    Excellent job, Sheriff Judd and PCSO. Unfortunately, there are many dishonest, criminal, scumbags in the towing industry, just like this guy and his wife. So nice to finally see them held accountable for their shady, dishonest, criminal actions. The only sad part of this story is, someone had to die, before the tow operators were finally brought to justice.

    My uncle owned a wrecker service and I ran it for a couple of years. We ended up having a big falling out because he was trying to make me add charges to bills that shouldn’t be added. When he was running everything his self I would see him tow vehicles that belonged to upper class people and he wouldn’t charge them anything. Most of the time it would be people that he could possibly benefit from later on in some way. Then I would see poor people coming to get their vehicles and being over charged for it. I never seen him cut anybody a break that actually needed it. I seen people be 20 dollars short on their bill and end up losing their car over it because the bill would go up more every day it was there. After our falling out I took over another wrecker service and I pressed the issue with our local police departments and highway patrol until change was made. They made set prices on how much every wrecker service could charge. Wrecks are the only thing that don’t have set rates now. 99% of the time you are dealing with insurance companies instead of the owners though.

    The towing business attracts some very shady customers, some years ago in the harbor at Gilson park in Wilmette Illinois a Coast Guardsman from the adjoining Coast Guard station was taking a walk early one morning, when he observed a naked male juvenile on deck of a cabin cruiser berthed nearby, he went into the station and notified his officer of his observation and that said juvenile had been acting in a suspicious manner, the officer got another guardsman, and the three, using the Coast Guards authority to board any vessel at any time to perform maritime inspections, boarded the cruiser, where they found the subject juvenile in bed with an equally naked adult male engaged in an intimate act they immediately arrested the man who turned out to be the owner of a local towing company, that just happened to have the Wilmette Police Department's towing contract! He was subsequently charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, ( among many other charges) and sentenced to 30 years, his company was put out of business.

    Great presentation, Sheriff Judd! 30 years ago, NYPD police in Queens, NYC put in a new policy that any cops on patrol who spotted a tow truck with a vehicle in tow were to stop that tow truck and check the paper work. Way too many cars were being stolen here then and the police brass thought that criminals were using tow trucks to steal cars. After the new tow truck policy went into effect, AFAIK, car thefts went down. Then the thieves shifted to stealing car air bags (mine among them).

    All the yard owner had to do was to extend the courtesy of allowing the car owner to drive over to the dead battery vehicle and allow it to be jump started. Or... is it because this is Florida and nobody has been trained the skill of jump starting a vehicle. Also, the park owner is not blameless. It should have been written into the contract that tows are not allowed unless the owner calls them in. Truly derelict vehicles would be on site for days before attracting attention. And how are overnight visitors accommodated?

    if there wasn't a murder the tow and park would happily be doing business today. So the all the previous complaints about them were ignored.

      I find it hard to believe they didn't get a call the night they were taking the cars, none of those 19 people called about an unmarked truck illegally taking their cars in the middle of the night?

    • @jelowry7490
      @jelowry7490 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@monicabolden8663 they did call, the sheriff ignored them because, you know the tow companies and sheriff dept have a working relationship that they feed off each other. They were forced to act because of the murder.
