD700 NX? Minutiae of sounds difference not as important. I have the RD700 NX but buying a piano for a private school, kids who are pianists need something most like piano action (love Action on mine).

I bought the FP-90 and returned it yesterday. I did not like the piano sound. It sounded muffled especially through headphones. I'm going back to the yamaha p515 which in my opinion has a better piano sound.
Great Piano. The bluetooth gave me a lot of trouble. Seems everything, all connections, must first be disconnected. It only works if you start from scratch.
I recently bought my Roland FP-90 and I noticed that I have the opposite problem of the Casio PX-S3000: 66g to move (not to make sound) the middle C and 72g to move the C#. Indeed it's a bit annoying playing songs with a lot of black keys. Anyone else who noticed this problem?
@@6Deuce1 I can't really explain it in detail but in short. Sampled sounds more realistic because the sound is recorded from an acoustic instrument. Modelled sounds less realistic for some reason. Most Keyboards have sampled sounds but there are still some old keyboards that have modelled sounds. As I said I'm not too sure about this hope this helps somehow and remember always trust your ear And for anyone who knowledgeable about this feel free to correct me

Abdul Alshibly I was looking for the closest experience to a grand piano but also with the potential to create beats, not for gigs just home use. After much research I figured I should just buy a keyboard/piano and not a workstation so I placed an order for the Yamaha YDP-164. I’m pretty confident with the purchased I made even though It hasn’t been delivered yet but what would you have suggested?
I am very disappointed with the FP90. I recently upgraded from a 10-year-old FP7, and I think I’m going to stick with the 7 and return the 90! The piano action is simply over engineered. At first touch, it seems very responsive and pleasant, but play the concert piano sound for a while, and you will see what I mean. You really have to dig in to get desirable crispness that is even throughout. Playing with a lighter touch gives you mush, and then you fight it a little bit to get some more brightness and it feels as if you’re working too hard. Over time, this is quite taxing on the hands and arms and could eventually lead to injury. The FP7 has a much lighter and more controllable action when playing the piano sounds. Also, the 90’s sample loop resonates an annoying hum that lingers when the damper pedal is down. This sounds very artificial when compared to a real piano. As a result, I find myself having to lift my foot off the pedal more often than I would like. Yes, I have adjusted all of the piano features including the key touch, and nothing seems to satisfy me. With the 90, you can actually manipulate each individual note on the grand piano setting. You can adjust brightness, micro tuning, damper noise etc. This might seem great, but it’s just overengineering on the part of Roland. Nobody’s going to take the time to micro adjust each note on a digital piano - after all it’s just a digital piano and will never replicate a fine acoustic piano. Additionally, the older FP7 had onboard effects. You could add a delay or chorus or rotary to electric piano sounds and such. For some stupid reason Roland decided not to include an effects capability on this keyboard. The 90 has a feature reverb called “ambience.” It’s OK for piano sounds, but it is far too short for pipe organ or string sounds.This is all extremely disappointing. The FP7 had more sound category banks and it was easier to switch to different sounds. On the 90, many of my favorite guitar sounds are buried in this category labeled “other” which makes it difficult to access them quickly. This is a step in the wrong direction. I realize you can create your own presets via the registration feature, but this is more laborious. Switching from one registration to another also resets the transpose and ambiance features. This makes me want to put both fists right through the goddamn keyboard!! Arrrgh!!! Some good things - Better speakers, Bluetooth connectivity, a microphone input. Overall, the 90 is a better sounding keyboard than the 7, but the drawbacks seem to outweigh the progress. I’ve always loved Roland keyboards going back to my old Juno-106. I had several of the RD line - the 500, 600, 700, 700 SX. Each one was an improvement over its predecessor. But this doesn’t seem to be the case with the FP 90. I’m going to try the Yamaha P515.

Keybeds are the same for FP-30 and FP-60. FP-90 is different. (PHA-4 vs PHA-50)
