Thanks, James. Great to see you review a Roland keyboard. Though it is a lower end keyboard, it still sounds good, and to be honest, is still higher end than my FP10. Your test piece sounded awesome. Glad you approve of the action. It is one of the things that sold me on the Roland over its competitors. Now if I could just learn to play 1/10th as well as you...
Great review. Would really enjoy hearing your thoughts on a comparison between the Roland FP 90, the Kawai es 8 and the Yamaha P515 all of which you have reviewed online. Am looking into purchasing one of those three and have heard your great reviews but would surely appreciate your help in a compairson. Thank you again for all of the great reviews.
Good to hear your thoughts, I've had a FP-90 for about 2 years now and I'm still very happy with it, the action is very nice and the sounds are still great, the tweakability is very nice if you dig into the menus, but even just the the three band EQ is a great addition can help shape the tone for the moment quite nicely.
Any way we can have you play the piano for 15 plus minutes straight. I'd love to just sit and listen to you play. When you played the first song, it was such a bummer when it ended so quickly, that is when I thought about writing this comment.
Nice keys James. ! i just got a Roland GO 88. I think for the money ,the Rollands are a good value and offer a pretty good sound in tight spaces. I use mine in my home studio as my main keyboard. Pretty happy so far. Good vid !
Appreciate all the great reviews. I know you also reviewed the Yamaha P515 and the Kawai es 8 and am interested in your comparison between the three I was interested in acquiring one of that group. Thank you.
I will be doing a in depth review of the Yamaha P515 soon. I also plan on comparing the Roland FP60, Yamaha P515 and Kawai ES8, but as of yet it is not scheduled.
I’m also interested in a FP90 vs P515 review. Haven’t had a chance to go to the stores to see for myself due to the pandemic but would like to see a review before I go.
Love it... but after getting my Daneman 995 piano (from a skip for free) I can never go back to a digital again. It's light night and day. Problem is my Daneman 995 is back home in the UK and I'm sitting around a cold house with Kiwis.
Another great video, thanks! Are there backing tracks on the FP-90X? Looking mainly for percussion in different styles like jazz, r&b, Latin, swing etc.
It would be fantastic to get your review or test of the Roland LX706/708 pianos. They seem really good. Maybe nice to compare it with the Kawai CA78 that you tested a year ago :)
Thanks for this great review, au natural in a store, not "enhanced" which I believe is true in other reviews from sellers. As a fellow classical pianist, how does the action (what I care about the most) compare, if you know, or if anyone here knows, to the RD700? I had one but (foolishly) sold it. The action was great on it. (However it did not have onboard speakers, which I wanted and this has.) All I ever did was play the RD on piano sounds since I'm mainly a classical player. Thanks!
In your review of the FP-30, you rated the keyboard action as roughly a 6/10 (if 10 were a real piano, or close to it), versus 2 to 3/10 for many other entry level digital pianos. I'm curious how you would rate the keyboard action of the FP-90 (in terms of ?/10), as compared with the FP-30.
A 2/10 would be something like a Williams "piano". It's been a while since I've played an FP-90, but it uses the same action as the RD-2000, which is slightly heavier than the FP-30, and still has that slightly clumsy feel that I dislike about Roland's actions.
@@ThePianoforever Thanks, so if I understand you correctly, you feel it remains a 6/10 keyboard action for the FP-90/RD-2000? Or you would need to play them more to confirm that? Thanks a lot for your videos, by the way. I was very into playing piano years ago and am excited to get back into it. Your videos helped inspire me! :-) I'm thinking to start digital and maybe eventually get an acoustic.
One of the most important things to note about the FP90 for me is probably the AI-like piano modeling feature (contrary to the most common sampling approach) which they did only for the "default" concert piano sound. Would it be possible to see a short comparison of that one and a concert grand? I mean sth like you did in th-cam.com/video/9QKJT_GK_Bg/w-d-xo.html I wonder how the modeling would work compared to the real thing
I recently bought my Roland FP-90 and I noticed that I have the opposite problem of the Casio PX-S3000: 66g to move (not to make sound) the middle C and 72g to move the C#. Indeed it's a bit annoying playing songs with a lot of black keys. Anyone else who noticed this problem?
good afternoon. I just discovered your channel and I have seen several videos that I liked a lot. I would like to know the name of the song that you usually play when you try pianos like in this video in the minute 1:25. Thanks in advance for your reply.
