The 182 is heavier because. Stihl had to install their 2-MIX system to keep supplying to the European and other markets because of their over compliant emission laws, meanwhile the Chinese are bumping out old school technology chainsaws, and exporting them to the same market that Stihl is trying to compete in.
A spring, a slightly better filter and a couple of twist caps dont add up to 1.5 lbs or a 20% increase in weight with no virtually no power gain. Stihl probably rounded it up to get that 0.1 hp gain. Very sad to see Stihl has gone this direction. I suspect its to make the electric stuff look more appealing and its not working. The day Stihl goes all electric is the day we part ways
Stihl is still fully invested in gas products. They continue to introduce new gas products. Battery is growing and Stihl can’t ignore this emerging market.
I don’t know many batteries lasting 20 years so that’s why I love the gas power
With ya
The Ms 182 is a bad ass saw for it's size I love that damn thing
Glad you dig it.
Why do I feel like my Ms180 has return to run?
Click the trigger and it pops off the start position to run. But it doesn’t return from stop to run.
@@carlsmowerandsaw I guess ive never noticed having to move it to start it, just muscle memory i guees.
@@harrisoncooper9180 and that ain’t a bad thing

Emissions are definitely playing into many changes

I have no problems with my stihl ms180. I've had it for 4 years now.
The 180 is a solid choice
MS180 is no longer made. So unless a store has old stock, people will be buying the 182.
You are right. The 170 and 180 are walking away.
I hate those stupid flip caps
Would you believe it if I told you we had more problems with the standard caps?
@@carlsmowerandsaw yes, and you'll be making it up because stihl just had a big recall.
@ what is this recall? There was one about 12 years ago.
@@carlsmowerandsaw yes, that's true. There were 2.3 million but there are still tens of thousands out there that I've never been modified.
