My 2010 MacBook Unibody 2.4 c2d is running an SSD and 16 gb of ram. I don’t even use it but I still keep it for nostalgic reasons. Best looking laptop of all time.
still using my late 2009 white unibody MacBook, in fact, i'm commenting this on it. it's pretty decent even today, running on Big Sur. i have an SSD installed (and you should probably install one too) and it makes a HUGE difference.
This was a great Mac. I had one that lasted for 13 years! Replaced it last year with the new MacBook Pro 14" M2Pro - a huge step up but the old MacBook certainly held its own :) Still works to this day! Replaced the hard drive (a Hitachi) with a SSD after 9 years and it put new life into it :)
@@cynonexus I'm very loyal to it - I even ended up making a living from it as I started a sport marketing business in 2013. I use it now as an iTunes Films back up just in case any favourite films purchased from iTunes ever mysteriously disappear (which being honest, doesn't really happy - Qudos to Apple for that!) Gotta say the new 14" MacBook Pro is perfect in every way - Apple really nailed this one except of course, that it's not as nice to replace parts on, if at all possible?
Had one from 2006 to 2009 I think? From Panther to Mountain Lion. Awesome machine. I switched tl Windows, then MBA, then Linux Mint, then Windows, then back to MBP thanks to Apple Silicon
I've upgraded a few 2009 and 2010 unibodys after upgrading the ram and from HD to SSD, it's like night and day and still can be used today. Best MacBooks ever made.
I bought one for $90 in perfect condition hinges intact and the bottom rubber isn’t discolored. Plastic isn’t super scratched either! Installed a 500gb ssd and a 16gb ram and partitioned Linux onto it.
great video again Bro. Im so curious on your thoughts on my vintage MINT 2006 16' Macbook pro with original everything. box paper linings. the remote control It works perfectly. Curious what it costs? Thinking of selling it Its the very first real unibody Macbook Pro ever
I am still using an early 2009 MBP with 8GB of RAM as a glorified music player at night, but it is surprisingly usable with an SSD. Don't discount these older machines for light duty. They may not hold up to 20 tabs open in Chrome, but they are hardly e-waste.
Honestly, 4GB of RAM is pretty usable with the right OS. My Chromebook isn't the fastest but it does work for general browsing, TH-cam and even Netflix. Perhaps you can get FydeOS on this Mac? Or something like DietPi or another Linux Distro made for lightweight computing?
@@cynonexus yeah, that’s why I’m suggesting a newer OS. You still get the performance of older OSs, but with security patches, a modern browser, better multimedia decoding, more apps available, etc.
@@cynonexus also, just because I haven’t said it yet, your channel os fantastic! Pleas include the cleaning montages when you can. They’re very relaxing and satisfying. I love all you do with old Macs
This macbook is sweet, just put 8gb ram ( it can be hold 16gb tbh ) but 8gb is enough, chunk some ssd's, use proper OS then you can use it as a media center, device for typing, browsing and kids learning. and if you want to put windows on it, you can put windows 10 pro, within the lastest updated easily
Ay man that thing a champ! That macbook was my first apple laptop back in 2011 and I edited a lot call of duty clips in after effects with that thing for 3-4 years, it was no speed machine but it did mange my work loads and with effects at 1080p/60fps. I did add 8gb of ram and 750gb 7200rpm at the time.
if you just replace the hard drive with an ssd and install a light linux distro like lubuntu or something that would make this pc a killer and ussuable for another 3 to 5 years at least
It can only support up to high sierra, any available updates are mostly security patches! OpenCore Legacy Patcher is the way to go if you want to the latest macOS!

@@cynonexus i thought i was crazy but you had 999 so you’re welcome 😅
did you get a $10 MacBook and a free charger or a $10 charger and a free MacBook 😂
Spoiler alert the charger didn’t work hahaha that’s probably why they got rid of it as non working MacBook

Such a cool piece of history, blend of early 2000s plastic fantastic and modern take of that era

big sur might be one of the best unofficial macos version for the white macbook!

Keep her going! many years ahead of usability still for the good old core 2 duo

(2:17) The progress bar indicates that it resumed from Safe Sleep, which Mac OS enters when in sleep mode and the battery level drops too low.
Previous owner probably thought the computer died when in reality it was just the charger
They look like an absolute gem. An easy contender for MacBook SE , if they want to do it in 2024.
100% but I also think the 12" MacBook would be the perfect SE
i'd buy something like that in a heartbeat

Nice! For sure they’ll definitely last for a good while even now
8:53 That sound iss sooo good on repeat 🔁
Never gets old 😏
I have one of these, 8gb RAM, and an SSD and it’s still a good rig for daily messing about on. I can even edit photos in Lightroom pretty well on it.
100% Lightroom? That’s surprising, I should try that

Yes, 4gb is perfect in sierra but it’s just unfortunate it’s a very old version of macOS

@@cynonexus yesh, but in my country, the ram is very expensive, 150$ for 16GB kit pc8500 >
You can use Maguires to polish the polish and clean the polycarbonate

I remember wanting one since there was a refurbished version from Amazon for $350 back in 2013, should’ve bought it instead of the hp
Video audio is very low.
Trying to figure why it’s doing that! Must be audio levels! Thanks for the feedback!
i have 2011 mac book pro i bought used about years ago
2011s are still great MacBook’s even today
is it supported by OCLP?
Absolutely! Got Big Sur (with 8gb ram) at the moment. But OLCP just released the latest update to be able to install Sonoma.
Yup but Sonoma is on the far more slower side of the spectrum
what year is this macbook
Late 2009 MacBook
That case looks in good shape. Mine is cracked on the back of the display.
No cracks but lots of micro scratches and blemishes still overall good shape!
I have one just like this. New 128 SSD and maxed out ram.
Still works well!

in the middle of doing a 1 week challenge with this computer and im starting to think linux might be the solution for longevity
How do you even get this for $10? When I look them up on ebay I see prices from atleast 100 euro's or more
Ending soon listings at late odd hours is the key to finding these!

I'd love to see someone swap in an M1 board in there somehow! My favourite design for the MacBook agreed
Retro modern combined into one
Fun video, but could you please raise the level on your mic next time?
This would be a perfect machine for Zorin OS
i added ssd jn mine
Open Core Legacy Patcher
Turning this MacBook into a ChromeOS Flex laptop would be more useful for today's use.
downloading as I'm typing this lol, these older macbooks are basically glorified chromebooks
You may check to see if ChromeOS Flex will support this machine. I don’t believe it is. Good luck.
Just bought 3 last week
Nice!
That must have been a stolen machine sold to you😂😂😂
I wouldn’t be surprised 😭
for only $10 pretty good that you can watch vids.
Next weeks video is a part 2 ;)
Linux pls ur da best utoober
I need to! 😂
10USD, ppl here would be selling for 200USD or more
If it was in really good condition plus with a box I know a couple of people who would buy it for $200 here in the states
If you ACTUALLY want to "use" it in 2024, time to switch to Linux.
That’s really the unfortunate reality!
