this is actually a deep, sad song. He's talking about his inner struggle with himself/his shadow
U people are missing the point. Yes in the middle is sad cus he's tlking abt his shadow but in the end I think he means whn u accept ur shadow that's nagative side of u like depression, fears, sadness, etc. Whn u accept tht said of u, u can be able to balance it and hlp u reach or achieve more.

Ohh for sure! Shadow brings me to tears! The lyrics are so deep and sad. Deep because the two Yoongi you see is actually Yoongi and his "Shadow", referring to the Jungian Psychology reference to the side of ourselves that we don't want to acknowledge but we must in order to truly be a whole person. That's why the second Yoongi says "You can't get rid of me, you can't escape, you know." Because we can't get rid of our "Shadow", we have to make peace and incorporate it in order to realize our "Self". 🤯
Sad because he's also talking about the shadow casted by the fame they have now. In his youth, he wanted fame, to be a rap star, to be rich, to be king, and all of that. But it's lonely this high up in the sky so close to the light. (Another reference in Jungian Psychology, that the brighter the light, the darker the shadow.) He's lonely, and he wants to just be himself. "I want to be me."

The interlude has more than one meaning . Like I said the fame and being on the spotlight, the sasaengs that don’t treat them like human, the dna camerawork , him running down the hall like the fake love video, him answering rms question of who am I? The video is way too intricate for one meaning please be more mindful
All members are so caring and loving. So far this is the only boy band group that I've seen with so much love and care to each other. I'm sure that they will all become a great husband and father some day. And that's one of the reason why I love these 7 babies so much.

I could be wrong but I feel like I’m right. But basically I’m thinking... this is called “ MAP OF THE SOUL PERSONA:7 ‘ Interlude and Rm’s song was “ MAP OF THE SOUL PERSONA. And if you go back and read the lyrics for both, they’re basically going back and forth with each other. Rm’s asking the questions while Yoongi answers them. In the Mama performance jungkook said “who I am now, who I will be in the future”. I believe the shadow looking at Yoongi is his past self. Back then he wanted it all ( rap star, rockstar, on top, king...) now he has it but no one told him how lonely it would be. Rm asked the question, “ PERSONA WHO THE HELL AM I” and Yoongi replied saying I am you, you are me....” so I believe it’s them going back and forth... idk for sure but that’s what I’m getting from this. Makes sense with the title and all. 🙃🤷🏽♀️
The point of comeback trailers/intros is not to necessarily give them a moment to show their rapper side, but it’s to introduce the overall theme of the album before it drops. They’ve done intros in the past in which a member sings/raps to just give the fans an idea of what the album would be like. It’s not confirmed, but it’s possible a vocal line member could be the one to give the next intro/comeback trailer

My theory is that the shadow people partly represents fans. When they are standing in front of the doors, it represents fans stalking them in their daily life. When they are chasing and grabbing Suga, it represents fans chasing and crowding BTS. When they have all their phones, it represents fans with constant cameras pointed at BTS capturing their every move. Suga portrays how it can be suffocating and terrifying. Half of the song is literally Suga with his fears and how he just wants to stay himself, but the other half is Suga’s shadow filled with greed. Many people on Twitter have been apologizing to Suga that he’s been feeling what he has for so long, but we are comforting each other that it will be ok
From now on they should be treated not by the singers and stars who are, but by the normal, ordinary and ordinary people who are actually.

Responding to the comment below about this being some persona and shadows conversation. Yes this is a continuation of Persona storyline but yall probably overthinking it. This song is about Suga's ego persona and maybe in this album each of them will talk about their own challenges with their persona, hence 7. This one is most likely specifically about Suga's constant struggle with his persona who wants it all. To be rich, a king, a rap star a rockstar. The part where he says don't let me shine, dont let me fly is suga's inner struggles with his persona and the burden that comes with fame and success which he has openly talked about in the past. The last part of the song is the manifestation of that persona saying he is a part of Suga that he can't break away from and should embrace.

