    Thanks for the thorough review. I think the MS 162 is going to be a huge miss for Stihl. Heavier, less power, crappy bar. They're going to regret launching that one. I think your graphic at 6:44 is wrong. The 180 only has 2.0 bhp, if I'm not mistaken. If it's truly a 2.8 bhp saw, then I'm running out and buying 2!
    It's really a shame that they bloat these up with emissions crap for a homeowner saw that will see 3 tank-fulls of gas per year.
    The Stihlusa website, as of end-of-Feb, shows the 172 C-E with metal dogs (bumper spikes). Clearly had plastic only on yours, though. I wonder if the website shows an earlier prototype or if your saw is an earlier build.
    BTW, you're one of the only Stihl dealers I've seen that doesn't know how to say Stihl ... might want to consider learning the right way. ;)

    I bought a new 182 C back in January and I love the saw but it leaks bar oil like crazy. Going to have to fix that issue but it runs great and starts easy every time.

    so 162 is 15% heavier saw with 7% less power. so that's a 20+ percent worse saw that comes with a bar without a sprocket. and one less case cover nut. that's some "improvements". germans are not what they used to be.

    Great breakdown on the new Stihl chainsaws! The MS 162, 172, and 182 models seem like an interesting evolution from the MS 180. I appreciate how you highlighted the changes in weight, cutting performance, and ease of maintenance. For anyone who works in the field regularly, these updates could make a big difference. Do you think these newer models will hold up to the durability and legacy of the MS 180?

      I don't know about 10 years in the future, but we've sold a number of them and haven't had any in for repairs yet. I do like the fact that they're higher displacement than the saws they replace. It seems to make a bif difference

    On the 182 C the chain sits wrong on the motor sprocket (take a look at min 6:38). If a novice owner buys it it'll have a great time ruining his new saw. I just bought my first chainsaw and documented the hell out of me before even starting it (haven't started it yet 😄, an MS 251 but in Europe there might be differences in similarly named models that US has).
    Also on the 182 C the bar does have a sprocket on the tip and has 4 bolts compared to the one on the 162 with 3 bolts on the tip and no sprocket, same Light 04 bar. Weird stuff!
    Good luck sir and salutations from Romania!

    What is a good replacement bar and chain for the MS 172 c, my son lost the bar and chain in the woods. 😡 I tried to listen to the part number you read but had a hard time hearing it clearly.

      @HomesteadBandwagon thank you, much appreciated! I was having a hard time finding it on Stihl website. It looks like the one that comes on it is better than the light series that doesn't have a sprocket

      Echo cs310 comes in 14in bar and has less power the stihl 172 has slightly more power and 16in bar. That echo model has been around a long time it’s underpowered but reliable. I would buy the echo cs3510 instead of either of those options. It’s 34ccs and 8 pounds great saw comes with 16in bar. I’m not a fan of stihls new homeowner saws so I’ll only be purchasing professional stihl chainsaws and echo homeowner saws from now on.

    The 171 made the switch smaller so the top cover could be removed without resetting the switch position. I do wish a 171 had been shown instead of a 180 or in addition to, as it was a middle step between these generations. Flippy caps, larger engine, chain adjuster conveniently placed and good anti vibe- Ive had a pile of 170s and 180s, they got it right when they designed the 171. My only complaint is it takes a minute to warm up.

  • @jeromebecigneul2911

    They have light bars but weight what appears to be 1 lb heavier. Did they change the case material? I have a 251 C-BE from 3 yrs ago. The so called 18" bar is really a 16" bar which sucks. I also notice that they seem to have longer bars.

    • @HomesteadBandwagon
      @HomesteadBandwagon  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think the engine they are using weighs a bit more. It's got a larger displacement, and lower emissions, so there's something going on there for sure. Chainsaw bars use kinda fuzzy math, in my opinion. A lot of Stihl bars are measuring more from the end of the sprocket on the saw to the tip of the bar than just the bar length.

  • @enricami2494
    @enricami2494 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    2 lbs heavier of emission control and plastic on average. I'll stick to the ms180 at 8.6# powerhead for light weight and simple reliability

      @HomesteadBandwagon  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wouldn't use a 194t on a regular basis. It's designed for tree climbers, so it's really not great for regular use. I'd get a MS250. It's a very solid saw

    Why on earth would anyone buy a 30cc class chainsaw that weights the same as the 50cc class chainsaws that you can do 10 times the work and use way more bar length options ? I like my 180 because it was an 8lb chainsaw if I want to haul around a 10lb chainsaw I have my 50cc class chainsaw. The entire point of a smaller cc chainsaw was the weight reduction it offered with the trade off being a wimpier chainsaw so again having a 30cc 10lb chainsaw is pointless when you can just get a 50cc class chainsaw for the same weight

      @DirectoutdoorsTV 025 was way better than a MS170. If you want a good farm saw just buy a MS261. Cry once and be done. If you don't have 700.00 dollars buy a MS180 without tool less bar and without easy start. I bought one for 199.00
