What a wonderful country Peru is. I was hungry all the time when I visited. All the ingredients are super fresh and colorful. They are very kind with tourists, I felt home. I am Brazilian but everything was so different from my country there, even though we are neighbors. God, the smell of chicha morada all over the streets, the fish, the amazing potatoes and corn. I miss even the giant popcorn kernel thing they give you for free at every bar/restaurant. I love Peru! 🇵🇪

I went to Peru in 2012 and the food was out of this world. The yellow chicken dish at 10:27 is called Aji De Gallina. It changed my life. Seriously.

mindelo23 Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!!! We were in Lima a couple of weeks ago and I tried aji de gallina for the very first time. My absolute favorite dish by far! Did not want that meal to end.

What I love about Mike is even if he finds something lacking in a food item, he mentions it briefly but then quickly moves over to tell what, he feels, is good about that food item. Positive vibes all around.
I am Peruvian and the dish you said you needed to identify looks like carapulcra. It’s one of my favorite too!! Also... that’s really crazy you were eating all that without rice in the beginning! Always eat rice. Everyday rice. Every dish to me was served like half a plate of whichever meat/potato dish and half plate of rice. I’m also Chinese! So, shout out to the Asians ✌🏻

Btw you should try the Pollo a la brasa from another restaurant, it's usually ALLLLL juicy and a little more seasoned.

They probably were trying to figure out if he was Peruvian or not. There are tons of Asians in Peru, hence the "chifa" food which is a mixture of Peruvian and chinese/Cantonese/Sichuan food

The chicken in the yellow creamy sauce is Aji de gallina and yes it’s so simple hearty and delicious. The Cau Cau is so good when is well done same thing with the pollo a la brasa or rotisserie chicken !

The fact that you went to Peru makes me so happy, but that you enjoyed the food makes me it even better. I’m originally from there but live in NY. I also lived in Korea for a couple of years and have learned to appreciate and love Asian food. Thank you for sharing!

Mikey great to see you are touring Peru now, a nice surprise. I recommend you visit Sangucheria El Chinito while in Lima, it has the best roast pork sweet potato sandwich buns in town,. Hope you also visit some Peruvian BBQ places for the beef tummy and more beef heart skewers, as well as some more prestigious Peruvian roast chicken restaurants, the place is full of them and those famous multicoloured red yellow green chilli sauces. Kudos bro.
I recommend Pardos for the most succulent chicken available. And yeh I agree those roast chicken sauces are to die for, some have upto 6 or more, mayonaise, red chilli, green chili, orange chilli, yellow chilli, and chimichurri. I hightly recommend more dishes like Chupe de Camaron, or Peru's version of tom yam soup, and also some tamales, chicharon, relleno frito and camote frito breakfast restaurant.

show the world the food of my country, I am the daughter of cooks of yesteryear of the city of Arequipa and I have tried all and many more of those meals. There are thousands and thousands more because Peru, being the cradle of the Viceroyalty, was also one of the best demonstrations of typical dishes for fine beginners.

Peru! Have fun! Peruvian cuisine (especially Limeña) was heavily influenced by the Japanese and Chinese migrant workers who moved there in the early 20th Century. I can't wait to see your reaction to Lomo Saltado (beef stir fry with french fries). Definitely try some more ceviche (it's not really raw!) with some rocoto chiles in the mix. Papa revuelta is a favorite (like an empanada, but with mashed potatoes instead of dough, deep fried) as are humitas (fresh corn tamales). For the more exotic fares, cuy (guinea pig) and a nice alpaca steak should be on your list. Just be careful with street food...my wife got a nasty case of food poisoning when were there...
gabelstapler19 if he doesn't like raw fish for the texture it may be the problem, the acid doesn't really change the texture much (from what I've seen)
gabelstapler19 There is no such thing as “papa revuelta” in Peru, you probably meant papa rellena per your description of the dish. Ceviche does not have rocoto but ají limo which also happens to be red but with a different flavor

I know it is common, but don't eat my guinea pigs! LOL I had guinea pigs as pets for over 30 years. When I worked at Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies, the director was always "threatening" to eat my poor gpiggies! :-(

In most of the western world, they are known as guinea pigs. They are not from guinea, nor are they pigs, but that is the name for the domesticated gpiggy. While they are a delicacy to you, they are a pet to many around the world, just like cats, dogs, etc. I love my guineas!

When I was there, I got sick on the Yellow Pepper Chicken, ate sooo much, very good food. But, like every thing else, everywhere in the world when you eat it homemade it's even better.