The time stamps are for the actual MV not the reaction
I think the hooded figures could represent a couple of things:
In one way, I think they represent Suga’s shadow. As he rises higher and his persona shines, his shadows are accentuated 0:56. He literally raps “up high, high, and higher, higher” as his shadows fall behind at 1:22. I feel like the shadows (his true self) just desperately wants to be accepted as the same person as Suga. They are seen constantly chasing him. They bang at door to LET THEM IN or ACCEPT THEM at 0:58. The shadows run at him at 1:14, and once they get near him, they reach towards him, almost as if in hope, for salvation at 1:18. At 1:25 they grab ahold of him which Suga only sighs. To Suga (his persona), Yoongi (his real self/shadow) is almost an inconvenience. This reminds me of RM’s Persona intro in which he literally says “ the world isn’t interested in the clumsy side of me”. The world has no interest in their flaws/shadow so the Persona must repress them.
However I think they could be interpreted in another way:
At the same time I think they represent fans. The same scenes such as: 0:58, 1:14, 1:18, 1:25 can be seen in a whole new light if interpreted as fan behavior. From the way it is filmed, certain parts almost seem like a horror movie. The behavior is reminiscent of sasaengs and their obsessiveness. When the figures grab him it can also be seen as them holding him down. The fans that idolize them and put them up on a pedestal, put so much pressure on them. Suga raps “please don’t let me shine, don’t let me down, don’t let me fly, now I’m afraid” BTS has risen up so high that it is dehumanizing. Although BTS are pretty transparent, it’s unavoidable that fans only see the part of them that they portray on camera (their persona).
Look at 2:02, he is literally on a stage/pedestal surrounded by cameras. Wanna see something scary? Look closely at 2:47. For a split second it shows the figures but without their phones in their hands. It’s terrifying when you really think about it, hundreds of faceless people, holding their hands out at you, to record you. He’s on stage venting his fears and true thoughts, but he is met only with out-held hands and people watching him through a screen. Put yourself in that position. No matter where you go, or what you do, you’re only met with faceless people pointing their cameras at you.
At 2:18 he’s speaking as his shadow. “I’m you, you are me” “we are one body, sometimes we will clash” “you can’t break me off”. He’s pointing out that there is no point in repressing/denying his shadow since they are one despite the fact the his Persona and Shadow are opposites. No matter what he does, succeed or fail, his shadow will always be with him, he can’t escape it. But at 2:56 Suga/Yoongi is erased/disappears beneath the overwhelming crowd. His true self/shadow is hidden beneath the blinding lights surrounding his Persona.
“I just wanna be me”
Suga just wants to be himself. But his Fame accentuates and glorifies his Persona so much that his Shadow (Yoongi) is hidden completely.
There is so much more to this song and video, there are references everywhere to their earlier album, O!RUL82!

The grotesque looking red stuff is actually wax.
It is a reference to an art piece in which a large block of wax tries to fit through a door. The block is too large for the door and in the process of passing through it sort of “skins itself” of its layers to get through the door. This represent that in order to achieve their fame/goals they must skin themselves/leave a bit of themselves behind in order to do so.

Nah y’all are identifying Yoongi with Suga and Agust D. Those are his personas and are not who he is off the stage. And y’all even identified him with his Shadow. That entire second half was Yoongi’s shadow, not him. That aggressive rapping? That was his shadow. Yoongi was scared. Yoongi was the first part. Yoongi is soft, and gentle. He doesn’t raise his voice at people. He loves his members and loves belly rubs and holding hands.
Yoongi is NOT the amalgamation of all of his fears, anxieties, ambitions, and desires. Y’all should have used the lyrics. This song is not motivational nor is it inspirational. It’s dark. It’s psychological. It’s introspective. You are missing out on so much, please do your research on Jungian Psychology. Art like Interlude: Shadow deserves to be understood in its 4D entirety.

By turning on captions? Ok I don’t expect them to know all the Jungian Psychology stuff right off that bat, but it was really frustrating that they didn’t turn on captions and just thought he was flexing and rapping like Mic Drop (which Shadow is basically saying that those ambitions have turned dark), when in reality he’s telling us that he’s scared and then we see his shadow literally attacking him. Art like this deserves to be understood.

Yall complain when people spend too much time reading the lyrics and not focusing on the video, but when they focus on the video you complain again. they are still kinda new to this so instead of saying how the reaction is bad because they didnt read the lyrics, kindly say that the cc is in the vid, because they dont have to be doing this reaction. they have adult lives and kids and they still take time everyday to do this for us.
