I went to Peru in 2012 and the food was out of this world. The yellow chicken dish at 10:27 is called Aji De Gallina. It changed my life. Seriously.

For real, I am Peruvian and I live in PA, my mother came to visit from Peru two weeks ago, she made all the dishes, including aji de gallina, i told her she should open a restaurant here in the US, what do you think? should I encourage her

mindelo23 Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!!! We were in Lima a couple of weeks ago and I tried aji de gallina for the very first time. My absolute favorite dish by far! Did not want that meal to end.

What a wonderful country Peru is. I was hungry all the time when I visited. All the ingredients are super fresh and colorful. They are very kind with tourists, I felt home. I am Brazilian but everything was so different from my country there, even though we are neighbors. God, the smell of chicha morada all over the streets, the fish, the amazing potatoes and corn. I miss even the giant popcorn kernel thing they give you for free at every bar/restaurant. I love Peru! 🇵🇪

Seriouly Puerto rico? wtf man as a Dominican who lived in Peru, caribean food (including puerto rican food) does not compare at all man to Peru man, Not even the french cook so nice (unless you like more mild food, ofc) and even if you dont like a particular Peruvian dish are over 4000 different types of them not kidding look that up, peru is one if not the most diverse cuisine in latinamerica and perhaps the world.

Mike! I'am so excited you came to Perú! There is lot of great places and it just makes me happy that you enjoyed your time here. The dish with pork is called Carapulcra, it's sun-dry potato with juicy pork, Ají de pollo is the yellow spicy chiken and the pourple corn dessert is called mazamorra morada ;)

Gallina translate hen, so basically the same I guess. Personally I don't find the flavor to be different and most peruvians just use chiken for the convenience. Good luck dude!

What I love about Mike is even if he finds something lacking in a food item, he mentions it briefly but then quickly moves over to tell what, he feels, is good about that food item. Positive vibes all around.

I am Peruvian and the dish you said you needed to identify looks like carapulcra. It’s one of my favorite too!! Also... that’s really crazy you were eating all that without rice in the beginning! Always eat rice. Everyday rice. Every dish to me was served like half a plate of whichever meat/potato dish and half plate of rice. I’m also Chinese! So, shout out to the Asians ✌🏻

Mike if you are doing a Southamerican tour please just stay in Peru. Im from Chile and I've been to Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay and Peru, and I can tell that the best food is served in Peru, by far. Oh man I miss that ají de gallina, Cuzco is the only place I've actually enjoyed it.

The chicken in the yellow creamy sauce is Aji de gallina and yes it’s so simple hearty and delicious. The Cau Cau is so good when is well done same thing with the pollo a la brasa or rotisserie chicken !

When I first started dating my Peruvian boyfriend I attempted to make aji de gallina (the creamy yellow chicken dish) for his bday. And although it was delicious it was certainly not nearly as amazing as the real thing! He thought it was adorable I attempted to tho. Anyway since then I have discovered Peruvian foods to be some of the best in the world. Absolutely amazing food.

Btw you should try the Pollo a la brasa from another restaurant, it's usually ALLLLL juicy and a little more seasoned.

The fact that you went to Peru makes me so happy, but that you enjoyed the food makes me it even better. I’m originally from there but live in NY. They probably were trying to figure out if he was Peruvian or not. There are tons of Asians in Peru, hence the "chifa" food which is a mixture of Peruvian and chinese/Cantonese/Sichuan food

show the world the food of my country, I am the daughter of cooks of yesteryear of the city of Arequipa and I have tried all and many more of those meals. There are thousands and thousands more because Peru, being the cradle of the Viceroyalty, was also one of the best demonstrations of typical dishes for fine beginners.
Reading through the comments shows how much people appreciate Mikes genuine enthusiasm and excitement for trying different cultural foods. Wherever he goes people native to that area always appear so happy and proud to share their classic dishes regardless of how simple it might be. The world would be a better place with this kind of attitude - sharing a meal.