I think it is presently not on my list to review, as I can only purchase so many keyboards. However, this last week two manufacturers sent me keyboards, under my terms to be truthful.
I've been recommending Roland FP series to classically trained pianists and and even the cheapest FP-10 for keyboardists who use Virtual Instruments or with amps. Roland uses the same SuperNatural engine sounds from their RD line (except RD2000 which has V-Piano engine), but also their PHA-4 action which uses has wooden keys, better sensors, and escapement, even for their cheapest product. Compare that to Yamaha which only gives their old sounds and the cheapest keybed for their lower tier P series.
A question. What's the difference between a digital piano and a keyboard? Just the way it looks like? Better keyboard s are so functional and top to play with great keyboard action. Digital pianos are better keyboard s isn it?
James, thanks for doing all these reviews. The info is a big help for all of us looking to buy. I just wanted to ask a quick question. Having reviewed the RD2000 as well as the FP90. Do you have a preference? I played an RD2000 recently and it left me a little unimpressed. I'm just wondering if the FP90 is a better way to go. thanks again for any info you might share.
Out of all of these, I am most familiar with the Grandfeel series of actions. I really enjoy the original Grandfeel, I use it on a daily basis to keep time off the concert grand at the studio.
I bought a Roland HP503 here in the UK around 2012, which I’m still playing. It’s good for me, except I’ve always been troubled by the noise of the keys when they’re depressed. Is it the normal thing that this occurs with digital pianos? It’s really annoying for others in the room when I’m using headphones, as all they hear is a ‘tapping’ sound. I’m fairly sure that this doesn’t happen nearly so loudly on my acoustic piano, although obviously that’s not so easy to confirm. Appreciate some advice on this…
Virtually every keyboard will make noise like that, but as they get old or worn out the noise can get louder. Cheaper keyboards will often have a noisier action than a higher-end keyboard, but they all will do it to some degree.
ThePianoforever thanks so much for that. Good to know for the future and also that it’s not faulty. Btw, I have a Danemann upright acoustic piano, which I bought used in 1989. Danemann were used in London schools in the 50’s-60’s and possibly still are. I believe they’re no longer in business. Thanks for your interesting and entertaining work. Geoff.
Your ears are fine. I've owned an FP 90 for three years and tuning is awful and overstretched. It has individual note tuning but overtones are overdone. Some intervals such as minor 7th sound sour no matter what you do.
It's best just to check online when looking for list prices. I try to keep away from talking about pricing as then people have a sense that I might be working for the store where the video takes place. I accept no money from the stores I visit, and in that way I am able to be more honest about my reviews. If you live near Berkley, CA you might want to visit D.C. Pianos in Berkley, as they are really great people, and would be glad to help you out with any questions you might have.
@@ThePianoforever Do you find that these slab piano speakers sound more crisp and balanced than something like CABINETformi.e kawai ca78, which can sound boomy and muffled?
As a person of limited residential space, I appreciate this video. Also laughed at the shop employee doing karate at the end
As I remember it, we just noticed our friend in the background during editing.
I purchased a Roland (LX7) because of the PHA-50 action - the same as found on the FP90 reviewed in this video. I love my Roland!
I love Roland to.

That sounds a lot better than I expected. Great! What a nice range of instruments. Thanks a lot for showing.
Btw, that keyboard is freaking AWESOME. I don't know what it cost, but I'm sure it's worth whatever you have to pay for it. Thanks.
It’s at the 2000$ price range
Davy Jones! ❤️ 😊 Thanks for this review, I was really interested in all the sounds. But I will probably buy Roland FP-30 because it's cheaper.
The bass notes on the first Bach piece really speak in that range, nice to hear.
