I will miss watching you Lexi. You are amazing and a very amazing golfer no doubt. The tour will miss you and all of your fans which you definitely got. Smile. Life goes on....I just retired and Im loving it. Neal
My favourite player. Not only a great golfer but a person of considerable substance, articulate, intelligent and beautiful as well. A winner in every way - you should be so proud of who you are and what you have become. The golf world loves you Lexi - please stay around the game. All the best for whatever the rest of life holds for you, you deserve the best😍

All the best Lexi, so sad to hear this news. You are my all-time favourite LPGA player. Will definitely miss you, but totally understand the decision. May the future be bright!!
Always presented herself looking a million dollars, clothing wise and body wise (muscle tone) shows the amount of work she did in the gym. A sponsors dream. I think at time, she battled her putter and showed marvellous restraint not to throw it into the nearest lake. She goes away a true entertainer and we are left the poorer with her retirement.
I doubt you will ever read this text message but - Lexi, you are a tremendous, quality person and an amazing golfer! I have always watched with pride and enjoyment on how you played and carried yourself - with your skill and the quality of your heart. It is very noticeable and highly esteemed. You will be missed.❤️❤️ P.S. That 4 stroke penalty you received was nothing short of a four letter word. Many of the rules of golf suck! You are a Winner in Lord's eyes!
I was at the US Jr. Open Lexi won at Bedminster because my wife’s cousin also was competing in it, missing the cut by one stroke 😢 She was amazing then.
I guess 2 factors are at play here, to which I totally agree : - women pro golfers with great achievements under their belt don’t have the equivalent of LIV for a less hectic life (regardless of prizes) - the passing of Grayson Murray certainly resonates more deeply with some than others, as of pro touring not being a lifetime job anyway and being extremely demanding and restrictive to your private life. When you don’t feel like the rewards make up for it any longer, and when you have a fulfilling life besides - or aspire for one, it gets hard. Whatever, I wish her the best in life.
It’s going to be sad not seeing you compete after this year Lexi. You need to do what makes you happy, whatever that looks like. You have made a difference in a lot of people’s life.
Way too young to walk away from Golf but if she’s emotionally not driven to “be the best” then she needs to pursue what brings her happiness. Just imagine, Loren Ochoa walked away as #1 in the world in women’s golf. I hope to see Lexi back on tour in the future, I wish her all the success & happiness.
Wow, that surprice me Lexi, u are a icon and one of the best player in the Lpga tuor and we gone a miss u when u stop here on Lpga, u are a great player and u are so good when u play, but everythings have a end, so i wish u al luck in the future :) i hope u start playing in the senior tour soon. Take care and be HAPPY.
Our son wants to make money playing golf, talk about a hard way to make a living. First, only around 200 per year make a living, second: it is all on your shoulders and what you did last week doesn’t matter at the tournament your at and then third out of a couple hundred only one wins per tournament. Pro baseball, basketball or football, you have a 50 percent chance of winning each game. You really have to handle loosing and keep going and that takes tons of courage
I think that with Lexi’s announcement, and with the recent tragedy involving Grayson Murray, it just reminds us that fame and fortune can’t guarantee happiness and fulfillment in this life. There is hardship and dysfunction involved in just about every walk of life. And when it becomes too much of a physical and emotional burden, it’s time to make a change, and it appears that Lexi has recognized that and is moving forward with making that needed change. I hope that she does have the adequate support structure in place to help her transition. I’m sure in whatever she decides to do, we haven’t heard the last of Lexi Thompson. I’ll miss her in the LPGA, but I wish her all the best in her new endeavors.
I think the decline in form coincides with the infamous chipping yips when coasting to a major championship. Anyone who plays golf knows what that can do to your mentality on the course, it affects everything, driving for fairways, 2nd shots to greens, where you know you have to hit it to avoid a dreaded chip. And all of this in front of fans and the TV, brutal, just so exposed. Best of luck in the future.
Good for you Lexi, you are allowed to stop working and enjoy life, It’s called retirement you need to look after yourself just like every one else. Only you know when it’s enough and I’m sure Lexi is proud of her career, she can now sleep in and do what ever she wants!
Firstly, she’s a net worth of $7M minimum so don’t feel too sorry for her. Secondly, as a former PGA golf professional I find this both laughable & sorta insulting.
An intimidating player in past years, but has not been at her best for some time now, primarily because her putting is awful. Had a good career though, all the best in retirement Lexi.
I loved watching you play. I pray to our Heavenly Father that you are blessed and have joy in the remainder of your lifetime. Draw close to Christ and he will draw close to you. You deserve to slow things down and let your mind focus on the Truth of life. Praying for you!
She should have gone to college where she and her game could mature before entering the pressure cooker of the LPGA. She burned out early without realizing her full potential, just like Michelle W.
Really? What "you" go through? Try working 5 days a week doing construction work in the hot Arizona sun, laying pavement on a highway for a career until you can retire at 62 1/2 when you get social security. Tough life getting a BMW rental car and staying in a 5 Star resorts and walking a golf course while someone carries your bags. Playing golf is so hard compared to serving in the military or working in the oil felids or being a cop or teacher who bring home enough money to hover above the poverty line. These people live in an alternative universe, no comprehension of how blessed they are.
It’s a lonely life being on the road. After the fans leave, you are alone in a hotel room. Money isn’t everything and can’t replace family. Good for her. I wish this young woman well.
So she gained fans because of the incident where she was finally penalized for gaining distance by marking and replacing her ball incorrectly? She would have gained me as a fan if she just would have admitted her mistake. But she never does. I remember her saying she didn't hit a bad shot after blowing a US Open lead at Olympic, shooting 41 on the back 9. She just never had the mental strength to deal with competition at the highest level.
Yup, you're right, let's hate her. That will teach her a lesson. Make a mistake, show weakness, and you get pounced on. That should convince her to stay in the game.
American girls are soft! Look at the leaderboards every week and you will be shocked to see one American flag next to anyones name on the leaderboards and no one softer than Lexi. There are no more Dottie Peppers or Morgan Pressels.
And that's based on your in depth knowledge of her practice routine and workout schedule? I hear that the GS Warriors tanked in the playoffs this year because Seth Curry was too busy doing Subway commercials and promoting his bourbon and other side projects to "practice his craft". Oh wait, that's what every pro athlete does.
She ruined her own career. A few years ago she hired a sports psychologist in an effort to learn to have more fun at gold. She basically lost her fire. You can have all the talent in the world but you have to have that "fire" and competitive nature. I just think she couldn't handle it.

@@tomscott4438She’s just taking up a spot from someone who actually loves to compete and doesn’t feel the need to rest on the laurels. Actual competitors don’t retire at age 29 lol.
Given she hasn't won in over 5 years and almost lost her card in 2023 and missed 5 cuts in her first 7 events of 2024 retiring seems like a very rational decision. Although given her focus on branding, promotion and marketing gimmicks I have no doubt her sports management group and business manager will milk this for all its worth. Prepare for comeback rumors and perhaps even a revisionist promotional documentary, similar to Michelle Wie's, that presents her failures on tour as a result of being a victim of any number of things. What is clear for both Lexi Thompson and Michelle Wie is that they were poorly advised and should have played longer in the amateur ranks and perhaps even collegiate golf in order to become mentally tough and emotionally strong enough to progress beyond their natural talent. Highlighted by her blowing a 5 stroke lead in the US Open, Lexi has shown an inability to perform on the weekend and as a result become a mediocre, middle of the pack player. Really not surprising she would react emotionally to her performance over the past 5 years.
