Having watched quite a few Premium Economy reviews recently I have to commend you on the fairness of your evaluation. No exaggeration in either way; fair and comparing only with comparable standards. I was a cabin crew member of a premium airline (and part of the cabin crew managment) from 1982-2002 and still use the fares and the product levels of the eighties as a benchmark. I'm about to book my first longhaul flight in years and can say that I am truly impressed to see that you can get so much more in PE for a - what I consider moderate - surcharge.
I have flown premium economy on United and Delta and have a trip booked on American next October with premium economy.... you mention that you would sit in premium as long as the $ difference is between 1-300 dollars difference... I have never ever seen the $ between economy and premium economy be 1-300 dollars difference is always 800-1200$ more...
It depends on the route and if there are plenty of seats available in Premium Economy. I have seen prices to Japan on AA where economy was $1,700 RT and Premium at $2,100. It really depends on what’s selling faster.
Great video. I booked a transatlantic flight on AA for a flight in a few months. The premium economy seats were $300 less than the regular economy. Needless to say, we chose premium economy 😊
As I am trying to decide whether go with Premium Economy or not for PHL to ZRH, your video convinced me it’s worth it! Thank you for a truly informative video!
Really nice video. It's actually a big upgrade from economy, especially on a day flight where you spend all that time awake. It was odd to see the cabin go out so empty though. Food looked good, but plastic cups and no welcome drink in a premium cabin?!
Thank you for your feedback. I was really surprised with the plastic cups and also no welcome drinks. Maybe they are offering that now, but at the time of the trip they didn’t.
I have flown on Premium Economy on Scandinavian Airlines and Qantas before. I will be flying on American Airlines for the first time soon, from Scandinavia to Florida via Philadelphia on premium economy and got a great deal on the airfare.
Also, on the random extra security selection: I’ve noticed that I always, always got stopped whenever traveling with my daughter as a kid. That only stopped when she turned 18! Another funny one: flying out of Milan to Miami, the check in lady interrogated my husband but I was the one randomly selected for the SSSS screening. A bunch of passengers that had been selected had been to South America and Asia (I had just had 4 back to back trips to Mexico and Brazil for work), so maybe that’s why.
Great review. I normally don't care about the amenity kits, but since you complained about the open window shades, I was curious if the kit included eye shades? As a hobby, I churn credit cards to accumulate FF miles, and my international flights have always been in Biz. This is partly because, until the last year or so, it was nearly impossible to book an award seat in PE. When PE awards were available, they often required more miles than a Biz seat, which is just crazy. Fortunately, most airlines have finally adjusted to the new paradigm, and PE award seats are usually priced midway between Econ and Biz, as they should be. Obviously, Biz is still preferable, but when using my precious miles for my adult daughters or friends, I might choose to save 20-40K miles in each direction and book them in PE. For myself and my wife, I still insist on Biz for US-Europe flights, but I am willing to sit in PE for the return, which is a daytime flight. That is reversed for trips to Asia. For several decades, there was a need for a product between Econ and Biz, and it is nice that most airlines are now filling that niche with Premium Economy. When you start talking about 300+ pound people who insist on squeezing themselves into an economy seat, thereby ruining the flight for their neighbor(s), there is now a reasonable option to force them into a more appropriate seat, or maybe just upgrade their neighbor-victims!
If you don't think it's worth it, sit in the middle seat of a B-787 on a long haul flight sometime. Yes the 787 has a 3-3-3 configuration in Economy. Just like a 737!!
Thank you for your video. I actually thought the food looks really good for airline food. I have a question for you. Was the inside of the plane hot? I was on a flight from Phoenix to Chicago one time and one of the air conditioning units went out during flight. They didn’t land the plane but continued on to our destination with an overwhelming hot interior. Every flight I have taken since then I have been terrified that it will be hot in the cabin. I might be going to Zurich soon so I wanted to know.
Thank you for your comment and question. On this particular flight, the temperature was well regulated. Also, there were individual air vents that you could use if you get hot or cold (depending on the season of your travel/flight).
I fly PE westbound from Europe as the flights are during the day. I'll use mile to upgrade an eastbound over-night flight. My experiences with AA premium economy have been similar to what he has shown, worth the extra cost most of the time.
The answer to it is yes they are comfortable for a long flight if you’re seated in the row with two seats. Not sure on the middle seats that are four. They do recline but not as much. Think of it as the US domestic first class seat. If you have ever flown on those, that’s how they will be, but on a long haul flight. I will be reviewing them for 11 hour flight soon, so be on the lookout for that.
If you booked last minute, a one-way international flight ,etc. That is when you usually get the SSSS on your boarding pass. If you keep getting it on your boarding pass, you can write to DHS and request that they remove you from the list.
Thank you for the information. We were surprised to see that. We booked our flights one month before traveling. But thankfully I’m out of that trouble now.
I am glad it was resolved for you! Thank you for this video! We booked these seats with points so I am looking to see if I should have done business instead😂 thank you for setting my fears at ease!
I can suggest you get 'random' security because of your recent travel pattern. Uk to US France Switzerland etc all in a very short space of time while on pleasure not confirmed business. That would sound alarm bells.
Thank you for that feedback. I will keep that in mind on the next one I review. However, if you have flown on US Domestic First Class, it’s the same recline. That’s really how I can compare it to. It’s exactly the same seat with different name based on the route. If you look at minute 11:44, you can kinda see the other passenger seat reclined.
@ThePanzoAdventures it started before I even took my first international flight. Interestingly, I don't get it departing United States, only upon return. But will get it on domestic flights. I haven't flown in a few years but last month got it upon returning From Europe. It's a nuisance. At some point when they've never found anything you think they would remove me
How comfortable was it to sleep?? Is it easier to sleep in this seat vrs Economy?? Do you find it a more useful upgrade on a overnight vrs day/awake flight?
These seats are definitely comfortable. If you’ve flown on domestic first class seats, that’s exactly how they feel. As for the day vs night, I will say both. In the night flight, you’re comfortable and can sleep. In a day flight, you have the space and can enjoy all the meal service perks. Sleep is extra in the daytime flight.
I flew PE and Business on AA to Japan from DFW. Service and food sucks! If you go on ANA, Korean or JAL, the service is a lot better! How did I ended up on AA business? My United flight from Dallas to SFO got delayed so I miss my connection in SFO. United rebooked me on AA business direct from DFW to NRT!!!
Sorry to hear your experience with AA. I have flown with both United and AA business class to and from Japan and I must say they boss miss out when it comes to food. The experience is much better with Asian airlines than US based airlines. I haven’t tried Delta, but I’m going to assume the same.
@@ThePanzoAdventures I'm sorry you made that response. I didn't buy anything because, at that point, both classes were outrageously high and what you said you would do is exactly what they want you to do. Take an outrageous business class fare because the premium economy fare was even more outrageous. Me? I turned off my computer with bad thoughts about how stupid AA though I was and good feelings about myself escaping their obviously outrageous trap. PS Did I use the word outrageous outrageously enough for you?
Hey I had a question about the seats if you or anyone knows. I was wondering on the aisle seats if the armrest goes down at all, making it easier to get up to allow the middle person out. I see the armrests look fixed other than the aisle seats, I have a flight in a week and I'm sitting on the aisle so I'd love for them to be able to go down
Great video! Will be flying american prem economy next month for first time..... I'm excited! I am mexican but get confused for being middle eastern with my beard and I always win the "random security check" prize myself 😂 Thanks for posting!!
That will depend on where the route is originated from and the cost for each if they both operate the route. AA seats are more modern in comparison to BA. The service received on BA was better than AA. For seat comfortability, AA and for service BA.
You could have been chosen for additional screening for something as simple as changing an international flight close to the original date. Simple. You'll fall off after a few times.
I believe their premium economy seats are much cheaper than Delta's & even United !! So,that's attractive ! Also , their vegan/ vegetarian meals are very good they say ! So,that's always a plus to me as being vegetarian who loves vegan meals on air !! 😋 👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶✈️💞
Yes,I thought so ,too !! They used to be I think ! Or maybe when I googled ,they happened to be cheaper !? I googled their prices several times the other day & the past to see what routes to get to Argentina from L.A.,again . I'll need to go to somewhere like Texas ,or Atlanta,or even Chile 1st ,otherwise 14, 15 hr flight !! Lol. Then ,at those times the quotes on American airlines were much cheaper !! Lol I'll check them later ,again ,maybe a couple of months later to see ! Thank you so much for your video & reply !! 💜🥁🐉🎤🎶✈️💞

Thank you!! Was curious if window seats had direct aisle access and this has been the only place that answered my question. Appreciate the review!
Thank you for watching and the kind comment. Glad I was able to help at least one fellow traveler.
Excellent work, Liked & Subscribed

Thank you, very complete review
Thank you 🙏. Glad I was able to provide value.
Great Video. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. Would of liked to have seen how far back the seats recline.
Thanks for your positive feedback. Unfortunately it’s really hard recording the seat when it’s recline. But I will keep that in mind for the next one.
Nice it was great seeing you today playing basketball.
Looking at this route now and am trying to figure out if it's worth it. THanks for the review!
It’s worth it in comparison to the economy class.

Thanks a lot for the video! Just a question about the seats. Is there enough leg space for a 6 feet passenger?
Thank you! The space is plenty. You won’t have issues. I will suggest to book the bulkhead seats for a lot more legroom.

Yes, it's worth it!
